To think 32.5 hours is full time?

tillyandmolly · 31/03/2023 20:34

I'm at work 35 hours a week (5 x 7 hour shifts) with a 30 minute break, so technically it's 32.5. AIBU to think this is full time work?

Was out with some of my mum friends the other night and was straight up told how "it must be quite nice to have part time work even though the DC are in secondary school". My DC are in secondary school yes and I'm working full time because of that? (Not implying people have to of course, but it's full time surely?)

Full time is 35 hours and above according to the gov.uk website, so you are in work for that number of hours, you just don't get paid for your lunch break. Definitely full time. Anyway, take no notice of what your mum friend said.

@Mypatioisminging why do you think that? I literally said in my title 32.5... if I thought it was, I'd have just said the whole time 35? Grin

Ok I guess as you started off with 35 hours, but get the semantics. Fully accepting you don’t understand standard full time hours and think most folks work 32.5 hours a week

Lunch isn't work

Chowtime · 31/03/2023 21:32

Can't be arsed to read the full thread but would class anything over 30 hours as full time.

SantoPalo · 31/03/2023 21:32

Where I work 35 hours is full time.

Undertheoldlindentree · 31/03/2023 21:32

It's less than full-time, so must be part time? If you think not, why not start or stay an extra hour a day for a week or two, just so you can see whether it feels different?

Beepbeepenergy · 31/03/2023 21:32

When I was working 30hrs per week working tax classed it as full time 🧐🤨

2chocolateoranges · 31/03/2023 21:32

I used to have a friend who always made sarcastic comments about me working part time and how lucky I was to not have to work full time and how I was a lady of leisure. I just put it down to jealousy and told her I loved my part time hours.

at the time I worked approx 20hrs, now work 30 hrs and it’s just perfect. I’m earning more for my 30hrs than I did for 40hrs previously .

jakscrakers · 31/03/2023 21:33

30+ hours is officially classed as full time so of course your full time

Mum2jenny · 31/03/2023 21:33

Most surveys consider more than 30 hours to be full time, under 30 hours are part time.

nutbrownhare15 · 31/03/2023 21:33

I would class 35-40 hours as full time. 32.5 would be just under a 0.9 contract where I work equating to just over a morning or afternoon off per week. However, it's almost 90% of a full time job so only marginally part time.

Inastatus · 31/03/2023 21:34

Pretty much full-time I reckon OP.

Viviennemary · 31/03/2023 21:34

No it's part-time.

Nivgor · 31/03/2023 21:34

legit be 31 active working HOURS a week.

tillyandmolly · 31/03/2023 21:35

@Mypatioisminging you're just making up stuff at this point. I clearly said 32.5 hours in my title as that's the hours I work and in my post I said I'm at work 35 and followed with my breaks. Nor do I think most people don't work more than that? Just because I think I work part time, as it feels it because I'm in 5 days a week for a 7 hour shift and don't feel like an extra 30 mins to an hour on the shift would change much about my day, doesn't mean I think most people also work 32.5 hours lol. Are you the friend I'm talking about? Grin

35 hours is full time where I work

eternalopt · 31/03/2023 21:35

I work in a law firm and 35 hours is standard and full time - it's 9-5 Monday to Friday (so 8 hour days) with an hour for lunch.

All depends what the standard hours are for your job and what your contract says. I they were advertising for a full time role, what would expectation be. Do you work shorter hours than your colleagues? Are your holidays pro data's etc?

Legal definition of a part time worker is just someone who works fewer hours than a full time worker in that role - there's no set number of hours

Mypatioisminging · 31/03/2023 21:35

I think some folks who don’t work are commenting. Surely no one who works full time thinks anything over 30 hours or 35 inc breaks is full time?

35 hours of work is considered full time. That’s working hours, not including breaks. The op is part time, she does 32.5 hours a week. It’s equivalent to 4 days full time.

tillyandmolly · 31/03/2023 21:36

@Undertheoldlindentree it's simply not allowed unless we are doing overtime for 2 hours which is a very very rare offer (has been offered once in the last year)

37 hours is full time to me, so I'd class you as full time. It's a bit of a grey area but I'd say part time is 25 hours or less.

Part time anything less than 25 hours? Really

piedbeauty · 31/03/2023 21:36

Moraxella · 31/03/2023 20:38

48hrs is full time

No, it's not... that would be 9.6 hours each day over 5 days...

bananafishbones1 · 31/03/2023 21:37

Our full time hours are considered to be 36.5, so not far off

You do understand if you mathematically calculate that it’s 35 without breaks? Not with?
