Smear test results

Posting here for traffic as trying not to freak out.

Had my smear test 2 weeks ago, today I got a call from the reception at the doctors booking me if for a call to go through my results in a weeks time. This is what has freaked me out! My last doctors (I’ve moved areas) would send out a letter with the results. I’m not sure if I’m panicking for nothing, I know no one can guess the results but is it usual to have a call with the doctor for your results rather than just a letter
AIBU - totally normal for a doctor to discuss results over the phone
AINBU - a phone call is bad news

I think this is kinda unusual practice, but not necessarily in a bad way. To my understanding, even those with an abnormal result get a letter same as those with normal results and this is not from the GP but from NHS/hospital. They are then invited for further investigations. Somebody else might know differently though? I don't think further investigations are arranged via your GP.

Also remember than an abnormal result doesn't necessarily mean cancer either.

Come to think of it, I last did a smear in June and they've changed it from recent years. I think they now just test for HPV and if positive (which is not uncommon) they then check your cells. HPV positive also doesn't mean cancer, though its a good indicator if you're at risk for developing it in the future.
