If a mum had a young child on a bus , say aged 3 - 5, for arguments' sake, and the mum got out a snack for the child - which was a sandwich box full of colourful, pre prepared salad - so loadsa lettuce, tomatoes finely chopped props and grated carrot etc - and the child ate it contentedly - - would an eyebrow be raised amongst the Mumsnet collective?

You'd be surprised some posters get very upset about donuts and mcdonalds

Just take a look at the Easter egg thread!

cartagenagina · 31/03/2023 15:24

How long is this bus journey? If less than 90 minutes I would think the parent was insane/pathetic performance parenting.

00100001 · 31/03/2023 14:39

They're not eating the salad from the floor you know...

Yes dear I know… I wouldn’t want a meal shovelled in to me on a stinking bus. Don’t know why anyone thinks it’s acceptable. Suppose it’s for the parent’s convenience and that’s all that matters to a lot of posters

OnaBegonia · 31/03/2023 16:34

10/10 for good mummy of the day.

Scirocco · 31/03/2023 16:35

I can never drink San Pellegrino again.

Eat whatever you want, feed your child whatever, so long as I'm not wearing it at the end of the journey it's not my problem.

Everything is judged here.

God help if you if there’s no meat 🤣are you forcing the child to be vegan- it’s probably child abuse lol

This is pretty much it. I wouldn't give a shit if someone was judging me or not. They're not the ones having to put up with a whiney hungry child. Regardless, it's likely I'd never see them again.

pictoosh · 31/03/2023 16:51

Why did you ask OP?

Kay286 · 31/03/2023 16:52

I’d be impressed !!

pictoosh · 31/03/2023 16:51

Why did you ask OP?

Because there had been criticism of processed, calorific, sugary food being given to children on public transport - and also much praise for the institution that is the 'massive salad'

Don’t feed them on the bus, it’s gross

Was about to say I can imagine one of Jacob Rees Mogg's kids doing that - with a San Pellegrino obviously, can't forget the Tory Tango - but then I guess they wouldn't be on a bus.

Tory Tango - that’s excellent @moomoomoo27. My DS came home with a couple of cans of that which he’s put in the fridge to savour for tomorrow. It will properly ruin it for him when I call it Tory Tango. If I mention Jacob Rees Mogg as well he’ll have to go for a lie down. JRM is known as The Haunted Pencil in this house which is the name given to him by Private Eye (I can’t take the credit for the very accurate name).

Just relax and let me tell you all about aeroplanes. This is going to blow your socks off…

Well that’s completely different. Meals on a plane are usually served because the journey is several hours long. Most public transport trips are relatively quick. No one, child or adult, is so ravenous that they just HAVE to eat on the bus and even if so a small hand held snack would suffice.

You’re absolutely right. Maybe you should produce a set of national guidelines that can be adopted by bus companies across the land? Incidentally, what is your cut-off for not being so ravenous that you shouldn’t eat on a bus, and perfectly acceptable to eat a full meal on a plane? 1 hr 23 mins and 35 secs? 3 hrs 27 minute and 11 secs? What if you start a meal before your line of consumption acceptability, but by the time the cheese course has arrived, you’ve crossed it? Is eating on a train journey ok, bearing in mind they can have an actual buffet car/trolley? If so, what about if it’s a bus journey, but it’s actually rail replacement bus service? My mind is throughly boggled now.

Bib1234 · 01/04/2023 17:54

Is this a not so humble brag?

oosha · 01/04/2023 18:04

Why is this even a thing or a question. I find it strange it even matters what anyone else thinks.

lindyloo57 · 01/04/2023 18:28

I haven't been on a bus for a few years, but I remember they had no eating on the bus sign.

Pupinski · 01/04/2023 18:30

Where is this coming from? Is your issue fear of being judged for giving your child a snack, or fear of being judged for giving your child a healthy snack?

If the latter, it implies that you think the other people on the bus would surely give their children less healthy snacks. Are you being a teeny bit judgmental yourself?

Solonge · 01/04/2023 19:09

Nope. Good choice of food.

WonderingWanda · 01/04/2023 19:35

I think the only place grubbier than a bus might a public toilet I wouldn't feed anyone on a bus.

itwereallfields · 01/04/2023 19:42

Did you not your performance parenting not get enough attention on the bus so now you've dragged it over here?

Also why are you 'laughing like a loon' at a typo.

Calm down. No-one cares about you or what your kids eats.

TeenLifeMum · 01/04/2023 20:03

Sounds messy.

Forgooodnesssakenow · 01/04/2023 20:21

KnickerlessParsons · 31/03/2023 12:31

I'd wonder why you feel the need to feed your child on a bus and probably judge you for not teaching your child to wait until the next mealtime/you get home before eating.

Really? Oh God you'd judge me to high heaven, I feed mine in transit because it makes them happier travellers and I actively choose meal or snack time to travel for that reason.

HarrietPoole · 01/04/2023 20:36

OP honestly - you needed to use the irony font. Or labelled it "lighthearted" 🙂
