Could someone offer me some help please. I'm going to a wedding in Canada in August. As far as I am aware the wedding starts at 6.00 pm with a meal then goes on into the night. Could anyone advise me on their dress code please?

Depends on the venue and if there is religion involved?

No religion involved. Beautiful hotel for venue

Usually a dress that's nearish knee length or possibly longer. Lots of floral midi dresses at the weddings I've been to (Canada). No hats or fascinators.

What do you have in mind?

That sound lovely. I've heard about no hats from a friend. I was thinking of a maxi dress would that be suitable. Also could I wear tights?

The best person to advise you would be the bride or groom.

I mean it's not like there's a standard dress code for Canadian weddings, any more than there is for UK weddings.

August is hot but depending on province/location humidity could be unbearable! But the venue if "nice" will have AC look into those details on the venue's website. A nice maxi if that's what you're comfortable in would be fine. In a fairly casual country a wedding is one of the last excuses to dress up. I haven't seen a hat at a wedding for 30-odd years but good hair will polish the look.

The last wedding I went to was my cousin’s in Canada. People wore mostly fairly formal dresses, some even evening-type dresses (but many weren’t). No hats to be seen - I remember checking beforehand but they are definitely not de rigeur as in the UK! This wedding was in late March in Toronto so there was still some snow on the ground so I packed my best coat!

Yes you can wear tights if you'd prefer. Which city/province will the wedding be in?

Thank you for your replies you have been so helpful. The wedding is in Vancouver

I've literally never been to a wedding in the U.K. where anyone has worn a hat! So they are not "de riguer". Depends on the formality of the wedding like anywhere.

I've just checked my wedding photo. Definitely no one at my wedding in a hat!! 😀

Ask the bride!
