Posting for traffic, sorry AUBU to ask for ideas for how to soften stool? Internal piles I think that get better for a couple of days but soon as I do a poo that's even slightly hard they start to bleed again. I've scheriproct suppositories from GP but they're not fixing it just because as soon as I poo it opens up again. Not in anyway constipated, eat loads of fruit and veg, taking 15 ml lactulose, trying to drink enough water but just can't seem to get them soft enough to allow piles to heal. Bit fed up

Honestly just recovered from this - had a baby recently and had piles for the first time last week. Lots of fresh blood and pain when I walked!

the suppositories eventually helped when I used it overnight and I drank lots of lots of water with 2 x 15m lactulose. The lactulose took a couple of days to kick in but has softened it right up which I think is healing my piles

it doesn’t hurt as much anymore and the bleeding did stop with the suppositories

so i think keep going - bjt there js also movicol which is a little stronger

Thanks, that's encouraging! Yes, think all had origins in pregnancy and getting dehydrated with breastfeeding. Need to remember to drink! Glad it's all resolved for you

Try having a bath as well to help the healing. Also wipe with wet wipes (but whatever you do, don't flush them!)

Agree with Lactulose. I suffer from constipation during pregnancy despite a healthy diet. 15ml morning and evening should be enough. You can take up to 45ml but that was way too much for me!

Have you tried a product called Procofoam? It is only available on prescription but it worked wonders for me in terms of soothing and healing.
The odd glass of fizzy Andrews also softened stools. Downside was it would make me go more often too so sometimes counterproductive in helping with soreness etc.

*Proctofoam

Get your GP to prescribe schriproct (? Think that's how its spelt) it does work in shrinking piles, take the issue seriously as from bitter experience I didn't and ended up going private for removal as was in so much pain. Warm water over the area and dry well. I hope you feel better. 🙏

I hope you get some relief and find something that works! I had an awful day yesterday stuck in bed with pain that pain meds and germoloids didn't help much with. Eventually managed to get to sleep for a couple of hours but scared to move or go toilet again for it to worsen again :( when trying to care for a newborn/9 day old baby it's so tough! Xx

Baths only (as long as possible), toilet once every 2 days (max 2-3 minutes timed), warm cooked food with fresh ingredients (heavy on veges and beans, avoid any food that doesn't need preparation).

Even when everything seems OK continue with routine for another 6 months. With no relapse it should be fixed.

So I think my piles has got a bit better compared to it being excruciating a few weeks ago

  • i used scheriproct which seemed to shrink it, eliminated bleeding and helped with the pain - it’s a steroid and I got it on prescription
  • the pain did come back a week later after I strained again so I decided I need to deal with that. One tab of the scheriproct and then a couple of the gemoloid suppository got rid of the pain again
  • To regularise my system I tried lactulose for a couple of days to soften things up
  • have been eating bran for breakfast every day
  • have been drinking lots and lots of water. 1.5 cups before each breastfeed and in between
  • i put my legs on a small stool when on the loo - as it’s meant to reduce the strain
  • im now off the lactulose but have the urgency to go every morning.

I think I’ll do the above and try fybogel if I need more fibre - but so far im feeling much better than I did
