I'd buy a brand new Volvo 340 straight from the Volvo dealership

ohnoh · 26/03/2023 17:37

Meet my dad who died a few years later
hang out with David Bowie
Buy a house

Lifeomars · 26/03/2023 17:39

Enjoy my youth and my 24 inch waist and not fret about being "fat", I was tiny!

Notreadyformenopause · 26/03/2023 17:40

Climb to the top of the amazing HUGE slide that used to stand in the park when I was seven (1983) and scream at the Council not to pull it down!!

Wfhwannabe · 26/03/2023 17:41

I would absorb the ovum that was to become my older sister so that I could be an only child when I got fertilised in 1988.

Timeforachangeisitnot · 26/03/2023 17:41

@BadForBusiness I saw Bowie at Murrayfield, backed by the Thomson Twins and somebody else. It absolutely poured with rain and we were standing on the pitch. It was magic. Highlight of my then young life.

Give my Dad a hug x

Me too!

ItsHardknocklife · 26/03/2023 17:42

I wasn't born til 87 but I'd love a fag In the pub and to visit my nan, great grandad.

laloue · 26/03/2023 17:43

Tell someone my stepdad was abusing me, rather than believe him when he said he’d kill anyone I told. Bastard had a horrible death not long ago. Sorry, but he deserved it.

mibbelucieachwell · 26/03/2023 17:43

Ask my maths teacher to move me into the class that didn't start preparing for A level maths before we had sat O level maths. Study more for maths.

Hold out for a nicer boyfriend.

Read contemporary literature instead of the victorian authors I liked.

Be nicer to my lovely mum.

icanneverthinkofnc · 26/03/2023 17:44

Kick myself up the arse to do some work for my A ievels, ignore my mother's husband who told me I wasn't applying to uni.

LakieLady · 26/03/2023 17:44

Persuade my parents to buy their council house so that my DB and got some sort of inheritance when they died 23 & 24 years later.

Seymour5 · 26/03/2023 17:44

I wish I’d phoned my mother more often. And persuaded DH to take out critical illness cover. Tell my children they would have good careers, and fantastic kids!

KrasiTime · 26/03/2023 17:45

Great thread.

Buy houses & shares that would now be worth a mint. Do better in my resits, not my original A levels as I would never have met my amazing university friends who have been my bedrock for 40 years.

Most I’m importantly I’d tell my friend to be careful in the sea as the current was so strong. I miss her & it’s been 40 years.

I would tell S how much he means to us all. How loved he is, how we all would do anything to help him.
1983 would give us 3 years to prevent what was to happen.
I was a kid but 3 years later, life went down a black hole. Never would any of us recover. To this day, what happened is still an awful painful block of black shite.
To this day we still suffer as a family.
Suicide is just the pits.

There are some very sad posts, but this one is heartbreaking.

I'm so sorry @Bodybags . Suicide leaves a particular scar on the ones left behind.

💔

As a six year old but knowing what I know now? I'd never spend my school days excusing my younger sister's poor behaviour and life choices. In fact I'd have nothing to do with her. I'd insist on different schools and different clubs, and no I would not be taking her out with my only friends because she didn't have hers round to play. I'd also make sure my room had a lock to keep my brother out. I'd work much harder at school, and move out as soon as possible. Then maybe I'd have a life now?
It all sucks the more I look back on it.

No need to apologise. If he deserved it, he deserved it.

Too many absolute bar-stewards live long and happy lives while good people are taken.

Any child abuser deserves to rot in hell for all eternity.

Appleass · 26/03/2023 17:51

Train for social work or nurse

maranella · 26/03/2023 17:52

I'd go and have tea with my grandparents. God, writing that brings a tear my eye. I still miss them so much Sad

Rockingcloggs · 26/03/2023 17:54

Depends. If it's October 1983 then the first thing I'll do is be born!!

Toweringpin3 · 26/03/2023 17:55

Buy a house in London that would now be worth millions.

Just choked on my dinner!

PlateBilledDuckyPerson · 26/03/2023 17:57

Hastily publish a short story called 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'😀

Justalittlebitduckling · 26/03/2023 17:59

Find my DH as a baby and say hi.

Southeastlondonmum2 · 26/03/2023 18:00

I loved my 1983 year, aged 15/16. But I would so love to see my best friend from those days. Helen, are you are there? I miss you buddy.
