School ski trip cancelled due to chaos in Dover - fuck the tories

1000 replies

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 10:57

My 15 year old son has just spent 17 hours in a coach in dover waiting to go on a much anticipated ski trip. It’s cost us over £1500 over a year and we hoped, given everything our kids lost over covid, it would be a positive experience.

The school just notified us to say that now- due to health and safety, drivers hours etc- the trip needs to be cancelled and the kids are on their way back from dover.

Absolutely FUCK the lying Tory cunts - they ruin everything. They try and blame the French yet all of this lies at their door. Fuck them all for ruining 100 kids trip (and probably thousands more) and ruining everything they touch with their stinking corrupt lies and their lies about brexit.

My son was in tears.

I feel like ThunderDad is an incarnation of chatGPT that's been trained on pro-brexit twitter or something.

There's a risk Jeremy Corbyn is going to get in a put conservative voters in concentration camps?

The BBC has been taken over by communists? (No mention of the fact the chairman is chums with Boris)

Very very strange

Don't forget, the Tory PM urged everyone to vote against leaving Europe for the referendum.

Yes, but he was the idiot that decided to hold a referendum in the first place. I absolutely lay the blame at his feet.

Because that would make it much more expensive. Remember, the money is not just paying for travel, it's paying for staff and staff fares and accommodation, the children's accommodation and all their food, ski passes and various other expenses as well.

Once again.

My dd has gone for almost £200 less. 6 nights skiing. By plane.

Another poster has stated her ds is in Italy for approx the 1.5k figure. He also flew.

AMealASucculentChineseMeal · 02/04/2023 18:02

@Scyla it's not tho, is it? It's just one thread on one website; it's not the census 🤷🏻‍♀️

@ThunderDad

If we deported everyone who is here illegally / pretending to be a refugee then there would be homes for everyone, perhaps even at a price that normal people can afford

Are you aware that there are 3/4 a million 2nd homes in the UK?
There are additional 1/4 million empty homes in the UK?

There are more than enough homes in the UK for everyone who lives here and refugees who have come here in recent years, the problem is with their distribution.

L1ttledrummergirl · 02/04/2023 18:03

I think @ThunderDad is practicing their satire. Surely nobody is that stupid they actually believe this government and the rhetoric they are spewing?

You may be right. I was thinking they were perhaps some kind of parody kipper.

Sunak appeared to be coming around to the idea that Brexit is bullshit based on his comments saying Northern Ireland had the best deal with the best of both worlds (which is what we used to have).

Can’t fucking stand this current iteration of Tory but Sunak would be playing an absolute blinder of a pincer movement if he declared a reversal of Brexit before the next election.

Starmer’s become a born again Brexiteer beholden to red wall focus groups and appears happy to drive the country off a cliff based on their deluded say so. Sunak would keep the blue wall and any red wallers who have put 2 and 2 together and woken up from the Brexit fantasy.

That would be amazing. But not possible to unilaterally reverse it.

DowningStreetParty · 02/04/2023 18:04

I’m so sorry OP. Hopefully by the time your son is grown up we can go back in to the European Union. We need to get rid of this mad Tory Brexit idea which was all about pleasing extremist factions in the Tory party and has made the country poorer. Brexit hasn’t worked.

That wouldn't fit his narrative either.

I just asked chatgpt to write me a pro brexit Internet post but it's not allowed apparently 😂
I did get this one however:
"Brexit unicorns: the magical creatures promised by some politicians who claimed the UK could leave the EU and have all the benefits without any of the costs. Unfortunately, these unicorns turned out to be nothing more than fantasy and the UK is still grappling with the fallout of leaving the EU." #Brexit #Unicorns #FantasyVsReality

ChatGPT has been taken over by the commies :O

I'm so sorry op. Hopefully by the time your son has grown up French border staff will have got their arses in gear, perhaps their bosses could offer them performance related pay as an incentive to giddy up?

I mean seriously, you'd think they were the only border control between us and the EU or infact every other country. How does everywhere else manage but the French Dover go slows just cannot keep up.

Whatafustercluck · 02/04/2023 18:12

The EU won't have us back any time soon anyway, and if they did, it wouldn't be on such favourable terms as we had before. Starmer didn't do this to this country and his views on Brexit are pretty irrelevant right now. Save all the vitriol for the Tories. They're the ones that led us down this path. They're the ones who have been in power for 13 years.

You think they should just check and stamp quicker?

And you are not aware of the volume of traffic between Dover and Calais like a certain Dominic Raab?

AMealASucculentChineseMeal · 02/04/2023 18:14

If only Boris had been allowed to get Brexit done properly and was still Prime Minister then we would not be having this chaos. He would know what to say to the French to sort it out.
The trouble is we have had too much of Remoners like But Jeremy Corbyn and Rishi Sunak interferring and making a mess of things.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 yeah, right, whatever!

Yes not sure what chop chop is in French. They maybe need a refresher on time management/ efficiency. Every other other port or airport seems to cope.

@Janiie do you like me wonder if the problem is that the French border staff had to stop to drink alcohol and have cake as an essential part of their daily work routines?
Surely no one needs essential alcohol at work?

This thread may now have reached peak batshittery.

Do tell, how exactly do you contend that Blair engineered every utterly stupid decision the Tories have taken about Europe since 2015?

I think that poster may be referring to the free movement of people. Tony Blair could have restricted the numbers of people coming to live in the uk from the newly signed up member states. He didn’t think many Eastern Europeans would take advantage of free movement and didn’t realise how attractive the uk would be so decided against it. In the event, he was wrong and many British people weren’t happy as they saw these people as a threat, taking their jobs and changing the demographics of their towns. At least, this is the justification at the time from the Brexit supporting side of family.

Rhondaa · 02/04/2023 18:19

French stampers could maybe pop to Milan and have a staff training exercise on quicker stamping techniques and appropriate staff allocation to manage surges? Those flying there for skiing don't seem to have fo queue for 3 days.

thegrain · 02/04/2023 18:15

Well everyone who voted to take Back Control of our borders presumably agrees with you. In fact why don't we just ban Channel crossing entirely, that would show the French.
