WWYD - would you sell?

If a neighbour approached you and offered significantly over the value of your house to buy it from you (they would sell their property to you if you wanted), would you take them up on the offer?

YABU - I would not sell
YANBU - I would sell

Previous houses I’ve owned, I’d have bitten their hands off.

my present house is quite unique and the location suits me perfectly, so I’d struggle to find anywhere I’d like to live more without moving some distance away, which I wouldn’t want to do. Double the value and I might feel differently!

LoveBluey · 29/03/2023 13:12

No probably not because as ridiculous as it is I'd need a lot more than £100k to move to the next step up. I wouldn't go through all the upheaval of moving to something only a little better than I have and to get a much bigger/better house would cost more than I could afford even with the extra money.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 29/03/2023 13:16

@user40816 no. Too much stress and upheaval for me. We’re very happy where we are and there’s no guarantee that we would be if we moved

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 29/03/2023 13:18

Yes, but I'm not attached to the house but I am the area so would need to be enough to buy something else in this town

blackbeardsballsack · 29/03/2023 13:27

Yes definitely!

WallaceinAnderland · 29/03/2023 13:30

Where would you live? I can't find anywhere as nice as my house in my area even for 100k more. Have you looked to see what you could buy after all your selling and moving costs?

fussychica · 29/03/2023 13:40

Entirely possible as I live in a bungalow and they're like hen's teeth.
Obviously it would depend how much over market price they offered and whether I could find a place I wanted to buy in the time frame. Unlikely as I'd want another bungalow 😀

EnjoyingTheSilence · 29/03/2023 14:09

If I could find something I wanted, yes I would

sixfoot · 29/03/2023 14:12

Possibly, but they’d have to pay ask the moving costs too. Although 100k wouldn’t significantly upgrade your property around here so it would also depend on my finding something worth moving into! In a cheaper area where 100k is a higher percentage of the house value I could see the appeal.

Highfivemum · 29/03/2023 14:13

Yes yes and yes. Cash offer then I would snap there hands off

NoSquirrels · 29/03/2023 14:16

If it was my next-door neighbour to one side, yes. To my other side, no. So that doesn’t tell you much! Except that in reality it will all depend on what the alternative offered house is or what alternatives are available on the open market. I doubt anyone wants to move somewhere significantly shitter, even for an extra £100K, unless they’re in dire financial straits.

Mypatioisminging · 29/03/2023 14:16

Only if I wanted to move or knew I would in the near future. Past that no.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 29/03/2023 15:01

I would, assuming the amount over value was enough for me to buy a new house in the area. I assume it's not else why wouldn't they just do that?

2bazookas · 29/03/2023 15:02

I have often had people make offers to buy my properties that were not on the market. Most of them are just chancers trying to impress.
