Toddlers - Disney movies - Please vote

NC for this - I am fuming!

So, I have a DS that goes to a gymnastics class for 3-4 year olds with parents present.

The instructor asked the kids last time who is the princess that likes snow and some kids replied “Elsa” . Then the instructor asked “And what Elsa does to things with the snow? They make them…” and then she expected the kids to say “Freeze”. She did all of that to teach them how to “freeze” and stop moving.

My point is that Frozen and many other Disney movies are not recommended by Disney to be watched by kids less than 5 years old and they should be watched with parental supervision up until 8 years old as there are some upsetting scenes.

For this reason our 3 year old DS has never watched Frozen, Moana etc. He just watched Peppa Pig, Bluey, Paw Patrol, Hollie & Ben etc.

Was it appropriate for the instructor to expect the 3 year olds kids to have watched Disney movies in order to participate in the class?

I honestly felt so sorry for our DS during the class! He is a very reserved and shy boy when in public and this whole thing just made it all even worse.

What do you all think?

YABU - Frozen is fine for 3 year olds
YANBU - Frozen is not fine until 5 year old as advised by Disney

I know, it's actually supposed to be beneficial to school aged children @ThanksItHasPockets isn't it!

IrisM22 · 27/03/2023 15:58

Let it go.

Newusername3kidss · 27/03/2023 15:59

Ha ha ha - my eldest son’s favourite film when he was 3 was frozen and he constantly sang let it go. He’s 9 now and amazingly me letting him watch a film “underage” hasn’t affected him. You are so unreasonable

Danidandan · 27/03/2023 16:01

You sound completely off your rocker.
Your attitude towards these kinds of things will embarrass you child. Not the gymnastics teacher asking about what Elsa does 😂
And a 3 year old (or 'just turning') is preschooler.

Your child is not a toddler.

YABU.

IWineAndDontDine · 27/03/2023 16:05

My 2yo is watching frozen on the sofa as we speak with a sick bowl next to her. I guess I'll start saving for therapy

To be fair a 3yo is classed as a toddler

And they only started saying “Preschool” and “Preschooler” in the UK very recently. When I was a kid it was all just “nursery”.

Sorry @FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee that was supposed to be a joke. Sorry sorry.

DD was 4/5 when Frozen came out and was filmed for Good Morning Britain about the Frozen phenomenon at a friends 5th birthday party and they were all dressed up in princess/Elsa dresses and knew the words.

DS first went to a Disney movie at 4 months! He has watched them all

supersonicginandtonic · 27/03/2023 16:16

@Frozenprincess as long as a child is loved and cared for properly, screen time and Disney movies are of nobodies business. Please step into the real world and unclutch those pearls 🙄

IHeartGeneHunt · 27/03/2023 16:21

Peppa Pig is banned in my house for being a naughty little twat. My 4 year old is currently watching Disney's Robin Hood. Nice fox, catchy tune, happy ending, and no cunty pig in sight.

"Fuming" about a little activity in a tots gym class? Lighten up.

SaturdayGiraffe · 27/03/2023 16:28

To be fair I genuinely dislike seeing Ana punch Hans in the face. I don’t think it’s funny or a good response.
But Frozen is part of popular culture and it’s fair to assume he’d either be aware of the basic plot or ok with learning about it.

slowquickstep · 27/03/2023 16:30

Are you for real ?

Frozenprincess · 27/03/2023 16:37

I am for real and I am also amazed with the rudeness of the responses here, which by the way is much worse than Peppa’s behaviour.

We're not claiming to be suitable entertainment content for under 5s.

ImAGoodPerson · 27/03/2023 16:39

You have been pretty judgemental and snooty, it just gets people's backs up so they take the piss 🤷‍♀️

lailamaria · 27/03/2023 16:40

why because everyone has rightly said you're off your rocker to think there's anything inappropriate about bloody disney

Thinkbiglittleone · 27/03/2023 16:41

I think you are getting a bit of a rough ride, yes you are overreacting about a reference to a Disney film being made at your DSs gym class. It really isn't the end of the world and most 4/5 year olds know Frozen.

I do however understand you not letting your 3 year old watch Disney movies. I didn't let our DS watch Disney movies until he was about 4.5/5 He didn't ask to watch any, I didn't put him in front of any.
He was happy with bits of children's TV.

He knew the songs from Lion King well before we let him watch him as I liked to mess and dance to the soundtrack with him, so listening to the music is great, but yes at 2 years old, nursery rhymes and bits of TV are fine. If you want to though, yes the soundtracks are good to dance around to for little ones.

SpoonfulofArsnicMakesTheMedicineGoDown · 27/03/2023 16:41

Paw patrol has scarier bits than Frozen. I know my three year old is the most sensitive three year old in the world.

And paw patrol is ridiculously sexist. The only regular female character is pink and fawning.

Pepper pig is rude as hell.
Elsa is awesome. A strong female superhero who can blast ice and loves her family. What's not to love?

@AngryBirdsNoMore

I was only joking, too. Honestly. I found all the Bluey controversy hilarious.
