AIBU to worry this might kill me?

Ok, slightly dramatic title. I know it won't kill me but, as an emetophobe, I have concerns.

Cooked a roast turkey dinner yesterday. Popped left over turkey, veg & roast potatoes into a tub ready to go in the fridge once cooled. Totally forgot as didn't go back in the kitchen before I went to bed.

Did put in the fridge at 8am this morning when I realised I'd left it out over night.

Will this be safe to eat? Am I being ridiculous? Light hearted, please be kind.

Yep, we go to bed so early we always leave left overs out to cool until they get put in the fridge/freezer the next morning before reheating in a dodgy work microwave several weeks later!

It's not killed any of us yet.

purpledalmation · 27/03/2023 20:53

I wouldnt risk it

MrMarkham · 27/03/2023 22:01

I think you'll survive OP. Sounded lovely!

piedbeauty · 27/03/2023 22:08

@SmallAngryPenguinWoman - it was a joke. 😂🙄😬 How relevant is the cold night? We all have central heating now.

LetsPlayShadowlands · 27/03/2023 22:27

I've eaten chicken pizza that's left out overnight loads of times, without reheating.

LittleMrsPerfect · 27/03/2023 22:44

I would eat it just make sure it’s really hot when reheating

Lcb123 · 27/03/2023 22:45

I do this all the time and never had any issues

BCfan · 27/03/2023 22:49

Bin.

You created a perfect breeding ground for bacteria all night. Not worth the risk.

ConfessionsOfAMumDramaQueen · 27/03/2023 22:56

I'd eat it, especially as our kitchen gets cold at night! What time yesterday did you make it? It being sat there since 12 noon is very different than from 8pm at night.

We often put food in slow cooker on the morning, eat around 8pm and turn the slow cooker off, the food is still rather hot in it when we go to bed so we just leave the lid on and put it in the fridge the next morning! Food is supposed to be fully cooled before putting in the fridge so it likely doesn't get cold enough until the middle of the night anyway. We've done this for years and not gotten food poisoning yet.

We've left other items out too accidentally. Most recently DH left some chicken on the stove last week overnight, we reheated and ate that and all was fine too!

piedbeauty · 28/03/2023 12:44

Are you still alive, op?

LadyJ2023 · 28/03/2023 13:13

Lol we are a household of 7 out of the fridge or in it all gets gobbled up and nobodies died yet haha..seriously all you have to do is heat it up properly

Daftasabroom · 28/03/2023 14:30

If it's been properly cooked through it will be fine.

Uncooked poultry can be rather nasty. Once cooked there should be no danger, if you've already eaten some on roast day and haven't been up all night what will have changed?

Feebeedeebee · 28/03/2023 16:17

Happy to report that I'm still alive and have suffered no ill effects! Smile

I don't know if someone said it up thread. The food most likely to give you food poisoning is rice.
Starchy foods, such as rice, are the most common sources of food affected. The toxin causes vomiting and nausea within 30 minutes to 6 hours after eating the contaminated food.10 Sept 2021

I would not eat poultry that has been left out overnight, and I am not someone who is paranoid about dates on food, etc. It's a shame but I'd be putting it in the bin.

I'm an emetophobe and I would eat as long as the kitchen was cold overnight, I would also ensure it was piping hot before eating. I can remember in the 80s my boyfriend;s mum would put the leftover Xmas turkey in the larder, and eat it over the next few days. None of them ever got sick
