When did you first notice your face had aged?

Until around 29/30 I was frequently asked if I was 'studying' and if I 'lived with my parents' that sort of thing. Once at 27 and once at 29 I was told "You look like you're still in high school."

Anyway now about to turn 32 and I've had nasolabial folds and smile lines appear what feels like overnight. It actually makes you question your face and whether they'd always been there and you just didn't notice them.
Also lost a lot of fat in my face despite not losing body weight. When I look at myself at 27/28 I had an incredibly round face and now just touching my face I can feel there's much less fat.

I still look 'young', it's just the first time I've noticed what feels like a definite shift in my face. I'm doing everything 'right' except for too much sugar which I really need to stop!

Very recently now in my late 40s, I'm guessing I'm getting into peri-menopause zone?
Nothing sudden or drastic with my face, just a continuation of the ageing process, but I just don't look youthful any more, I've reached that tipping point.

Delatron · 29/03/2023 09:25

I think right up until 38/39 people looked shocked when I told them my age. Then suddenly nobody looked surprised anymore! It was awful. I think 43 is the most common age for people to seek help from aesthetic/cosmetic doctors apparently. And I do think there is quite a bit of speedy ageing that happens through the 40s. Late 40s for many. It’s rare to see a 50 year old who looks 10-15 years younger. (Apart from on Mumsnet). You can look great but not 10 years younger anymore.

I think it seems to level off once you hit your 60s from what I see.

MasterBeth · 29/03/2023 09:32

When I was five and looked at a photo of when I was a baby...

Your face and body change throughout your life. You'll always look younger now than you will in five years time, so enjoy how you look while you can.

You can have all the fillers, Botox and surgery in the world and you don't look younger. You look like a 30/40/50 somethingn with fillers, Botox or surgery.

queenofthewild · 29/03/2023 09:43

I was on a zoom call with a load of other mothers of similar aged children the other day. I looked so jowly in comparison with everyone else.

I can't fathom if I'm aging fast or if it's unusual to see faces that haven't had work. Excessive fillers are definitely becoming the norm where I live. I'm too tight to part with that kind of money.

At around 32/33. I began to notice make up sinking into the lines on my forehead, lines around my eyes and my eyelids had gone more “crinkly” and more difficult to put eyeshadow on. Also have some lines appearing around my mouth. I’m late 30s now and the blissful ignorance of youth and the days of being ID’d are long gone

Dreamstate · 29/03/2023 09:47

Hit 40 and no change yet, however if I am dehydrated I see the two lines by my eyebrows appearing. So I know at some point the lines will be there forever and about to start using tretonin. Hoping I can make another 10yrs with no significant or visible lines but we shall see.

I am quite surprised to be honest because I wash my face with soap no proper skincare routine other than using nivea face cream. So to have got this far I think I've been lucky.

I have noticed that if i frown more or crease my forehead the lines start to appear - maybe victoria beckham was onto something by not moving her face so much haha

32! Couple of difficult years and sleepless nights with my twins (and an older child too) juggling it all on my own as my husband works long hours as had to work all the more to keep our heads above water as we needed a new car etc to fir the car seats in & i’ve no family so no break! That really aged me. I lost my mum in my 20s pre kids & within a few years of her dying i had no grandparents & i lost my first pregnancy. I joke i’ve had a hard life so thats why i look so old but it’s been more of a sad life. I have a lot of wrinkles alrhough people still say i don’t look my age i def do! (I’m 38) my husband is 44 and he has always looked really young & its past year he’s really aged. The wrinkles have come for him now & he’s started going grey. In my head we’re still in our 20s.

evangron · 29/03/2023 09:48

31 three months PP

I lost my baby weight and more in record time due to breastfeeding - seems the majority of it came off my face

I look like a different person than what I did pre-pregnancy

I now have Botox to sort the 11s and crows feet but have just accepted I look tired at all times

CamoFlamingo · 29/03/2023 09:49

Vegalam · 29/03/2023 06:45

After having my first baby at 28! Stress and poor sleep really did a number on me and find it hard to reconcile with this more than the changes to my body

Same, had my DD at 28 and my face suddenly changed when she was a few months old although I noticed a lot of people seem to suddenly age around 28 so it may have happened anyway.

tiger2691 · 29/03/2023 09:49

Male pattern baldness, also salt and pepper whiskers.

I think a lot of this is genetic. I'm 63, I've only recently started to notice crow's feet around my eyes and some smile lines. My mother was the same. Which makes me think that there isn't much that you can do about it, unfortunately.

Completely agree with this. I’m 64, and have only begun to see a few wrinkles. Very much a genetic thing.

pontipinemum · 29/03/2023 10:05

I'm 35, I recently had an acquaintance through a hobby who I know is 36 say something about people "my age" I asked how old she thought I was she said about 24/25 so I must look younger than I am.

But then when I see people that actually are 20 they look really young to me. Like I know they are 20 but they are so fresh faces. Unless they are plastered in make up which often makes them look older.

My great gran died at 96 and her skin was amazing until then (obviously she looked old).

I think lots of water, and moisturise when you think of it. I was never more than a casual smoker in my 20s and I've since quit all together. I have also mostly stopped drinking alcohol. I think those things help.

JackiePlace · 29/03/2023 10:07

I noticed crow's feet first appear when I was 21. But up until around 40 people always assumed I was younger than I am. Non -smoker and I stay out of the sun, and have always used expensive face creams.

SVRT19674 · 29/03/2023 10:12

Hmm as from 45ish. I have always looked a good deal younger, like my mum. She is 77 and no wrinkles. My eyelids started to go down over my eyes and some sagging on neck. No wrinkles to speak of. I will be 49 in June. I am judged to be 42ish.
I really notice it when an old Facebook photo pops up of when I was in my 30s. My face glowed more, was rounder and I wasn´t heavier.

KnottyKnitting · 29/03/2023 10:19

Last summer I was chatting to someone who assumed I had young children and was shocked when I told her my DDs were 25 and 23. She then assumed I had had them very young- nope 31 when I had my first ( 57 at the time.)

People have always assumed I am around ten years younger than I am, until the last month or so where I suddenly look much closer to my age... eyelids much droopier and skin on my cheeks beginning to look crinkled. I am quite shocked that it seems to have deteriorated so quickly- almost overnight!

itssquidstella · 29/03/2023 10:25

I’m 37 and had a baby last year. I definitely think I look older now than I did pre-pregnancy!

I’m also someone who used to be taken for younger than my actual age; I still look pretty good, I think, but I definitely look like I’m in my 30s now whereas until I was 35/36, people used to assume I was late 20s. Oh well.

ImAvingOops · 29/03/2023 10:27

I'm 49 and I reckon within the last 2 years. Menopause has hit me hard

MiniDinosaur · 29/03/2023 10:30

Step changes here. Around 40 I went through a big nagative life event and sleepless nights, stress and depression took their toll. I went from looking younger to looking my age.
At 45 I aged overnight, and this happened as I started with peri menopausal symptoms. I look older facially and my body had softened and spread. My neck is a disaster now.

Blossomtoes · 29/03/2023 10:31

I find it’s not a gradual process. I looked pretty much the same for years but have aged a lot in quite a short space of time recently. I still don’t have any forehead lines or 11s, despite being 70 this year - I put that down to being an obsessive sunglasses wearer all my adult life. But my jawline is now blurred, I have marionette lines and lines round my mouth. I still look younger than most of my contemporaries but I put that down to genetics and being a bit overweight.

Phos · 29/03/2023 10:32

34ish? Around the time my daughter's behaviour deteriorated!

GettingStuffed · 29/03/2023 10:33

Properly aged , in the last year. I obviously had aged but I only had fine lines. Then my fil died and I had to help look after my Mil who had dementia. I now have crows feet, marionette lines an a turkey neck.

I'm nearly 59 and probably now pass for late 40s rather than early 40s as I did this time last year

I'm not boasting about this both my grandmothers looked young for their ages, even though they were both in their 90s when they died and coup have passed for late 70s

SilhouettesOnTheShade · 29/03/2023 10:47

Early 30s...also after my first baby (I was 31 when he was born). I look dreadful at the moment (ds2 is 9 weeks old, I'm 34). I'm hoping I can kick some life back into me when I'm getting sleep again 😑but I think the bags under my eyes are here to stay...

DragonflyLady · 29/03/2023 11:01

When I was 53. I suddenly looked older. I’m 54 now. To be fair, I know I look about ten years younger but last year I just noticed I looked older!

Mercurial123 · 29/03/2023 13:05

I don't have many wrinkles yet BUT I have very deep nasolabial folds which appeared when I turned 40. I hate them but have learned to live with it. I refuse to get filler.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 29/03/2023 13:44

What are nasolabial folds? A few people have mentioned them and I don't even know what they are. Something new to worry about developing!
