When did you first notice your face had aged?

Until around 29/30 I was frequently asked if I was 'studying' and if I 'lived with my parents' that sort of thing. Once at 27 and once at 29 I was told "You look like you're still in high school."

Anyway now about to turn 32 and I've had nasolabial folds and smile lines appear what feels like overnight. It actually makes you question your face and whether they'd always been there and you just didn't notice them.
Also lost a lot of fat in my face despite not losing body weight. When I look at myself at 27/28 I had an incredibly round face and now just touching my face I can feel there's much less fat.

I still look 'young', it's just the first time I've noticed what feels like a definite shift in my face. I'm doing everything 'right' except for too much sugar which I really need to stop!

Im 44 and I have noticed a huge difference between in last year or so. Ive suddenly started looking old.

WeddingDays · 29/03/2023 07:24

I'm mid thirties and had my first child in my twenties. After DC1 I aged SO much I was anaemic and not sleeping, breastfeeding, depressed and exhausted. I survived on weak tea and biscuits. So, sugar, lack of sleep, stress and poor nutrition and I looked 10-15 years older.
When DC1 was 3 I looked my age or younger so it recovered.
I had a stressful job around the pandemic and it aged me so much.
When I'm stressed I don't sleep and I don't eat well. When I don't sleep I get stressy and eat rubbish. It's all linked to this triangle for me. Weight gain also ages me but I hear when you are older like 50+ it's more youthful to have a little bit more weight but I think when you are younger weight is more aging.

So sleep, cut down or out the sugar, goes withoutsaying no wine or smoking or drugs, sleep and hydrate, chill out. It takes my face anything from 2 weeks to 3 months to look better.

Having kids and bereavement aged me. I still look younger than my age, but I no longer look underage. I recently saw a picture of myself on Facebook Memories from 13 years ago. I was 26 but looked about 15 - no wonder I used to get ID-ed everywhere! I looked out of place next to my similarly-aged friends. I'm 39 now, but people assume I'm early 30s these days.
A good friend whose ageing seemed to get to 'mid 20s' and stick there for years suddenly looked much more her age from her mid 40s (still beautiful skin and glow-y, but noticeable fine lines), and I've noticed other slightly older friends suddenly age a bit at the same point, so I'm expecting another sudden deterioration in 5 years!

DappledThings · 29/03/2023 07:29

Dunno. I don't take much notice. I'm 43. I have plenty of lines here and there. I have no idea what a nasolabial fold is but I'm sure I have one. Always had rosacea too so usually quite red, sometimes bumpy.

I think I probably look my age, maybe older? Getting way too little sleep at present which probably ages me. But it's just my face, it is what it is. It's done me fine so far and I can't imagine starting to give it any headspace any time soon.

Saniflo · 29/03/2023 07:30

36... I am 37 now. I all of a sudden realised I had loads of greys and my face had started to look old.

electricmoccasins · 29/03/2023 07:36

i looked horrendous late 30s - overweight, sleep deprived with a toddler, plus teaching.

I’m nearly 44 now and look better than when I was late 30s. Quit teaching, older child, lost weight, healthy eating and HRT. Plus lightened my hair colour. It’s amazing how that can brighten your face.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 29/03/2023 07:38

The morning when I asked
"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?"

After a brief pause the reponse was
"A cardboard box has less corrugations than you do."

That was a bit Grimm.

2023Hope · 29/03/2023 07:39

I’ve been away recently and noticed my reflection a few times in restaurants, a train and tram window and despite enjoying the chat very much my face wasn’t showing it 😱I looked down at mouth urgh! Then tied to keep a slight smile on to look as engaged as I was feeling !

I am early 60s and drooping a bit now 😬

Isledelaray · 29/03/2023 07:39

I've aged since having a baby at 38. Even one who sleeps well!

I don't drink alcohol at all and I think it helps. A couple of my friends are fairly big drinkers and are starting to age quite fast.

My mum still looks about 50 at age 70 and hasn't had any work done so I'm hoping! She does eat an amazing diet though - all healthy and homecooked, walks in the countryside everyday, sleeps well and has never worked so that might have something to do with it!

bussteward · 29/03/2023 07:40

At 41. I had my second baby and the life drained from me. I’ve got crepey skin around my eyes now, and that telltale saggy jawline. Pregnant, and prior to this, I had the usual mistaken for an intern/not always taken seriously at work because I must be junior/ID’d buying wine stuff. Now I get people taking my elbow to help me across the road 😂

IhearyouClemFandango · 29/03/2023 07:40

I'm 42 and am just starting to notice little marionette lines, and puffier eye bags. A few crow's feet from lots of time squinting on the water. My actual skin itself isn't doing too badly.

WildAloofRebel · 29/03/2023 07:47

Last few weeks! I’m 33, thought I had much longer! A couple of forehead and 11 lines setting in and bigger cheeks (I’m blaming DD). Also still get spots so that’s fun!

Whenisitsummer · 29/03/2023 07:51

At around 35 was when I noticed.
Up till about 30, I was always asked if my mam or dad were in when I answered my door 🤣.

I’m 44 this year and same. I aged quite well as round faced up to forty. Genetics in my family are ok with regards to aging too. However I’m now noticing the smaller things changing. My under eye is darker and hollowing. I’ve not much in the way of wrinkles but my face is aging regardless. It’s very weird sometimes when I look in the mirror.

But I’ve lost two friends in their 40s recently and I’ve worked with children that have passed so I’m of the opinion to be very grateful I get the chance to age.

Im just using skincare and healthy diet at the minute but who knows in the future.

Doingmybest12 · 29/03/2023 07:55

Generally , after having my children, again recently since staring at myself on video calls! . People always used to comment I looked young in my 20s. Now when I say my age ,I hope for a bit of surprise but people just nod and carry on the conversation.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/03/2023 07:57

In the last year at 42 .I have botox and its doing its job but u just feel like I look a bit older now.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 29/03/2023 08:00

I still look pretty good at 44, I reckon. I have 11s, which irritate me, and some crows feet when I smile, but my skin is still taut and "glows", and I have good bone structure.

I drink a lot of water, wear sun screen (have to or I get hyperpigmentation), and eat fairly healthily, but I credit it mostly to genetics. I don't use any face treats other than an Aldi moisturiser and night cream.

I'm not menopausal yet, so aware it can all go downhill fast though!

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 29/03/2023 08:03

Like another PP
, bereavement aged me. There is a photo of me taken just before my DM was suddenly diagnosed with with a huge, incurable, fast growing brain tumour. I spent four months up in my home town whilst DM went straight from A and E to a week on a ward to a couple of months in a hospice. After she died, there is a photo of me being being reunited with one of my cats and I look five years older than I did a few months earlier.
On a more amusing note a few years earlier, I was looking in the mirror and noticed a mucky line of something on my forehead. Well it wasn’t a mucky line but instead a wrinkle, as I discovered after rubbing it with a flannel 😂 I was about 45. Although I’m a classic example of “fat don’t crack” so I have natural plumping in the form of fat.

mollyoppy · 29/03/2023 08:06

I'm 35 and only stopped getting ID'd in the last year. Don't really have wrinkles but I know I somehow suddenly look older. I don't have great bone structure, always wished I had a strong jaw.

Been using sunscreen most days since 25, try to drink a lot of water, little booze or sugar, decent amount of exercise.

Too scared to get botox or fillers, despite being obsessed with celeb before/after photos. It's crazy what a needle can do these days. Instead I'm working on having nicer hair to compensate!

Easter3gg · 29/03/2023 08:06
  1. Looked ok before then
SisterAgatha · 29/03/2023 08:07

My actual face is getting better with age, I’ve got less buccal fat so I look chiselled as I was moon face for years

eyes and neck need work hahahhaha

and I was exactly 39 when i realised.

thebaneofmylifeisacat · 29/03/2023 08:08

Just starting to notice slight chin/neck sag but not too bad. Am 58. Makeup skin cream and treatments work well

Slimjimtobe · 29/03/2023 08:12

I think having weight on had aged me but I am slowly losing it : also forehead lines (image attached) but I don’t want that stark look from Botox so I might get a fridge (photo attached) I’m mid 40s

Slimjimtobe · 29/03/2023 08:12

A fringe (the fridge is what I’m trying to avoid) 🤣

Wineloffa · 29/03/2023 08:13

My advice to all of you is; no matter how good /bad you think you look, DO NOT catch a glimpse of yourself in the camera at Asda’s self scan checkout. You will look 102… Grim.
