School ski trip cancelled due to chaos in Dover - fuck the tories

1000 replies

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 10:57

My 15 year old son has just spent 17 hours in a coach in dover waiting to go on a much anticipated ski trip. It’s cost us over £1500 over a year and we hoped, given everything our kids lost over covid, it would be a positive experience.

The school just notified us to say that now- due to health and safety, drivers hours etc- the trip needs to be cancelled and the kids are on their way back from dover.

Absolutely FUCK the lying Tory cunts - they ruin everything. They try and blame the French yet all of this lies at their door. Fuck them all for ruining 100 kids trip (and probably thousands more) and ruining everything they touch with their stinking corrupt lies and their lies about brexit.

My son was in tears.

Of course they are! They are a xenophobic rag!

Tomorrow the headlines will be "The Frogs ruined our Easter"
Or similar

But then if it is due to France? Or do we need to be more diplomatic in these waters

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 02/04/2023 14:30

TheSnootiestFox · 02/04/2023 14:11

No, we'd have just carried on with the shitshow of uncontrolled immigration that caused half the Nation to demand Brexit in the first place 🙄 The Tories may have some serious questions to answer but that little issue is Blair's and Brown's alone.

I've got a son (not the one with the fractured foot as per my post fortunately 🤣 ) on a ski trip right now OP so solidarity, he must be devastated, but our lot flew as we're in the North. The country is absolutely going to Hell in a handcart currently.

Net migration has increased since Brexit, hasn't it? Meanwhile, we have massive labour shortages that are impacting on our productivity, so losing free movement hasn't exactly been a benefit.

It's the Daily Mail SAYING it is France's fault because they love Brexit, they won't hear a word against brexit

Hawkins003 · 02/04/2023 14:28

That would be a good buffer, although why was air travel not considered?

I made the same comment upthread about air travel. As for a buffer, that would be prohibitively expensive. As is, it’s cost op more for the same trip as my dd did by plane.

Waydown · 02/04/2023 14:32

LeggyLinda · 02/04/2023 14:25

As much as I’d love to blame the Tories for everything, this is the fault of brexit voters.
Yes, the conservatives have handled brexit poorly, but there isn’t a plus point or good way of leaving EU.

That's absolutely nonsense. Most of the current Tory leadership were Brexiteers and those who weren't ran a shockingly poor campaign. The leave campaign was full of actual lies and no one sucessfully discredited them.

pompomdaisy · 02/04/2023 14:32

God I would be gutted! Don't blame you for blaming on the Tories. They are scumbags.

jgw1 · 02/04/2023 14:34

Waydown · 02/04/2023 14:23

Surely no one still believes that Brexit was ever going to reduce immigration?

If only Boris had been allowed to get Brexit done properly and was still Prime Minister then we would not be having this chaos. He would know what to say to the French to sort it out.
The trouble is we have had too much of Remoners like But Jeremy Corbyn and Rishi Sunak interferring and making a mess of things.

@TomatoFrog i live in Dover and this hardly ever happened before brexit. But you just carry on voting for these idiots like a self harming self flaggelating lemming…

Villssev · 02/04/2023 14:34

This is just getting you angrier Op

You will be like a coiled spring when your poor son gets back

hide the thread, get off the Internet, and start planning his perfect dinner, run a bath in and think of some great stuff he can do next week

Back door Boris as the unofficial ambassador in these times?

They may not have the titles, but I presume they can still.pull strings

torquewench · 02/04/2023 14:35

Somewhat ironic that it's an EU regulation (561/2006) which limits the coach driver's "driver hours, etc." though, eh?

Erm who else's fault could it possibly be??

jgw1 · 02/04/2023 14:36

ATerrorofLeftovers · 02/04/2023 14:24

Maybe TheSnootiestFox stopped following the news the second Brexit happened? Not sure what else could account for ignorance of the level of immigration that’s still going on now….

If you are referring to migration across the English Channel, that is because the French are consistently refusing to take control of our border. Why are they so keen on letting so many people cross the Channel?

Naunet · 02/04/2023 14:37

Rosula · 02/04/2023 14:24

Did they? 63.1% did not vote Conservative in the 2015 election.

So they were forced at gunpoint to vote for Brexit?! Do we want a democracy or not?

I'm far from ignorant, thank you. And I thought that everyone was bright enough to comprehend that the vote for Brexit was a reaction to the amount of immigration in the Labour controlled years? We're all literally too British to riot in the streets a la France, so the only way people could express their displeasure was in the polling booth. It's not a whole lot better now because every time a strategy is put in place, it gets shot down by political point scorers or dogooders and again democracy rules. We don't need 2% of the young single males of Albania in the UK but God forbid anyone deny their right to migrate here!

Livinginanotherworld · 02/04/2023 14:37

And if you voted for Brexit….go on, hands up..this is what you wished for. It absolutely sucks. The gift that keeps on giving.
Op, so sorry for your son and the other school parties in the same situation, it’s so shit !

Drfosters · 02/04/2023 13:59

we are genuinely curious as to what the issue was. We went on Eurostar a few weeks ago and the checks took exactly the same amount of time as they did before. Took less than a minute at both the Uk and French side for 4 people. The extra stamp time took about 1 second.

Exactly my point! It just shows to me that the problems are down to the lack of staff at Dover French border control and the slow speed they work at. How come border control at other places can process people quicker? The checks required are the same. I’ve had experience of our family’s passports being processed within a couple of minutes by other EU countries’ border control. The same process took over 10 minutes at French Border Control on the UK side. Why?

Allfizzandfun · 02/04/2023 14:38

@acrimoniousone oh yes, I completely agree. My post was badly worded - it’s a whole shitshow.

This is precisely why we're in this situation

Because people don't blame them!

The incompetentence, hypocriticacy, cronyism isn't even hidden anymore and they get away with it time and time again.

Eqs · 02/04/2023 14:39

Meh, you can’t blame ALL the Tories, just the Brexiteers and those who voted Leave. But yes, those of you who voted out this is pretty much your fault. No sure they care though sadly.

Tophy124 · 02/04/2023 14:39

Tory party are scum. They have done nothing but destroy destroy destroy and make life SO much harder for everyone except their rich friends. So yeah we CAN and should blame stuff on this despicable government.

Rosula · 02/04/2023 14:41

JudgeJ · 02/04/2023 13:38

The French? You do realise that the French have used their position regarding travel from the UK since time immemorial, air traffic control, the ports etc, irrespective of governments but as that doesn't match your bile.........

And yet we all remember the days before Brexit when we were waved through passport control because Freedom of Movement.

But don't let the facts get in the way of your bile.

So you voted leave to stop immigration?
