If a mum had a young child on a bus , say aged 3 - 5, for arguments' sake, and the mum got out a snack for the child - which was a sandwich box full of colourful, pre prepared salad - so loadsa lettuce, tomatoes finely chopped props and grated carrot etc - and the child ate it contentedly - - would an eyebrow be raised amongst the Mumsnet collective?

I love how desperately so many posters trying to twist everything to performance parenting.
Sounds like it’s actually a bit of guilt at play if you ever take note of what a toddler is eating never mind spend enough time to label it performative.
It’s highly unlikely a woman has prepped some food for her child with the opinion of randoms on the bus in mind.

Such low views of women if you think they are so desperate for your validation.

How long is this bus journey? If less than 90 minutes I would think the parent was insane/pathetic performance parenting.

Really? I actually think your post is the insane comment.
What has the length of the bus got to do with it? Why are you assuming they either came from home or are going straight home?

Maybe they came from a toddler group and are heading straight to a hospital appointment. How long do you need to make a young child wait for their food before it’s not performative?

AllyArty · 01/04/2023 21:04

No provided it didn’t smell - like eggs, I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.

CountessWindyBottom · 01/04/2023 21:48

Am I missing something glaringly obvious here? What is the point of this thread?

Being obsessed with what other people think about your toddler's snack to the extent of posting about it on mumsnet is the epitome of performance parenting.

Amplified narcissism, why bother with the head swivelling to see how people are responding when you can post shit on a forum.

I’m confused about the reason for
the post. Is the poster planning a bus meal for her small child or is this an incident she’s seen. I can’t be tagged reading the whole post so this may have become clear later on.

Either way, I’d think. If this is a meal does the child not deserve to eat it somewhere more pleasant than a bus and if it’s a just a snack, would a banana or cracker do the job of staving off until a more salubrious meal location.

furryfrontbottom · 02/04/2023 01:38

Who is this mythical child who will contentedly eat salad? Can you clone him? What if he decides to make a change to the script and throws his grated carrots on the floor or spits them out over the seat in front?

It’s an opposing thread to the one the other day with all the people judging the mum who gave her child a massive doughnut on a bus.

Hi just an update. Thanks for your replies - I can totally see how grated carrot and lettuce leaves are totally unsuited for a bus journey - and yes I can completely see that a bus is unhygienic for eating and there's no earthly reason why both children and adults can't wait until they get home to eat. I do know though that MN likes 'massive salads' - but hopefully without all the calorific dressings!! - but you're right - there's a time and a place - and maybe a bus isn't it !!

Yes , quite! Maybe salad on the bus is not a good idea

Passive aggressive thread, obviously aimed at another thread.

Fair point

Why does anyone need to eat on a bus??

Phoebo · 02/04/2023 11:46

I would think what a great lunch, and I would hope the child didn't drop anything. Like PP I wouldn't be very impressed that the child couldn't wait until they were off the bus and sitting down somewhere more suitable

MrsLighthouse · 02/04/2023 12:23

I couldn’t be asked to feed my child on a bus unless it was a really long journey….l’d rather give them something they could eat while walking so it doesn’t matter if it makes a mess. But with regards to your question …OF COURSE mums on mumsnet would have something to say about it 🤣 we could hotly debated anything !!!

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/04/2023 12:25

Banana or carrot sticks are probably more practical.

Asked?! 🤔. Do you mean you couldn't be arsed?

Do you really have to ask (or arse), surely it's obvious from the context?

ZebaBay · 02/04/2023 17:57

@CantBeArsedOrAsked - just love your MN name !

This is just strange, so a child eats salad, so what?!

YouOKHun · 01/04/2023 01:43

Tory Tango - that’s excellent @moomoomoo27. My DS came home with a couple of cans of that which he’s put in the fridge to savour for tomorrow. It will properly ruin it for him when I call it Tory Tango. If I mention Jacob Rees Mogg as well he’ll have to go for a lie down. JRM is known as The Haunted Pencil in this house which is the name given to him by Private Eye (I can’t take the credit for the very accurate name).

😂 amazing

oggie679 · 04/04/2023 20:50

I don't get this, why would anyone care - raising an eyebrow implies they'd look upon it negatively which makes no sense to me
