North east England here.

Pretty much grey and drizzly since November. Went to garden centre yesterday with friend: had to come back inside because it was so cold. Staff were covering thr plants with fleece because of frost last night.

walk the dog 3x day….Hat, gloves, wellies on. Mud everywhere.

today sunny but frost on lawn. Then it’s back to grey and rain for rest of week.

not normally affected by weather but enough now!! Need some warmth and sun!!

SinnerBoy · 27/03/2023 07:18

I wouldn't mind it being a bit cooler where I am - the Timor Sea. The day I flew to Darwin it had been -4° overnight.

It's currently 33° and 90% humidity. Thank goodness we have air con on the bridge, the ones in the cabins are a bit feeble.

Fed up! Can never put a washing out because it rains four times a day.

Gave the grass its first cut of the year today and immediately afterwards I thought “I might have a coffee outside!” - by the time I’d tidied up it was pouring rain. 😡

On the upside, I'll bet your lawn smelled gorgeous 😍

schnubbins · 27/03/2023 07:53

Snowing here in Southern Germany.

larkstar · 27/03/2023 08:26

This is how the weather is making me feel right now after the weather forecast last night with another huge low pressure area swirling in from the Atlantic over the next 3-4 days.

I had to cover my camellia up last night with the frost due - I've had it 7 years and never seen a single flowery on it so I moved it last autumn from a sheltered, possibly overly dry spot from under other trees growing in my neighbours garden to a short spot and diligently watered it regularly - it's now covered in huge buds and I don't want some late frosts ruining everything.

Beautifully sunny in Glasgow this morning. But not warm

Same down south in Hertfordshire - sunny, beautiful blue sky, but still very cold. Some signs of spring though:

gannett · 27/03/2023 10:02

The sun is out but I just want to be warm again and it's not ticking that box

Peckhaminn · 27/03/2023 10:03

Utterly fed up OP!!!! Need some Vitamin D ASAP

I agree, I'm sick of the sight of my coat and boots. I want to wear sandals!!

MrsAvocet · 27/03/2023 10:33

We have had a few nice days but nothing consistent. It's gloriously today (NW England) but still very cold.
I've had pictures from a few years ago pop up on my Facebook memories in the last few days in which I have been in short sleeves, or riding my bike in shorts. No chance of that so far this year. I'm going out with thermals on today.
And we have had huge amounts of rain. We sail, and our boat usually gets lifted into the lake at about this time of year. Sometimes it gets delayed a bit because the water level isn't high enough. This year it's late because the lake is too full and the jetties are still under several inches of water. It's also been extremely windy all Winter and Spring so far. I'm ready for some better weather too!

larkstar · 27/03/2023 10:39

@MrsAvocet I ride my bike only 8 times last year - all rides 20-40 miles - so if I'm going out I want 2-4hrs of relatively nice weather - I love cycling - I live in a relatively nice area for cycling but the weather really hasn't been good enough to do that much. All in all, it was bad by that measure.

It's meant to be lighthearted dear so don't go getting your knickers in a twist.

There's nothing normal about our UK weather anyway. Its cold and by now we could have had some Spring days. Most are desperate for it after the Winter.

We've had some spring days.

This year is really not that unusual.

There's a lot of moaning for a "lighthearted" thread.

This year is unusually dry (see met office links further up thread).

But yes we have certainly had some spring days. I was out and about in just a shirt and a gilet the weekend before last. It was mild and sunny.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 27/03/2023 10:56

Why shouldn't we have a moan? God knows the temperature has to barely get into double figures before Mumsnet is flooded with people complaining about they simply can't bear this dreadful heat!

If you're moaning about not being able to wear sandals in March then I don't think you have a leg to stand on if other people complain about double figures.

Unrealistic expectations all round, frankly.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 27/03/2023 11:01

I will moan about whatever the hell I like, thank you very much.

And it's nearly April.

Neither March nor April are usually sandals weather in the UK.

Unrealistic expectations, as I said.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 27/03/2023 11:11

Hardly. This time last year I was out for Mother's Day lunch in a dress and sandals. Warmer (not hot, just warmer than this) weather is no more unusual for spring than wind and rain, we've just been unlucky.

And I'm going to continue to complain about it, because I've been cold since November, god damn it!

Last year was a fluke. It was unseasonably warm for Easter / mothers day. That was not normal weather for the UK. Last year was the warmest year on record for the UK. It wasn't average for the UK, it was record-breaking.

This year is more normal temperature wise, but we have had a very dry spring and we need rain. This is as per scientific data for the UK, not anecdotes and individual perceptions.

LakieLady · 27/03/2023 11:18

Today! At least in my part of Sussex.

It's lovely and sunny, and while it's not summer dress and sandals weather, I've just been out in the garden in a t-shirt and jeans, and was plenty warm enough.

Thankfully, the grass is still wet though, so I don't have to cut it.

Barold · 27/03/2023 11:40

Looks pretty Springy in London today! Admittedly, I haven't been outside yet so it might be chilly but I opened the shutters to a beautiful day.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 27/03/2023 11:41

What do you think you're going to achieve here, @Lockheart, over than coming across as deeply patronising? You not going to change my mind about finding cold, wet , grey weather miserable, and wanting to have a moan about - on a thread which is perfectly clear from the title is gong to be full of people bemoaning the lack of sun.

I don't follow the hot-boss on to their threads complaining about the few weeks of properly warm weather we get in this country. Instead I just hide them because I know they'll irritate me. Why don't you do the same?

MrsAvocet · 27/03/2023 11:53

This year is unusually dry (see met office links further up thread)
Nationally speaking, yes. But that doesn't negate people's personal experience of where they live. It has bloody poured down here all Winter and Spring so far, even more so than usual. A friend in our village has his own little weather station and he monitors rainfall, windspeed and so on and has 20 odd years of records. In our neck of the woods it has been wetter and windier than usual. The fields are waterlogged. After every episode of rainfall many end up like the attached pic taken across the road from me last week, because the they are never drying out. My farming friends are worried because it's limiting how much of their land they can turn livestock out into and grass growth is affected.
National figures for anything can never give a local picture and it definitely hasn't been unusual dry here. It's been a wet and miserable winter, it's not unreasonable to be getting a bit fed up of it now and I am looking forward to seeing some improvement.
