Fridges! Storage!

I worked in kitchens when young. I did the usual food hygiene courses. One of the absolute basics is that meat does not go above ready to eat stuff.

At home one of the f&v draws in my fridge is f&v and the other is for meat. No cross contamination and actually root veg shouldn't be mixed with fruit or salad either in storage.

Looking for a new fridge freezer atm. Not one has two container at the bottom. Most of them have a have label saying fruit and veg and only one bottom container.

Am I the weirdo for not putting meat above my fridge on a shelf? AIBU and precious about this?

Very precious. Surely if it's wrapped/packaged properly or in a large enough container it won't leak into the drawer and cause cross-contamination.

I wouldn’t put raw meat from the butcher which is hand wrapped above foods that weren’t to be cooked in case it dripped. More out of the mess than anything else, I eat a lot of raw and near raw meat and fish so am fairly relaxed about it. Supermarket vacuum packed meat I’d shelve anywhere. It’s all fully sealed and has been touching in my shopping bags anyway.

I use a seperate bag for raw meat from the supermarket.

Maybe I am precious 😂 but I had it drummed into me so much when working in kitchens that raw meat goes at the bottom and to avoid cross contamination. When I ran a kitchen I wouldn't have accepted deliveries of raw meat next to ready to cook food. The packaging of raw meat is still a contamination risk.

Is no one else precious like me?

I've been googling and apparently I'm right to do this.

We've got a Siemens FF with 2 drawers. Top says veg and bottom says meat. New ones seem to be the other way round but you could ignore the words?!

I have a Liebherr fridge with three drawers that take half the fridge. Bottom 2 are for fruit & veg, top one is for meat. There are shelves above that.

I have a small separate freezer - we hardly eat anything frozen, so prefer a huge full size fridge.
