More Magazine- willy of the week?

Hmm, fellow Gen Xers, can you help? I have a vague memory of a magazine, possibly More, having a regular feature mocking an unusual looking penis. Seems unthinkable now but I'm pretty sure this actually happened rather than being some weird fever dream. Anyone remember?

I look back on that genre of magazines and can't help but think that they betrayed a generation of young, impressionable girls. Shame on those editors.

Some did for sure, I actually found some old copies of more recently and was impressed at the emphasis on female pleasure, career advice and a mixture of high end and cheaper clothes and beauty products. No mention of fad diets or oh look how fat x now is; others were horrific though. Generally nowadays young people having access to the Internet is far more harmful though.

More was definitely about female empowerment and IMO not at all problematic. Position of the week/fortnight was most definitely given a score for “her pleasure” and in the description it outlined why it was good for her (ie able to reach the g spot, good for manual stimulation) so even if the positions themselves were not particularly realistic, it taught a generation of women that sex if for THEIR pleasure.

Bloody loved More magazine when I was a teenager. It was one of the few magazines that didn’t patronise women and young girls.

Did position of the fortnight also come with a "difficulty" rating and a "satisfaction" rating, or did I imagine that

Born in 1976 and I was a More reader

Tried the wheelbarrow once and slipped and grazed my chin.

Yes, I think you're right 😁

Although, who was the person giving the position the "difficulty" "satisfaction" score?
Will they fess up now, or was it just made up?

ImAvingOops · 24/03/2023 11:35

Re Sexy Spice, I reckon Ginger would have lived that, but she's just not, so I can see why it didn't stick!

When I was about 16 Cosmo produced a supplement with about 500 photos of penises in it. Most were very ugly .

I remember this and it went in recycling and then my dad gave a pile of magazines to my Nan. Guess what Nan enjoyed reading...

The wheelbarrow! I don't think I'd have the core or arm strength to manage that one. My boyfriend at the time used to get FHM and that also had loads of random positions. I remember trying and failing to have a shag in a door frame once. Got all my best blow job tips from Cosmo.

Where do teens get random sex advice from now?!

FHM used to have a dead or asleep section. You had to guess which photo was of a dead person
Can you imagine that happening now?

If I recall they used to have the review done by a real couple, who were photographed. There was a bit for his views, a bit for hers, and an overall review.

The photo wasn’t of them doing the sexing.

Definitely later on, I was only born in 89 😂

Id say it was probably around the year 2000-2006?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/03/2023 12:09

Are you thinking of this one?

More Magazine- willy of the week?
ExtraOnions · 24/03/2023 12:12

I could swear there was a magazine called “For Women” which had pictures of naked men in … just me ????

Ah OK. Crikey it really progressed, didn't it? 😁

My mum has kept newspaper clippings of when I won a race in 95.
I wonder if thier mums have kept a clipping?

<aw, remember this. You and Simon were so well suited. You were so limber in those days and gave the Spead Eagle a go. Such wonderful memories. #proudmummymoments>

suzyscat · 24/03/2023 12:17

More would have been relegated to the top shelf if they were banging out full frontals.
Think it was all a dream!

My generation also didn’t have drawings of the positions; we had barbies posing.

Im all for sexual expression and freedom but I do think picturing young teen couples and depicting their sex lives was maybe a bit … well it lacked forward thinking. But maybe I’m jaded by growing up on the cusp of the “internet is forever” generation! (I think most of the couples were 18ish, whereas I was maybe 12-14 when reading it)

AlisonHalligan · 23/03/2023 22:36

Thanks. There definitely was a Willy one but maybe it wasn’t More. Sky?

Could have been Minx magazine, I miss that magazine 😕

Our schools sex education was VERY … modern for its time. I was at high school 2001-2006, for reference.

We watched the A-Z of Sex by C4 in maybe s3? So around age 14? There was a scene explaining blowjobs - using a fruit pastille ice lolly - and a cunnilingus scene with someone licking an ice cream. Also, masturbation with someone masturbating behind a steamed up shower screen. We also watched full frontal, camera between the legs, childbirth.

Wow what kind of school did you go to 😂 I was at secondary the same time and our sex ed class consisted of the elderly science teacher grappling a condom on to a large courgette and muttering “I can never get these things on,” whilst we stifled giggles!

ProtestantsHateAbba · 24/03/2023 12:37

Position of the fortnight definitely exist, as others have said. Did anyone ever try them out? I was quite young when I last read it and only just starting to have sex, which was awkward and clumsy. Ahh I miss More! magazine.

I don’t remember Willy of the fortnight.

Just an ordinary school 😂

Our drugs ed also involved real drugs being passed round. In sealed cases, for obvious reasons.

I loved Minx but it closed just a couple of issues after I found it. You're the first person I've ever heard read it too, which must be the reason it folded.

No i think i remember there being a lot of spin around it in the press, being the first pornographic mag for women. Or maybe i was imagining it.
