i live down the road from a school and during the school rush parents park everywhere it normally worse in the afternoon at 3pm

I work from home and usually park in the visitor pay outside my house so my partner can park on the driveway he gets home 3.30-4pm

however recently people have been parking on my driveway last week I caught someone pulling in knocked on their window and they argued with me saying they need to pick up their child eventually they did move but moved to where they were just half way blocking my drive way and halfway blocking my neighbor so no one could access it!

I didn’t bother confront them again but in future I’m just thinking to block them in… is that too petty

I have reported it to the school but all they’ve said is they’ve already asked parents not to block residents in so I’m not sure what else to do.

(if I did block anyone in it would only be for 30 minutes to cause a bit of stress and a lesson learned)

I'd say I was gobsmacked by the CFery of parking on someone's actual drive, but yesterday I saw a parent literally park in the middle of the road outside school, because there were already cars parked up on both curbs. Just stopped the car, engine off, waiting for their kid. Queue of traffic behind them backed up to the T-junction, beeping. Those of us on foot just agog. After another driver spent a while explaining why they couldn't do what they were doing, they angrily moved their car up across the pavement and half in someone's drive to allow cars to pass.

People are weird.

I'd advise penguin bollards per PP, or a gate. But they'll probably just park fully on the pavement outside instead. Infuriating!

They are not weird they are incredibly fucking lazy. Most schools you could park a short walk away quite legally and safely, but ask some people to walk a bit? Moi? Couldn't possible!
It's the same as people who bump up on pavements around residential streets as God forbid they have to walk 10 or 20 metres to their house or to visit a friend/family.....Where I live people park right on a junction, granted its not clear as the council really need to up date the paint work but it's on a bend, so really fucking dangerous.
It's ultimately selfishness and laziness.

Re OP Not sure I'd block them in as doubt Police would be on your side, I'd just block my own drive way and move it later, I'm afraid. Also tell them and then contact Police if they continue to ignore (take photos which will be date stamped). A sign may also deter....

"Sadly parking on your drive is totally legal" ???

Where from did you get this TOTAL NONSENSE?

Fence or no fence, it's still someone's private property.

Is that what you say to yourself when you park on other people's private property, whenever it suits you?

It's a civil matter so you'd have to instruct a solicitor. Police and traffic wardens have no powers in this circumstance.

Makes no difference whatsoever whether it's criminal or civil matter - it's still illegal, no ifs, no buts, no maybes! Last time I checked, there is no "right to roam" with your vehicle on other people's private property.
Police and traffic wardens would also "have no authority" if you get a delivery of few tons of bricks that block the way out ...

Whether something is criminal or a civil matter makes a world of difference. If it is civil, you have to pursue it yourself through potentially costly court process. If it is criminal then you have recourse to the authorities. I believe that is what the poster you quoted was referring to.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/04/2023 07:03

I think I'd be tempted to pop a car tyre once the driver walked away (each and every time). 😏🤭🤫

pfftt · 28/04/2023 07:30

Put a few bits of wood with nails poking up in the drive. If anyone says anything, say you are building a bird bath.

Rosula · 28/04/2023 07:50

I highly recoamend going further up the chain of command at the school, potentially addressing the school board/superintendent if necessary.

We don't have those in the UK. School governors and proprietors have fuck all authority over how people park around the school, all they can do is ask.

If happens again and yes I know you have cameras

But take a pic and give registration to school office

There is nothing like being named and Shamed in the weekly school letter !!

That only works if the school wants to get fined for a data protection breach.

Posting a photo of a car reg is not breaching data protection. We expose our car reg daily every time we go out

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/04/2023 09:10

The school can hide number plate if need be or part of it

But our school letter shows the make and model of a car that parks badly /unsafely at every pick up

Started off with please park considerately to this who live near the school

Then don't block in driveways

Then pic the 3rd time

Post the actual legislation that says its illegal to park in someone's driveway in the UK.

We'll all wait......💀

Comefromaway · 28/04/2023 12:47

Parking without authorisation on private land is a civil matter. The police won't get involved. However it is still trespassing but most car owners would have moved by the time you can do anything about that.

DownNative · 28/04/2023 13:03

It's only technically trespassing and certainly not illegal in a criminal sense.

Comefromaway · 28/04/2023 13:07

Yes, it's like when travellers set up on private land. It takes days/weeks to get an injunction to move them by which time someone simply parked on your drive would be well gone.

trisfreya · 28/04/2023 14:19

Dutch1e · 23/03/2023 11:02

Yes I'd block them in but I also wouldn't hog a visitor's bay when I'm not a visitor. If that spot had been free the CF might have had somewhere to park.

Collecting kids from school is also not "visiting" is it?

But I'm the person you replied to!

Penguinmouse · 25/11/2023 07:08

If you were going to move your car to block someone in, why don’t you just move your car onto your drive for the school run and then back to the visitor bay after when all the other cars have gone

Mothership4two · 25/11/2023 11:00

OP's final update way back in April:

sorry quite a boring update, I’ve since installed cameras on my drive and house but it hasn’t happened since I posted this!

so for now problem solved.
