More Magazine- willy of the week?

Hmm, fellow Gen Xers, can you help? I have a vague memory of a magazine, possibly More, having a regular feature mocking an unusual looking penis. Seems unthinkable now but I'm pretty sure this actually happened rather than being some weird fever dream. Anyone remember?

I remember willy of the week but I'm not sure of the context

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 24/03/2023 09:10

Definitely do not recall willy of the week....thankfully. I do recall wanker of the week on the Girly Show though

Stressybetty · 24/03/2023 09:11

I remember either me or my sister left a more mag in the bathroom once, must have been reading it in the bath. Mum found it and was absolutely disgusted! Neither of us owned up to buying it, blamed a friend I think for giving it to my sister 😂

Todaynotalways · 24/03/2023 09:18

My (really very nice but socially incompetent) father used to write his own responses to the agony aunt questions, he'd write them in block cap, red biro.

Mortifying.

OoooohMatron · 24/03/2023 09:21

No, I'd definitely remember that! There was position of the fortnight. Very

Johnnyripples · 24/03/2023 09:21

"rings a bell"

"in the same vein"

😂😂😂

OoooohMatron · 24/03/2023 09:22

Very hilarious when you're 14!

Was she?! I’m 33 and remember her as ginger spice.

Yep exactly- as soon as they launched she was Ginger Spice, literally no one used the 'Sexy Spice' moniker. But this was in a paid for promotional piece, introducing them and their nicknames

BakedTattie · 24/03/2023 09:23

Maybe on eurotrash? 😂

eyerings · 24/03/2023 09:27

Well I don't know about you SEXUALLY REPRESSED lot but I have sex in the wheelbarrow position three times a day. If we do it in the garden I can trim the edges with my teeth at the same time.

EdgeOfACoin · 24/03/2023 09:29

NewWoman makes more sense.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have had penises in a teenage magazine. I seem to remember that Bliss (think it was Bliss) once gave away a free condom with every copy and it came under fire for that.

HoneyPotBee · 24/03/2023 09:40

back when Geri Halliwell was to be known as 'Sexy Spice'

I remember her being known as Sexy Spice too. No one else ever does. There was even an MTV special that referred to her as Sexy Spice. It was different times but I guess that was a step too far even back then.

RancidOldHag · 24/03/2023 09:42

I can't remember which magazine it was, but in the late 70s/early 80s, there was one with a column by Dr David Delvin which went through several sexual "....of the Week" incarnations. I remember when 'function' morphed into 'dysfunction' and I'm pretty sure there was 'position' as well

Shows how often magazines recycle ideas!!

Pretty sure that was She magazine which was quite frank about sex. I read it avidly (as I did all magazines then!)

kungfupannda · 24/03/2023 09:46

Oh god I can still picture the wheelbarrow position illustration. It's clearly scared an entire generation!

kungfupannda · 24/03/2023 09:46

Scarred. Not scared. Although maybe that too!

HaudYerWheestFella · 24/03/2023 09:57

This may be outing but the thread has brought back memories.....When I was in Sixth Form (so 2009-2011), I ripped out the position of the fortnight page from More magazine each week and put them into a folder and made my very own Karma Sutra I suppose! All the girls at sixth form loved More and I would be the one who bought it and passed it round. I think I still have the folder of all the positions somewhere and even decorated the front with the word 'Sex' all over it cutting out the letters from the magazine and sticking them on the front of the folder.....hilarious....ill see if i can dig it out later and post a photo of it

LethargeMarg · 24/03/2023 09:58

I remember the wheelbarrow too. The irony is that all those adventurous positions are usually actually pretty rubbish for all involved and I would also add most magazines were read by readers generally a few years under target group - eg just 17 was read by me aged 12/13 - so I don't think many of the readers (hopefully) really needed this info!!
Also remember the just 17 problem page had very detailed answers to questions like how to give a blow job that I read at a far too young age.
I definitely got a lot more sex education from these mags than I ever did at school

ClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 24/03/2023 10:05

Did position of the fortnight also come with a "difficulty" rating and a "satisfaction" rating, or did I imagine that

Born in 1976 and I was a More reader

Tried the wheelbarrow once and slipped and grazed my chin.

NKFell · 24/03/2023 10:06

I feel like I would have remembered Willy of the Week, I would have loved it. I went into an arty bookshop once to buy 'The Male Nude' when I was about 13 just so I could look at penises 😂I even had a backstory, ya'know, in case I was quizzed by the bookseller 🙄

Just like a PP said, I too thought Position of the Fortnight or whatever it was, was just how people had sex.

Siameasy · 24/03/2023 10:17

I remember Geri being Sexy Spice and they must’ve been onto something as she was always the one the blokes I knew fancied.
More! was considered risqué in my peer group (born mid-70s) and you might hide it from your parents

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 24/03/2023 10:19

More was definitely a Gen X thing first.

It came out in the 80s and was where you went when you felt to old for Just 17 but weren't quite old enough for Cosmopolitan.

I remember position of the fortnight and "sexy spice" definitely not willy of the week though.

The wheelbarrow! I don't think I'd have the core or arm strength to manage that one. My boyfriend at the time used to get FHM and that also had loads of random positions. I remember trying and failing to have a shag in a door frame once. Got all my best blow job tips from Cosmo.

Our schools sex education was VERY … modern for its time. I was at high school 2001-2006, for reference.

We watched the A-Z of Sex by C4 in maybe s3? So around age 14? There was a scene explaining blowjobs - using a fruit pastille ice lolly - and a cunnilingus scene with someone licking an ice cream. Also, masturbation with someone masturbating behind a steamed up shower screen. We also watched full frontal, camera between the legs, childbirth.
