Do you get the Sunday scaries? What an odd phenomenon

I used to get it all the time and it definitely happens to me less now that I am in a job I love, but I get a really strange feeling on Sunday nights almost like dread of the end of the weekend. It’s hard to put it into words exactly, maybe somebody else who gets it can do a better job than I have. Sets in around 3/4pm if I’m going to get it and sometimes find myself unable to fall asleep no matter how tired when I don’t have that problem any other night of the week.

It’s absolutely fine by Monday morning, in fact I don’t even mind Mondays quite enjoy getting back to being busy. Weird

YABU - I don’t experience this

YANBU - I do, fairly regularly and ikwym

By the end of my graduate job I was in tears most Sundays, dreading going in on Monday. That's how I knew it was time to call it a day.

Now I'm in a better industry in a job that I enjoy a bit more (although wouldn't call it a dream job or anything) and I still get a bit of Sunday night anxiety. Usually things flying around in my head that I need to not forget to do in the week. It helps me to write those down so I have a list for Monday morning.

BluetheBear · 02/04/2023 20:03

I dont have this but I have in the past and
I don't think it's unusual to dread the start of the working week.

Warmcandle · 02/04/2023 20:06

Yes, from about 3pm it all becomes about ironing uniform, packed lunches, cooking a roast dinner, sorting out ironed clothes, and then thinking about the work I’ve got on. Again tho, actually don’t mind Mondays themselves 🙈

ilovelamp2 · 02/04/2023 20:07

Definitely. We call it the 'Sundreads' in our house! I find going out for the day rather than it becoming a day for getting ready for the week usually helps - we call it a 'Sundenial' trip. I think we are a bit weird for making up special words for it! You're definitely not BU!

onepieceoflollipop · 02/04/2023 20:07

This is one of the many reasons I like working shifts…
all days are much the same

EggbertHeartsTina · 02/04/2023 20:07

Yeah and the Antiques Roadshow theme tune brings it on! Definitely a hangover from when I was a child.

sashagabadon · 02/04/2023 20:10

I don’t get it as I like my job but I think it goes back to school days. Sunday night anticipation, have you done homework etc.
same as Friday afternoon giddiness looking forward to weekend and I still get a slight sadness at late august as it’s back to school nervousness for September ( new year, new teachers etc) even though I left school 35 plus years ago 😁

Titsywoo · 02/04/2023 20:10

I don't but I enjoy my job. I think DH probably does as he hates his and it is very stressful.

LadyLolaRuben · 02/04/2023 20:11

Yes every Sunday from around 5pm. Was off work last week so makes this Sunday even worse

Haha! Yes! It brings the memories of anxiety filled sunday evenings flooding back. I have to switch channels quick if i ever hear it now

Yes! I hate hearing it even though I don't work Mondays any more so no reason to dread them!

kitnkaboodle · 02/04/2023 20:14

Listening to the Top 40 in the bath then Last of the Summer Wine (I'm obviously older than most of you!!) Horrible feeling that there was some homework I'd forgotten to do

Bandanadrama · 02/04/2023 20:16

I can't listen to the Antiques Roadshow theme tune for this reason.

Justalittlebitduckling · 02/04/2023 20:18

I used to when I was a teacher.

BrassicaBabe · 02/04/2023 20:19

Definitely me! And I don't hate my job. I sadly enjoy Sunday bbc tv of countryfile and antiques roadshow. Im more likely to drink wine on a Sunday night than a Friday night.

If there's something I'm not looking forward to though I'm quite likely to stay up very late on a Sunday as if putting off the start of Monday.

I have also had a past job I HATED and the Sunday feeling used to kick in about Saturday lunchtime. It was horrible. If anyone hates their job like that you have my absolute sympathy 💕💕

lipstickwoman · 02/04/2023 20:22

Oh yes. From the Waltons theme tune as a child to the Antiques Roadshow now

maddiemookins16mum · 02/04/2023 20:22

I really like my job and my colleagues. But I get the Sunday night jitters every week. I never sleep well either. Annoyingly by 0910 tomorrow, I’ll be right as rain.

amillionrosepetals · 02/04/2023 20:22

I used to feel that way when I was working. I just didn't like having to go to work. It usually set in at about 6pm, that's when it stopped being the weekend and became just another night before a working day. Now that I'm retired I find I spend Sunday evening thinking thank goodness I don't have to go to work anymore.

This

Furrydogmum · 02/04/2023 20:26

All the teachers and education workers I know do..

M0nica44 · 02/04/2023 20:26

I get this at the end of the summer, when you start to feel the v slight nip in the air, definitely a 'back to school feeling'! I am 46!! And in my job i don't get a long summer break, i didn't even hate school, still get a very mild feeling of dread!

Anonymouseposter · 02/04/2023 20:31

I'm retired and my children are grown up but the theme tune to the Antiques Roadshow still makes me think I should be laying out school uniforms and thinking about work. Very guilt inducing, makes me uneasy!

JaneJeffer · 02/04/2023 20:31

This is known as The Glenroes to Irish people of a certain age.

Neena86 · 02/04/2023 20:33

Not really because I work every other full weekend. It's a bit of a rush getting the kids stuff ready for Monday on my weekends in but I don't dread it or anything.

Aaargh! That’s what I was coming on to say, that and/or Songs of Praise. I think it’s a hangover from school age when you knew your weekend was over and school was starting again.
