To relate to pets better based on age?

Is this really weird? That I enjoy the company of older pets and it's really nothing to do with their behaviour being different?

Like, if I know the background of a cat or dog who has had some long life, I just seem to enjoy its company and relate to it more? Kinda like I'm around someone my own age? Grin

But if I'm with a puppy or kitten, I feel I'm literally in the presence of a child.

Do I just sound completely mad?

Well, with a puppy or kitten you are in the presence of a child, so it doesn’t sound mad to me!

No, I really enjoyed the last few years with our elder dog who died aged 14 because he was calm and settled.

We got him as a rescue so we missed the puppy stage, which I know would be hard work but also very cute. I keep finding myself drawn to older dogs on rescue pages too now (even though the end is heartbreaking).
