When did you first notice your face had aged?

Until around 29/30 I was frequently asked if I was 'studying' and if I 'lived with my parents' that sort of thing. Once at 27 and once at 29 I was told "You look like you're still in high school."

Anyway now about to turn 32 and I've had nasolabial folds and smile lines appear what feels like overnight. It actually makes you question your face and whether they'd always been there and you just didn't notice them.
Also lost a lot of fat in my face despite not losing body weight. When I look at myself at 27/28 I had an incredibly round face and now just touching my face I can feel there's much less fat.

I still look 'young', it's just the first time I've noticed what feels like a definite shift in my face. I'm doing everything 'right' except for too much sugar which I really need to stop!

  1. My skin went from pretty good to dry, tired looking and some wrinkles really quick.
Vegalam · 29/03/2023 06:45

After having my first baby at 28! Stress and poor sleep really did a number on me and find it hard to reconcile with this more than the changes to my body

Fakeplastictrees55 · 29/03/2023 06:47

It's crazy how fast the changes can happen!
I know people will say it's genetic, and will tell me that they're 65 but look 25 despite smoking 50 a day.
However my parents have very good skin. My Mum's a little more aged due to lifelong smoking but it didn't start until later in life. My Dad at 59 has no sagging and only forehead lines.

Yeah definitely agree re stress. I'm always stressed sadly, usually about money. I need to find ways to control it, it's not helping.

Menopause for me. At 47 I looked 37. At 48 I looked like an old hag!

moita · 29/03/2023 06:50
  1. My 2nd child was born with a disability and health conditions the stress and lack of sleep made me age! Up until then none one would believe my age (I went to university at 25 and people thought I was 18).

I'm 37 now and look it.

Fakeplastictrees55 · 29/03/2023 06:51

I'm sure you don't!
I think menopause has done a number on my Mum too. She showed me a picture of when she was 38 and she looked around 27.
My aunt is holding up incredibly well at 60 but I know she's had various procedures.

I think a lot of this is genetic. I'm 63, I've only recently started to notice crow's feet around my eyes and some smile lines. My mother was the same. Which makes me think that there isn't much that you can do about it, unfortunately.

Emeraldsrock · 29/03/2023 06:52

At about 35/36 when my second born was about two. I noticed forehead lines/ frown lines and the texture of my skin wasn’t as glowy. Maybe not a coincidence it was after breastfeeding and frequent pregnancy weight fluctuations. Got Botox at 38 and the frown line has been stopped in it’s tracks. Now at 40 I feel like it’s weight gain on my face that is aging me all of a sudden.finding it harder to shift the weight with a few gym trips and cutting snacks like I used to.

Myneighbourskia · 29/03/2023 06:53

About two years ago when I was 40. I noticed lines under my eyes which weren't there before. If I smile, I definitely look my age now, whereas before I looked fairly youthful. My neck is a bit puckered too.

Fakeplastictrees55 · 29/03/2023 06:53

I'm thinking of getting filler for the nasolabial folds. I feel like I'm young to be starting this, it's a shame really. They're just getting me down even though they're perfectly natural.

Late 40's ... my face changed beforehand but I feel I look 'old' now ... not got lines yet but feel my skin looks bumpy and aged

icanneverthinkofnc · 29/03/2023 06:58

Oh god...fairly recently for me..the ageing seemed a slow process until the last year or so..the menopause has really hurt! I was never 'attractive' but I did look younger than I was..now it's both! Looking old..and unattractive..I avoid mirrors!

toucaninjapan · 29/03/2023 06:59

Same here OP!
I have always looked young, frequently said by others that I have a "baby face" and so on, well, I've recently turned 32 and I've started noticing changes in my face (some fine lines under my eyes) about 6 months ago. It did feel like it happened overnight!
DF was frequently mistaken for my brother when I was in elementary school and he was in his 40s, and as I take after his family a lot in my looks I have expected to look young a bit more tbh... Not like I don't seem "young" anymore of course.
I've started doing tretinoin, been doing it for a couple of months, but can't see any effect. At least not yet.Hmm

Cakeykid · 29/03/2023 06:59

I think it depends on genetics and luck!

My mum is nearly 70 but honestly looks no older than 45/50. I'm around 40, I have to take ID with me when I buy alcohol as I always get asked for it. But I'm short too, and quite petite, so I think that makes me seem younger?

I wear glasses which I think hides a few wrinkles too...personally I don't think I look under 25 at all, especially if you look closely!

My nan looked young though too, and probably only looked 'old' once in her 80s.

Here's hoping!!!

  1. The photos are very noticeable. I think every month I get older and older looking. I try not to mind because "fuck you, patriarchy" and all that but it's a bit dispiriting to say the least.
Fakeplastictrees55 · 29/03/2023 07:05

You are lucky indeed 😂
I've used tretinoin for some dark circles I had and honestly it's made an improvement but it did take a few months. Hopefully yours will kick in soon!
Just started taking Boots collagen tablets, might just be snake oil but time will tell.

I think I'm doing well for 51 but then I'll catch myself in a shop window and think who's that old person?! But I do think genetics and other factors play a part. I have drunk 2L of water a day since my late teens and I don't smoke so my skin's in pretty good nick and people always assume I'm younger than I am. Plus HRT and collagen works wonders! I'm also a bit overweight – face over figure means fewer wrinkles – but I do worry I'm a bit jowly. Swings and roundabouts!

Fakeplastictrees55 · 29/03/2023 07:06

It is :(
I've been working with year 13 recently so 17/18 and I was thinking one day that even though I'm young in general society, they probably think I'm an old bat compared to them! And being 18 feels like a minute ago.

I‘m 36 and have recently noticed how old I look. Especially when looking at photos from just a few years ago.

I‘m quite sure my looks have changed a lot since having my second child, who is now 3.5. He has never been a good sleeper and it shows in my face!!

Fakeplastictrees55 · 29/03/2023 07:07

Definitely going to up the water, don't drink enough. Sugar is a serious problem that I'm finding hard to kick.

I do think drinking lots of water is the best beauty tip. If your skin is hydrated you don't need to slap on loads of face cream!

Switchwitch · 29/03/2023 07:09

Just think of it as wiser, softer, different, not old and bad.

I don't think there's a way of doing those that don't make you look like Desperate Dan (you may need to google him), even my facial doctor looks similar.

Fakeplastictrees55 · 29/03/2023 07:11

Yes absolutely, it's not bad at all. It just takes time to get used to the new you, it really does creep up on you overnight and as I say I've started questioning if I always had these lines but just never noticed!
