To hate it when people do this at concerts

I went to a concert last week. I was lucky enough to be close to the front and was having a fab time. The only thing that ruined it was a woman in front of me who was filming the concert on her phone but who kept turning her phone round to film the crowd. Over and over again. I dont want to be filmed and see my sweaty face on some amateur YouTube video at some point. It just makes me feel self conscious. This happened last year too at another concert so it seems to be a bit of (a very annoying) thing.

Anyone else with me?

Better phones than tablets but my god yes I agree with you.

JMSA · 23/03/2023 17:52

Rage inducing! YANBU.

TitInATrance · 23/03/2023 17:52

I don’t care if my face is out there, but I hate not being able to see the performance because the phones are blocking my view.

Selfishness right out there in the open.

sunisbetterthanrain · 23/03/2023 20:25

YANBU
I'll never understand why people want to film an entire concert! Just enjoy it for goodness sake

bert3400 · 23/03/2023 20:29

Completely agree, why the fuck do they have film everything 😡. I was lucky enough to see Kate Bush a few years ago and she banned all phones - if you were caught you were evicted from the concert. It was fantastic...every artist should stipulate this .

That sound perfect. It is shit to go to a concert and just see a sea of brightly lit screens in front of you. And let's be honest, the video and sound quality will be shit.

Brefugee · 23/03/2023 20:58

i don't mind people filming a few clips of the band now and again, but if i spend the whole gig (clue: i don't) having to watch via someone's Samsung i tend to get very close and sing very loudly and badly. And then i tell them to fuck off and get behind me.

TheHoover · 23/03/2023 20:59

I am WITH YOU.
was at a gig on Tuesday. Parents with 2x teenagers. Mum spent the ENTIRE gig either filming the band or backing up (into me) to take photos of the kids. Fucking Instawanker nearly got a pint of beer on her head

Yeah, they don't like me singing either. And you better believe I know all the words, phone wanker.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 23/03/2023 21:03

Fucking annoying, I'm with you OP.

Even more annoying are the idiots who turn up to festivals / outdoor concerts with fucking umbrellas. Just put your fucking hood up. Tossers.

TheHoover · 23/03/2023 21:05

Don’t get me started on the flags at glastonbury

ExtraOnions · 23/03/2023 21:06

No idea why people want to film gigs, pay all that money to put a screen between yourself & the action. Most videos are grainy & shaky … and who is it for anyway ??? To prove to people you were there ? Who sits down and watches shaky concert footage on their phone ?

Shunkleisshiny · 23/03/2023 21:08

Why can't these people live in the moment?

So frustrating. Like others have said. Live in the moment. Kate Bush definitely had the right idea. Which concert were you at on Tues?

It was so much better when phones were banned from music venues……

My DH started to film me dancing when we were at a concert recently. I immediately, very firmly pushed his phone away and gave him short shrift. it really spoiled the moment for me.
I have no desire to perform for the camera and he made me feel immediately self-conscious and like I couldn’t just relax and immerse myself in the music, if there was a risk it would be shown to people at a later date.
I was doing very middle aged bopping, but happily so……… I’m comfortable to dance in front of him at a concert. But not to be filmed doing so - it’s never a good look for anyone!

Yes!! Umbrellas should not be used in places with crowds. Idiots.

I went to a concert in LA last year. Managed to get towards the front at the side of the stage. In front of me was a big ish guy.
every minute he’d alternate between two phones and a tablet to film, and used his left hand stretched out so it was directly in front of my face. There was nowhere I could go to escape this at this point as the venue was heaving

By song three I was pretty pissed off with him and tapped him on the shoulder. I asked if he could perhaps use his devices in front of himself rather than me as he was completely blocking my view.
to be fair to him he did have the grace to look embarrassed and her did then continue with it obscuring his own view rather than mine.

It was a shared headliner gig so by the time the next band came on he moved off and started to chat up a clearly disinterested woman behind me, meaning I managed to take his prized front row spot for the band I really wanted to see anyway so worked out well in the end.

i go to a lot of gigs in the UK and although phone use is common it’s nothing like it was at that gig. So many iPads etc from the first note. I don’t know whether that’s indicative of the whole USA but certainly that night every other person was filming.

How selfish can you get?! Good on you for saying something

Hate it. Really don't understand why people who do this even bother to go to a gig. They're not really "there". Just feels like they go to record it for clout. What a waste of money and a ticket that a real fan could have had.

I recently went to an immersive experience where they give you a bag to put your phone in and then lock it so that you can't take pictures. Wish they'd do this at gigs too.

Exactly. She must have had so much footage she is never going to listen again. I took 2 photos and then lived in the moment for the rest

I agree with you but what pisses me off more is at a festival if a girl sits on a guy's shoulders so that nobody standing behind them can see anything.

Yes I agree about people filming most of the concert. I take a few photos at the most because I have paid to see the concert.
I also hate primary age kids on the shoulders of their Mum's and Dad's. Cool parents forcing bored too young kids to be interested in their music and no one behind who actually is interested in watching the concert can see a fucking thing.

Izzabellasasperella · 26/03/2023 17:44

I hate the groups of people who all hold hands and worm their way to the front. One person squeezing past ok but 20! That pisses me off.
