That Absolutely Amazing Woman

I've just read about the woman who gave evidence against the killer of Olivia Pratt-Korbel. What a fucking brave and phenomenal woman. She will have to go into witness protection and leave her whole life behind but she knew it was the right thing to do. And she gave the defence lawyer a mouthful as well by the sounds of it.
I could actually cry thinking about her.

Wow I've just read an article about her. She really did give his barrister what for. I hope she has a long and happy life under a new identity. 😭😥

Please would you mind sharing the link?

There's a few articles but this is the one I read.

That statement sends shudders of revulsion through me.

I also come from Liverpool. I’m very fond of the place but I haven’t lived there for years and I’d never go back now. My family were old Liverpool - decent, hard working people who valued education and respected the police. @HotSince82 who is “we” and why do you feel the need to show off about this? Aren’t things bad enough without attitudes like that?

I was referring to the statement made by Olivia's mother outside the court yesterday.
She was thanking the woman named in the OP for testifying even though the rule in Liverpool is usually 'you don't grass, no matter what'

I have explained this numerous times throughout this thread, as I have also explained that I do not wish to end legal representation for criminals.

But I suppose that there are those who purposefully misconstrue assertions in an effort to have an excuse to project and air frustrations with their lives which likely have bugger all to do with the subject matter of the thread.

Crack on

Quite frankly, everything that’s wrong with Liverpool is summed up in that one sentence, ‘we don’t like people who grass on their neighbours’.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Jesus.

So youve got a problem with the prosecuting barrister as well?

Excellent question. And I’m going to go out on a limb, having only read the thread up to this post on p1, and hazard a guess that HotSince82 hasn’t answered it yet. Not properly anyway.

I feel the same OP.

I am from Liverpool and she has the city apart from the scum absolutely behind her.

We don't like people who grass on their neighbours, granted. We absolutely support those who testify against drug dealing murderous bellends.

Shame on his barrister. There is no amount of money in the world that would incite a person with a modicum of moral integrity to defend such heinous actions.

Absolutely commending that woman's courage this evening. Bravo if you are reading this 👏

Not sure if anyone else has answered this but barristers have something called the Cab Rank Rule. It means that a barrister has no choice as to who to represent. If someone needs representation and there will be proper remuneration they HAVE to represent and do so to the best of their ability.

Innocent people often face cases that look hopeless at the start. We have courts to determine guilt and innocence. It's not for some barrister to get above themselves and decide they know better.

This point has been made once or twice...

malificent7 · 05/04/2023 07:57

I lived in Liverpool for 4 years and love it but this " you din't grass no matter what" is unhealthy and is probably borne out of fear of retribution.

I'd like to think more people grass is it means people can live without fear. Not that simple sadly.

AllOfThemWitches · 05/04/2023 08:30

I think people are underestimating how stressful it probably is to be a witness in cases like this. Yeah, the woman made questionable decisions, many people do. It doesn't mean they are inherently 'bad' people.

When my ex and child's dad was accused of serious sexual assault, I refused to give a statement even though I could have helped because I was so scared of the potential consequences. Luckily he was convicted but I say fair play to this woman, the experience must have been something of an ordeal.

If they have I’ve missed it…

Gingernan · 05/04/2023 11:07

Of course he had to have representation! Such naive comments! Would you want an innocent person locked up? Seriously silly.

Owl55 · 05/04/2023 12:41

I think the girlfriend who gave evidence was incredibly brave , her life will never be the same , she will be pursued by these criminals for the rest of her life, if she has children they will be uprooted from their home. His partner must have known what sourced their wealthy lifestyle and various luxury cars / homes and holidays and her beauty salons. I hope the police can remove all these financial assets from her too . People live in fear of these criminals and and Justice has been served.

JoyDivisionOvenGlovesx · 05/04/2023 17:32

I recently re-watched Little Boy Blue, about the murder of Rhys Jones. The fear, intimidation and bravery of those who testified were well depicted in my view. I really, REALLY don’t want to trivialise Olivia’s tragic murder, but I can see a similar dramatisation in future.

I know a fair few criminal barristers, and yes there are indeed some ‘win at all costs’ egos. But absolutely overwhelmingly, they do their job to see justice done. If defence counsel see their client convicted - if justice is done, they’ve still ‘won’.

Betse84 · 08/04/2023 19:46

Love how this has turned into attacking someone for their opinions instead of, you know, looking at someone’s selfless actions to ensure justice was brought. Nice one mumsnetters.

Its a tragic tragic story, and this lady has done the hardest but most right thing in the world. Let’s not lose sight of that

I'd find that very hard, to start again with NO social connections at all. And my friends are thin on the ground but still! You cannot build an old friend overnight. She is very brave.
