AIBU to worry this might kill me?

Ok, slightly dramatic title. I know it won't kill me but, as an emetophobe, I have concerns.

Cooked a roast turkey dinner yesterday. Popped left over turkey, veg & roast potatoes into a tub ready to go in the fridge once cooled. Totally forgot as didn't go back in the kitchen before I went to bed.

Did put in the fridge at 8am this morning when I realised I'd left it out over night.

Will this be safe to eat? Am I being ridiculous? Light hearted, please be kind.

I wouldn’t personally!

rubyslippers · 27/03/2023 13:20

Smell it! If it’s ok I would heat and cook very well

Aquamarine1029 · 27/03/2023 13:21

I would not eat poultry that has been left out overnight, and I am not someone who is paranoid about dates on food, etc. It's a shame but I'd be putting it in the bin.

Cryingovernothing · 27/03/2023 13:22

I'd eat it, especially if your kitchen is fairly cool overnight.

FrenchTrellis · 27/03/2023 13:23

If your house is as cold as mine overnight- the fridge is probably warmer than the kitchen- then it'll be fine. If you've had the heating on then I'd sniff and see. My DH would chuck it though

Cyanchicken · 27/03/2023 13:24

I eat food past sell by dates and red meat left out all the time but I wouldn't eat poultry left out!

Herbiebanannas · 27/03/2023 13:26

As long as reheated it will be absolutely fine.

In fact, eaten cold it would be fine

ZekeZeke · 27/03/2023 13:27

I would 100% eat it.

tara66 · 27/03/2023 13:32

I would unless your kitchen is over about 18 degrees Cent.

Tootsweets84 · 27/03/2023 13:32

I'd eat it. I regularly leave cooked food out (in tupperware) overnight as my fridge is tiny. My kitchen is cold though. As long as you cook it thoroughly before you eat it I can't see a problem. But then I also eat food past it's use by, including red meat and dairy, eat blue steak and don't wash fruit and veg and have never had food poisoning. I think people are over the top with food hygiene these days and it's probably why so many have such weak stomachs.

Itsbytheby · 27/03/2023 13:33

I would absolutely not eat it. I threw away a perfectly good lasagne that DH had put in the microwave (which his mum also apparently thinks is some kind of germ free storage facility). Cooking doesn't kill the bacteria that develop in meat.

Thepeopleversuswork · 27/03/2023 13:35

I think the chances of getting sick from it are fairly low. I probably wouldn't eat it because I'm a bit neurotic about food poisoning but my partner will happily eat stuff like this and has never been sick in his life.

Roo1808 · 27/03/2023 13:43

I wouldn’t but I’m also emetephobic and I am very (sometimes too) fussy where food is concerned

Of course cooking properly kills bacteria.

The concern is potential toxic byproducts produced by multiplying bacteria.

I wouldn't worry about overnight.

Well, that's ok then. As long as there's no bacteria, the toxic byproducts are just fine. Enjoy your turkey!

Pasadenadreaming · 27/03/2023 14:01

I personally wouldn't eat that and I'm generally fairly relaxed about these things!

Nopinnogin · 27/03/2023 14:03

I just ate corn that has been in a covered pot since yesterday. I will join you on the “am I going to get the squits bench”

KrisAkabusi · 27/03/2023 14:07

My mother never put the turkey in our tiny fridge after Christmas dinner, just though a towel over it until it was all eaten by the 27th. Never did any harm. I'd happily eat yours.

Oysterbabe · 27/03/2023 14:11

I've done this loads of times and would eat it.

clarepetal · 27/03/2023 14:12

Fellow emetaphobe. Just chuck it, not worth the stress x

Unhappyleprechaun · 27/03/2023 15:56

It depends on the house for me.
The cold house we lived in until September - yes I would eat it.
The new warm house we live in - I would think twice.

dryingontheradiatior · 27/03/2023 15:59

It'll be fine unless your house is boiling

Greensleevevssnotnose · 27/03/2023 16:12

Of course you can eat it!

RunningFromInsanity · 27/03/2023 16:17

Absolutely fine.
I often leave leftovers out, covered with a tea towel. None of us have ever been ill because of it.

cocksstrideintheevening · 27/03/2023 16:18

I wouldn't and am fairly blasé about other things, poultry is a no!
