Not when it happens sometimes and not others

intolerance can work like that. It’s not an allergy that would affect you every time but with intolerance you can sometimes be fine eating it and sometimes not depending on other factors. You can also have mild ibs which is triggered by gluten/dairy/fat or something else. Your reaction can then depend on how inflamed your bowels are at the time of eating. Or it’s stress related. Basically, could be a lot of things but it’s unlikely to be food poisoning if it’s mild.

When we were young and foolish DH and I used to go to a burger restaurant in Newport (Gwent) despite the fact that it would give us mild food poisoning (single episode of violent vomiting, not protracted hell like norovirus) about one time in three. Even factoring that in, it was still the best available option, but that's Newport in the nineties for you.

LindorDoubleChoc · 26/03/2023 10:31

I wasn't aware of multiple cases of Pret killing people?

Of course I've heard about the case of the girl allergic to sesame who died on a plane and whose parents campaigned successfully to get food labelling laws changed.

But "multiple" cases?

pd339 · 26/03/2023 10:31

"Mild" food poisoning? Yeah right..

bellac11 · 26/03/2023 10:31

OP isnt coming back

She didnt have food poisoning.

She just guzzled her food and got a bit of a sicky icky tummy.

Pinkdelight3 · 26/03/2023 10:33

Never had any issue with Pret, baguettes or otherwise. Sounds like your system is sensitive to something even if it's hit and miss so better to avoid it.

Mirabai · 26/03/2023 10:34

I got food poisoning recently from a restaurant meal. I was projectile l vomiting for 2 days.

Mirabai · 26/03/2023 10:35

Eat Pret regularly, never had food poisoning.

Carpetmoth · 26/03/2023 10:36

My husband found that certain mayonnaises do it to him. Never used to but it started with Greggs then noticed it after a supermarket sandwich but not all places affect him in the same way. We did ask Greggs by email what mayonnaise to try to work it out but they use 'various suppliers'.

Honestly it's making me feel panicked just thinking about it. They wouldn't let me have any water and I was so desperately thirsty

Thats terrible I really would not have been able to stay sane in that situation.

JanesSadLittleLife · 26/03/2023 10:38

@ilovewispas same, I have to be careful with baguette style bread! Strange isn't it.

Not sure I've ever had any food from Pret but their coffee vanilla frappe is lush.

Try something harmless next time OP? Bottle of water?

Spkat · 26/03/2023 10:38

Do you only eat Pret food? How can you be sure it's not something else you ate, an intolerance or a bug?

Ktime · 26/03/2023 10:40

Try something harmless next time OP? Bottle of water?

🤣

ReneBumsWombats · 26/03/2023 10:41

Food intolerances don't always show themselves in exactly the same way every time, even in the same person.

loudbatperson · 26/03/2023 10:42

I eat from prey more often than I like to admit, and never have had an issue.

You don't really get "mild" food poisoning. It's more likely there is something that you are sensitive to. If you eat different things each time some could have a shared ingredient. Or its the overall load in your system from whatever you are sensitive to.

bruffin · 26/03/2023 10:20

Think Prets is the new MacDonald/gregss for MN to virtue signal about

What does that mean? Just venting your spleen over God knows what with gibberish. And as to the poster saying Pret is a rip-off. Do you understand what that means? Everyone know what they offer and what it costs. They don’t dupe you into thinking you’ll get one thing but then get another.

cathyandclare · 26/03/2023 10:43

DH thought he kept getting food poisoning at work dinners - turned out it was Crohn's disease.

HamstersAreMyLife · 26/03/2023 10:43

I had something similar at Pret years ago. Sometimes it was fine sometimes not. Couldn't work it out but turns out I'm intolerant to rocket (spelling?). Now I stick to their tuna baguette and I'm fine, it's generally not as obvious if I eat rocket from a supermarket which is why it took me YEARS to realise what was causing it but rocket from pret gives me an upset tum. I avoid completely now. It is probably something similar.

pncr · 26/03/2023 10:44

Have you reported it to environmental health and done a stool sample to confirm op? Because otherwise that's a pret-Ty libellous statement with no evidence.

MyAnacondaMight · 26/03/2023 10:44

Agree it’s you, not Pret. Probably a minor intolerance, exacerbated by the circumstances in which you’re going to Pret. E.g., if you’re on the move then the activity may be over stimulating your bowel.

I get a similar phenomenon whenever I visit my elderly relative. It’s not her kitchen hygiene - it happens when I bring food too - it’s her taste in fattier foods combined with the stress of the visit.

greenacrylicpaint · 26/03/2023 10:44

I had 'mild food poisoning' quite a bit until I realised I couldn't tolerate a specific ingredient.

start a food diary op

Paq · 26/03/2023 10:45

I vote for intolerance as well. What fillings are you having?

SallyWD · 26/03/2023 10:50

I've never had a problem with their baguettes. Maybe you have an I tolerance to one of their ingredients?

KickboxingWanker · 26/03/2023 10:54

I got Ill once after eating a Subway baguette about 5 years ago - vomiting for 2 days.
haven’t been able to face the thought of one since, it might have been a coincidence and it was a stomach bug - but I’m not going to risk it again, so I don’t understand why you’d go back repeatedly?

HRTQueen · 26/03/2023 10:55

I’ve had food poisoning from Pret crayfish and rocket sandwich

and returned but not for the same sandwich even though I had enjoyed it many times before

of course not all food poisoning makes you very unwell. I had really bad food poisoning from a very expensive restaurant and not so bad from street food in India and Thailand
