To ask whether to drill into concrete?

Moving toddler into her own room. Bought a bunch of IKEA furniture and went to attach it to the wall before realising that the wall is concrete. The building was built in the 60s or 70s so it could have asbestos. But equally our DC is climbing on stuff so it needs to happen. I'm not sure what to do! WWYD?

Drilling into the wall YABU
Not securing the furniture YANBU

Unlikely in concrete.

You will need a special drill bit to drill into concrete.

GPTec1 · 30/03/2023 14:55

Asbestos was never routinely added to concrete because a: concrete doesn't burn and b: there is no structural reason to add it, offers nothing to the material.

Just spray down, wear a mask and use clean dust sheets.

Concrete walls won't have asbestos, you're thinking of artex.

Artex can have asbestos per 1980 something , but it's the low risk sort, so I'd do it with good ventilation and a mask

You'll be fine. Just make sure have correct drill bit and a bit of Welly. Of course avoid any potential wires.

Haha that's such a Mum comment 🤣
