Law of attraction

Mooshamoo · 24/03/2023 19:27

I was just reading the books, "manifest" and "Ask and it is given" about using the law of attraction to get what you want in life.

Basically ,it says what we think about, we create.

And it suggests using vision boards, and journals and drawings etc to create things. For example writing out what you want to happen

Has anyone done it and had any success stories? I'd love to hear about them.

I think it can be a useful tool if you use the advice to become clear about what it is you want. Just knowing exactly what you want can help you to take steps towards achieving it rather than aimlessly drifting and feeling like things just happen to you.

For example if you're unhappy in your job then becoming clearer about what you feel would be a better match for you personally can help you to look for a job you would like and take action to achieve it. There's nothing mystical about that but I think it's often forgotten when people are fed up and unhappy and just decide they don't want what they currently have and then sometimes end up with much of the same just somewhere different.

My colleague had a Peter Andre vision board for years. She's still single.

That’s the Universe looking out for her 😉

Seriously. I concentrated so hard on something for about a week and then it appeared on the end of somebody's drive, brand new and free to a good home

Did you rub a magic lamp?

I know it sounds like horseshit but it seems to work for me so 🤷🏻‍♀️

No lamp involved!

It always annoys me a bit, this manifesting thing, when people say they got money/jobs/cars as a result of “manifesting” as it is always about something materialistic and selfish (I want stuff)

but on the other hand, I do think the mind is very powerful and can be trained when it comes to self esteem and self belief and positivity

and obviously, believing deeply that you deserve something helps you to achieve it

so there is some truth in it, and it’s something I have trained myself to do when it comes to small things like competitive sport, job interviews, difficult conversations etc

i have won matches just by mentally preparing really well (basically planning my approach, and visualising how it was going to go), I have also lost matches when I was too mentally exhausted from life’s worries to be able to get myself to care.

@MultipleVeganPies

It isn’t selfish though to want a big house or a big car. That’s only problematic when it interferes with things in your life that really matter. Those things just make life more comfortable and fun, nothing selfish about it.

Absolutely! I think people often believe that money is ‘evil’ and ‘selfish’ but money is just frequency and it’s what you do with it matters more. It’s ok to wish for more comfortable life for yourself and your family imo.

Chilloutsnow · 25/03/2023 09:02

@raspberryjuiceandpompoms

Yes. I had to undo that programming. My Nan was a strict Catholic who always told me money was the root of all evil. We did grow up in poverty and I guess I knew as a child I was poor. For me, unlearning that was vital for progression.

stinkfaceison · 25/03/2023 09:44

It's just a sense of entitlement really isn't it ? Asking the universe for things to fall into your laps ?

It's the love of money that is the root of all evil . People can do wicked things to get it

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 25/03/2023 16:31

I think there's some evidence it can work. I don't think it's woo I think it's the power of clearly thinking about what you want and that giving you a vision to focus on. Then you make it happen but believing something will happen makes it more likely.

Before someone ran the first 4 minute mile no one believed it could be done. They thought it was physically impossible. After it was done once, loads of people suddenly did it. The mental barrier of 'can't be done' was broken.

Chilloutsnow · 25/03/2023 19:02

@stinkfaceison

I still thinks it’s okay to love money. I know I love it. That doesn’t mean I destroy others or do bad things to obtain it. I’ve only ever received lots of money for the beneficial work I’ve done.

Heap of shite 😂

Yes indeedy, my exact sentiments. 😁

lazycats · 25/03/2023 19:23

I'm really interested in the topic. I think we do create our lives. What we believe we can get, we get. What we think about, we create. It's really interesting.

I suppose one person’s profundity is another person’s banality. The above is, to a point, just stating obvious.

JoanThursday1972 · 17/05/2023 14:05

I think about Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hardy all the time, and neither of them have messaged me or knocked on my door. Yet.

JoanThursday1972 · 17/05/2023 14:15

Following my somewhat flippant post above I do have some examples.

I was looking through some old books to throw out yesterday, and I found a notebook from 7 years ago when I was in a job I thought was boring me senseless and with useless managers who didn't explain anything and just sent memos and expected me to work out what to do from those. I wrote a list of characteristics of a new job. Specifics.

The hated job was a secondment cover (for someone who was on secondment). I hated the previous job so much I took a year long contract to get out. That person came back, and I got another job in the same place on the very day that the first one ended but with a gap. I did some agency work in the meantime where I was asked to stay, and I loved the work and the people, but I had committed and it would have involved commuting costs. But I took some things away with me from it.

I started the next job which was a maternity cover. It was OK, better than the original one with some opportunities to make changes. The maternity cover came back and threw tantrums and cried because I had given the team some autonomy to make decisions. Again I had nothing to go to. I found out about another short term cover in the same organisation different department that I could cover quickly, and the job was fantastic, I used long-buried skills and I was well liked but again the person was coming back. However ... exactly the same role popped up in another department and I was sort of headhunted for it. I went along for a chat and I was offered it the next day.

When I read the list I made, it has every single thing on my wish list. And it is permanent, and I earn £12K more than I did in the miserable cover job I started out with in this organisation.

Was that the universe or was it me that made it happen?

I was just thinking of some of the celebrities who said that they use the law of attraction. I remember conor McGregor (the MMA fighter) said that when he was unemployed and broke, he kept visualising himself being a world known successful fighter, worth millions. He did become that.

Yes, because he worked hard for it. All the "envisioning" is just part of the wok hard for it process, with a bit of luck thrown in.

snarkyrooster · 17/05/2023 14:21

@sn0wbun but by that same token you must have had a strong vision in your head of what you wanted to achieve! So, whilst you may have worked hard you can't say in your head you weren't thinking of where you eventually wanted to get or what you wanted to become.

OP I think it's a bit of both - you have to work at what you want to achieve but also believe in what you want. I do find if I am in a good mood things just happen pretty naturally and seem to come easier.

I do a lot of feng shui at home which I believe is great for LOA type stuff. E.g. put something in my career / wealth corner symbolic of what I want to achieve. Strangely the results seem to usually happen quickly and easily! I tend to do small stuff, as I have more belief in it happening. If you try for mad stuff then your mind is more resistant to it actually happening, so less likely to happen. Start small, see results, keep going to develop belief!!

SmashedApricot · 17/05/2023 23:30

The envisioning is actually determination to succeed .

Ihatepickingausername3 · 18/05/2023 00:24

Yes, combined with action.

KarmaStar · 18/05/2023 11:25

Hi op!yes it does.
Everything on this planet is energy.
Our thoughts are real things that are heard.
If you keep positive, follow the instructions in the book and wait and see.
It does not mean you write down you want to win the lottery and sit and wait for it to happen.😀
But be very careful what you wish for.
It may take weeks, months,a few years but it will definitely happen without a doubt.
This has worked for me several times.have faith, believe.🌈
