NC for this - I am fuming!

So, I have a DS that goes to a gymnastics class for 3-4 year olds with parents present.

The instructor asked the kids last time who is the princess that likes snow and some kids replied “Elsa” . Then the instructor asked “And what Elsa does to things with the snow? They make them…” and then she expected the kids to say “Freeze”. She did all of that to teach them how to “freeze” and stop moving.

My point is that Frozen and many other Disney movies are not recommended by Disney to be watched by kids less than 5 years old and they should be watched with parental supervision up until 8 years old as there are some upsetting scenes.

For this reason our 3 year old DS has never watched Frozen, Moana etc. He just watched Peppa Pig, Bluey, Paw Patrol, Hollie & Ben etc.

Was it appropriate for the instructor to expect the 3 year olds kids to have watched Disney movies in order to participate in the class?

I honestly felt so sorry for our DS during the class! He is a very reserved and shy boy when in public and this whole thing just made it all even worse.

What do you all think?

YABU - Frozen is fine for 3 year olds
YANBU - Frozen is not fine until 5 year old as advised by Disney

YABU. And seriously - fuming because a gymnastics teacher asked them about Elsa? Complete and utter overreaction to be "fuming" about this.

Oysterbabe · 27/03/2023 14:28

3 peak frozen age imo. I have videos of DD and DS at 3 in Elsa dresses, twirling and singing. You need to unclench a bit.

Carbsfordays · 27/03/2023 14:30

This is a joke.. right? Please tell me you can't be this precious 🫠🫠🫠

GoodChat · 27/03/2023 14:30

Peppa Pig's a right snotty little bitch. You're better off with him watching Frozen.

Koalaslippers · 27/03/2023 14:30

I always watch Disney films with my kids for the first time so I'm there for any scary bits but my 3 and 6 year olds have seen most of them. Not unusual at all for 3-4 year olds to watch frozen.

SurvivingJust1 · 27/03/2023 14:31

Even if your son hasn't seen them how has he escaped singing and dancing along to them and therfore knowing who Elsa is?! Every party/disco going Let it Go is murdered by my three year old!

Tiredforfive45 · 27/03/2023 14:33

YABUB - you are being utterly batshit.

Hiphopopotamus · 27/03/2023 14:33

To be fuming about this is bizarre. Also 3-4 year old can barely be described as toddlers.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 27/03/2023 14:34

If you are for real then you are being utterly ridiculous, and a little bit batshit tbh.

let it go GIF

Never seen this before but entirely apt!!

NoLostCause · 27/03/2023 14:36

Really? This seems like a strange thing to be hung up on. DS loved Frozen at 3. He's seen most Disney movies now at 4.5.

Disneyblueeyes · 27/03/2023 14:36

I'm actually fuming at this.

And I'm not talking about the gymnastics instructor.

This HAS to be a joke.

If not, you need to get a grip, a massive one.

YouBoggleMyMind · 27/03/2023 14:36

YABU

Yellowrosesmakemehappy · 27/03/2023 14:37

Judging by your fuming reaction I thought you were going to say something like Elsa shags Olaf in the snow or something.

MotherOfHouseplants · 27/03/2023 14:39

This has got to be a reverse. OP is the gymnastics instructor and needs to talk down a batshit parent. Surely?

Get a grip

I am real!

My son will turn 3 years old this week actually. He is just about 3, not close to 4 and a bit speech delayed and bilingual.

I don’t know any frozen songs, we have only been to two birthday parties (they only two friends from nursery had) and there was no frozen music to none of them.

I don’t have any older kids and so he doesn’t have any bigger siblings to get exposed to things that are bot age appropriate.

He sings things like twinkle twinkle little star and incy wincy spider.

Is this not normal for a just about 3 year old?

This made me snort my tea. So accurate.

My dd is three today. She knows let it go word for word.

In fact I think that's my advice. Let It Go.

GoodChat · 27/03/2023 14:43

@Frozenprincess musics great for language development

@Frozenprincess Totally normal for him to sing nursery rhymes but your reaction to him watching Disney films is not. And also why be 'fuming' about it.. my daughter is 4 & I'm sure there's things her friends have watched that she hasn't but it really, really does not matter!

NeverApologiseNeverExplain · 27/03/2023 14:44

I watch a lot of Disney show song clips with DS, started when he was a toddler. He is 6 now and still hasn’t watched the full version of lots of them as he’s a self-confessed scaredy cat/has quite a short attention span. He’d be very upset by Mufasa dying in the Lion King, for example, but that is no reason not to let him enjoy “I just can’t wait to be King”- same with “You’re Welcome” from Moana (which has the scary crab bit elsewhere in the movie).

I think it’s pretty common to introduce them to age-appropriate extracts earlier, so I don’t think it’s that unreasonable for the teacher to have referenced Elsa.

Littlegoth · 27/03/2023 14:46

YADBU

My Disney+ subscription has paid for itself. My 2 year old witters about Lightning McQueen from sun up to sun down.

4EyesandBigThighs · 27/03/2023 14:46

This has to be a troll post, surely no one is actually sorry about toddlers watching Disney movies?!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 27/03/2023 14:46

YABU. I've got an almost-4 year old, he knew about Frozen well before he'd even seen it because his classmates at nursery talk about it. There are also funny little Frozen Shorts on Disney+ which he'd seen. Plus we'll sometimes shove the Disney Hits playlist on Spotify for him, so he knows 'Let it Go".

He's got enough brain capacity to know about the Incy Wincy Spider, and also have an encyclopedic knowledge of Disney Classics. It's not either/or!
