To think that a three year jail sentence is unreasonable for the disabled pedestrian who was found guilty of causing the death of a cyclist

The Sunday Times and The Guardian carried this story earlier this month and again today, as did GB News. Link is below. I just find it unbelievable that so much relevant information about this lady’s disability was either ignored or dismissed by the judge, and that she didn’t have adequate representation at sentencing.

She's in prison where she rightfully belongs!

She's in prison where she rightfully belongs!

So you think that despite being partially blind, having cerebral palsy and cognitive and learning disabilities, she should be imprisoned for panicking at the sight of someone riding a bike in her impaired line of sight ? And you’re OK with relevant evidence being overlooked and ignored because the judge either didn’t understand the implications of her disability or didn’t care ?

She didn’t panic, she was a bad tempered woman who purposefully moved towards the cyclist while waving her arms and swearing aggressively at an elderly cyclist who was entitled to be cycling there.

FannyPhart · 26/03/2023 20:41

To think multiple threads about the same thing is unreasonable....

Boringcookingquestion · 26/03/2023 20:42

The news article says that whilst she is disabled, she has no ‘mental disorder or learning difficulties’, is this not the case?

Having a disability doesn’t automatically mean that you’re not accountable for your actions. Her aggressive behaviour caused someone’s death.

SunshineGeorgie · 26/03/2023 20:42

😂

QuintanaRoo · 26/03/2023 20:43

And her lawyer made no claim about learning difficulties that I’m aware of.

she even told the police in her interview that she made light contact with the cyclist. Watching the video it certainly looks like she did. So effectively pushed her into the road, infront of traffic and left her dying in the road. Trundled off to do her shopping.

QuillBill · 26/03/2023 20:43

She pushed a woman into the path of an oncoming car and killed her.

I thought the judge had said that she didn't have cognitive issues or a learning disability.

Tiq · 26/03/2023 20:43

The unreasonable part is that she gets only 3 years in jail.

Entitled to be cycling on the pavement ? Neither the police or the local council can find anything to support the judges’ assertion that it was a shared pavement.

I find it unbelievable that you find it unbelievable to be honest.

She moved towards the cyclist and pushed her under the wheels of a car! She says she pushed her. There is a video of her pushing her.

This. Yawn it is boring. I do wonder what the agenda is with all these threads about the case……

She will be HATING every minute of it

Even if she gets out on appeal ( months from now) she will have had a good chunk of the sentence served....and it will have sorted her problem with aggression

Bet she doesn't wave the officers or other inmates out of her way....lesson learned the hard way

Like the multitude of huge threads already on this, all of these points were addressed at the time of the court case.
She had a very experienced KC to defend her.

Haffiana · 26/03/2023 20:46

She lied to the police. This shows that she quite clearly understood right from wrong and understood that what she did was wrong and -as the judge put it - "what is appropriate or not".

This. Cold and callous and deserves more than 3 years in jail

You can't kill people for cycling on the pavement.

Threads not going quite as you hoped eh?

Oh well that makes it ok then. Naughty elderly cyclist on the pavement, obviously deserved to be pushed in front of a car 🙄

I've got the day off tomorrow so if you like I could come over and spend the day with you. If you do anything that may or may not be legal or that I find annoying I'll just murder you.

Then I'll go for some fish fingers and a tin of custard.

Ilovecrumpetseveryday · 26/03/2023 20:54

Yabu. Her disabilities don’t give her right to push someone in the road. You’re also forgetting the poor driver of the car that hit the cyclist, how traumatic for them. She’s ruined multiple lives.

MichelleScarn · 26/03/2023 20:55

I honestly don't understand the desperation to have sympathy for this woman! Her purposeful actions resulted in the death of another person!!

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2023 20:56

What for the Appeal and see what they say

I think the right choice was made but then I wasn’t in court will full evidence

WiddlinDiddlin · 26/03/2023 20:56

Here we go again...

She was aggressive and combative.

She pushed the woman off the path into the road where the poor lady died!

She then fucked off to do her shopping.

The path was to the cyclists knowledge, a shared use path and certainly wide enough for both.

Funnily enough she may have cerebral palsy and some sight issues but she also managed to stay on her feet whilst gesticulating at, and then could see well enough to hit, the moving cyclist without falling over herself.

She is guilty of manslaughter and she has got a pretty mild prison sentence for that crime.

mrsm43s · 26/03/2023 20:57

I think she got off very lightly tbh, bearing in mind that her deliberate actions caused someone's death. I would assume that the lightness of her sentence took her difficulties into account.
