Because I've felt a bit rotten today with an upset stomach. Now I keep having really stingy pains on my skin on my stomach and side. Like little sharp wasp stings! No rash to be seen.

I had a feeling like my skin was super sensitive to the touch, nothing to see. Then my glands swelled up and I had sore groin with lumps. That went on for a few days then I noticed some small red spots on my skin. By the time I went to the GP it was too late for any treatment and I just had to wait for it to go away, seems like a mild case, the rash was only about 8 spots.

Blueberrycreampie · 23/03/2023 20:53

Sounds as if it could be? I had a strange pain on my back for a couple of days first. Please contact your go as you will need anti viral meds!

BashfulClam · 23/03/2023 21:19

Mine started with the wurst sore throat I had ever had and I was a regular tonsillitis sufferer. It came in really quickly at around lunchtime and was awful when I got home from work. A few days later I had a black/purple rash down my tummy and hip that felt like nestle rash. I had no idea what it was. The moment to GP asked ‘have you had chicken pox?’ I realised it was Shingles . The stinging sensation sounds similar.

I had shingles around my knee. My skin started off feeling like I'd been attacked by a cheese grater at first, but that stopped after a few days and then my knee became incredibly painful. The spots appeared a couple of days after that and by the time I made a GP appointment it was too late for me to get any treatment. Christ, it was sore ☹️.

Hope you feel better soon 💐

TheEverdelightfulsamantha · 23/03/2023 21:29

Yes, sounds like it - I had what felt like really bad stingy insect bites on my upper chest, no blisters for quite a few days…

Fridaysgirl17 · 23/03/2023 21:31

I felt super run down kind of like I was coming down with a flu, then I got the rash,it went from my shoulder down the middle of my back to the opposite hip,I was too late for medication so had to just tough it out,I was miserable & the pain was very different I felt very hot to the touch & itchy which was hard as I couldn't scratch as that was very sore, just a heads up I found Aloe Vera straight from the fridge was great to cool it down & loose tops 😃

I had shingles of the optic nerve. Really awful pain, comparable with childbirth. The rash came later, but at the start it felt like tiny electric shocks in my eye.

Pinkpinkpuff · 23/03/2023 21:41

My daughter had a pain in her armpit two days before her shingles appeared on her back.

she said it was like a stinging sensation.

Hesma · 23/03/2023 21:41

Go to docs, apparently if you can in first 3 days meds work better. I am week 3 of it now, no rash for the first week and I thought I’d trapped a nerve in my shoulder. It’s been awful. Get yourself meds asap

Clarich007 · 23/03/2023 21:48

I had shingles 7 years ago. It started as a completely numb patch of skin on my back sort of under my bra.
That lasted a couple of days, then was replaced by a really sore sensation, stinging and prickly. Next day i found the rash. I rang the out of hours as it was on a Sunday, and had an appointment within an hour. I was given antivirals immediately. But, it was still the most painful thing I have ever experienced, and went on for weeks. Our doctor gave me painkillers for nerve pain. Good luck

ilovesooty · 23/03/2023 21:52

No. I paid to be vaccinated because I really don't want to get it.

wobblychairleg · 23/03/2023 21:54

I started with a mild numb feeling on one side of my face, then the ear on that side went quite deaf, I felt really ill. A few days later little blisters came on the side of my face and inside my ear. Then I twigged! Hot footed to GP but was too late for antivirals. So if you have the least suspicion, contact GP at once, and ask for a prescription. They need to be given quite early. Sending sympathy!!

cocksstrideintheevening · 23/03/2023 21:55

Yep, it's awful. I don't have a rah as such I was so sensitive and in so much pain, couldn't wear a bra, has two weeks off sick from work. Had amatripaline which helped a little

I know, I didn't realise you could get it anywhere other than your torso. Typical me, nothing's ever straightforward!

LakieLady · 23/03/2023 22:06

Had it a few times after having chicken pox in my late 30s. It was bloody painful, really sore and stinging.

I got it around my middle, from my hip at the front to halfway round my back. I was prescribed Zovirax for it.

TheMatriarchy · 23/03/2023 22:08

I had shingles on my vulva, yes it was horrendous. The rash went around my upper thigh on one side. Started with aching pains down my leg and complete exhaustion.

WonderingWanda · 23/03/2023 22:11

I had it on my face and in my mouth, it was so painful, I lost about a stone in weight through not being able to eat.

Yeah I have had shingles twice on my upper body I got them. Sounds like it might be the start of them.as soon as a rash appears go to the Drs/pharmacy they will give you anti virals

I can't imagine how painful that would be !

RustyBear · 23/03/2023 22:23

I have it on my face, scalp and ear at the moment - I’m about two weeks in and though most of the rash has faded and the blisters have gone, my ear is still very painful, my scalp is sensitive and my right eye is swollen between my eyebrow and eyelid.
It started with a red rash on Friday night, but because it was the weekend I couldn’t get a doctor’s appointment. After a lot of palaver involving 111, econsult, three different pharmacists and a paramedic, I eventually ended up in A&E, but not until Tuesday night. The doctor there said usually they wouldn’t give antivirals more than 72 hours after it started, but in my case they would because I’m over 50 and because it was near the eye. I’ve now had my eye checked and luckily the optic nerve isn’t affected.
You need to be careful around anyone who hasn’t had chickenpox, as they can get that from you if they come into contact with the blisters. I haven’t been able to see my 7 week old granddaughter since it started😢

Mrsjayy · 23/03/2023 22:42

My last bout was 6ish years ago I had the nerve pain for weeks after the rash went.

staciea31 · 23/03/2023 22:46
