Hi
Six years ago I was catfished on facebook. Didn't send money but did send a nude which I regret. I then found out the person I was talking to was fake and they deleted their profile. Is it worth reporting to the police now or is it too late????

What crime would you be reporting them for?

senoha · 28/03/2023 20:52

don't know, manipulating a nude out of me? wouldn't have sent it if I thought they were fake

How old were you?
We're you underage and groomed into sending the photo?
Has the person reappeared threatening to reveal photo?
If you were an adult and there is no blackmail or other illegal aspect to it, what outcome would you like if you reported it?

IamSmarticus · 28/03/2023 20:58

You shouldn't really be sending nude photos to randoms on Facebook anyway, fake or real!

Six years down the line I doubt the Police will be interested.

senoha · 28/03/2023 20:58

I was 30, wasn't groomed or blackmailed. I don't know, just want to find out who it really was!

That's not illegal though, and neither is catfishing.

Unless they're threatening to blackmail you with it or one / both of you were underage, I'm sorry but reporting to the police is futile as there's no crime.

So get in touch with Catfish, not the bloody police. Yes, this person may have been a catfish, but you were still a 30 year old who chose to send a complete stranger explicit photographs...6 years ago ffs

Move on

Pippa12 · 28/03/2023 21:06

What makes this still the forefront of your mind from 6 years ago?

PortmeirionTiles · 28/03/2023 21:07

If it’s just that you sent it, I can’t see that any law has been broken.

I’m sorry you got catfished though OP, it sounds like an upsetting experience.

senoha · 28/03/2023 21:07

found it while clearing out my inbox and it pissed me off! anyway lesson learned thanks

The police won't find this out for you.

You've learned a tough lesson, but it's time to move on.

Ktime · 28/03/2023 21:13

I’m sorry that happened to you. Can you do a reverse Google image search to see if they uploaded it anywhere? Hopefully you didn’t include your face in pic?

Did you ever video call him?

HoneyPotBee · 28/03/2023 21:23

How did you find out the person was a catfish?

Are you sure they were really a catfish or did they just block you after they got the pics?

SpinningFloppa · 28/03/2023 21:32

Op probably fell for one of those profiles pretending to be a celebrity 🤦🏻

senoha · 28/03/2023 21:35

yeah can't find it anywhere! no we didn't video call x

I’m sorry this happened to you OP, it’s a rough way to learn that sending nudes to random folk on Facebook is a less-than-sensible idea… I’d move on now - you sent it willingly and weren’t coerced so the police won’t be remotely interested I’m afraid.
