i live down the road from a school and during the school rush parents park everywhere it normally worse in the afternoon at 3pm

I work from home and usually park in the visitor pay outside my house so my partner can park on the driveway he gets home 3.30-4pm

however recently people have been parking on my driveway last week I caught someone pulling in knocked on their window and they argued with me saying they need to pick up their child eventually they did move but moved to where they were just half way blocking my drive way and halfway blocking my neighbor so no one could access it!

I didn’t bother confront them again but in future I’m just thinking to block them in… is that too petty

I have reported it to the school but all they’ve said is they’ve already asked parents not to block residents in so I’m not sure what else to do.

(if I did block anyone in it would only be for 30 minutes to cause a bit of stress and a lesson learned)

Missing the point but do on you need two cars in your household if you work from home anyway?

Careful!

You cannot question care ownership! 😁

ored · 23/03/2023 16:47

You tried talking to them and they didn't listen so go ahead they will learn another way

NashvilleQueen · 23/03/2023 16:47

Whilst they are absolutely 100% being unreasonable and totally CF's parking on your actual drive I also think that you parking on the road leaving an empty drive when you know parking is at a premium at that time is a bit of a weird think to do.

Blinky21 · 23/03/2023 16:48

I used to live next to a school, never again, our drive was always blocked, I'd definitely block them in. In the long term could you get some of those security bars that go at the end of the drive?

HappinesDependsOnYou · 23/03/2023 16:50

My old neighbour left nails in the parking space when parents did this. People stopped parking there pretty quickly

@Itsneverwhatitseems

Actually, fewer working hours would do the economy the world of good

Fine by me providing I get the same money!

ItsCalledAConversation · 23/03/2023 16:54

At our school it’s a linear village so everyone has to park along the one road. If you’re late, you have the furthest to walk. APART FROM the two families who think they’re above it (or can’t read well enough to comprehend school emails) who park on the zig zags with their hazards on and block traffic in both directions while scrolling on their phones. Face tattoos are a commonality between most members of said families. Yes, I’m judging. I wouldn’t be if it wasn’t for the selfishness of the parking!

And you'd get bricks through your window?

You don’t own the visitor bay though do you? Is it actually on your deeds as yours?

Most people stand around chatting for a good 30minutes.
How did the school get them to go

From what I remember I think it was a mixture of reminders in the school letters and the queue of parents waiting for their spaces. It was a small car park and road parking, if they were at the back of the car park and didn’t move fast they would get blocked in by the later parents. She said it worked fairly well but as always there were a couple of parents who thought it didn’t apply to them who could ruin it for all.

The road outside my house isn’t mine but I still park on it, I don’t see the difference?

Ladyofthelake53 · 23/03/2023 17:05

The absolute bare faced cheek and entitlement of some people, unbelievable. I dont get parking on my drive but people block it all the time even if theres a car parked in it. People couldnt give a fuck as long as they are ok

QuertyGirl · 23/03/2023 14:02

How is that my problem?

You pollute, take up and make the spaces where my family lives, more dangerous.

You expect people like us to put up with that so you can live where you want and do the job you want?

Surely as an architect you're aware of how well planned environments and a good sense of "place" contribute to both the wellbeing of individuals and society at large?

Plenty of towns and cities have massively restricted urban car use- they still have heart surgeons and architects. In fact, those places often have better heath outcomes and healthier economies than we do.

Do you know what is unhealthy? Your obsessive hatred of people driving cars. It's actually boring

WandaWonder · 23/03/2023 10:51

Bur by blocking can you be fined? Is it not technically breaking a road rule?

Yes we can say it is your own driveway but I still think it's illegal?

If so stick a note on I am not sure what the school can do

Your own driveway is private property. They shouldn’t be parked there at all, so if you block them in it’s their own fault - nothing to do with the rules of the road.

Block them in and then go out a nice long walk

This

Embarrassment and inconvenience is an easy cure.

Tough shit to them.

If they want to be aggressive about it, fabulous. Stay calm and let them kick off. Gives you a reason to call the police.

Ladyofthelake53 · 23/03/2023 17:09

Is this for real....wtf....their problem dont park on someone elses drive ffs unbelievable

Some are, as you say, depends on whether it’s marked on the deeds as included with the house.

Good one!

That's superficially funny - but in reality school has no authority and no sanction. I went to a school evening where the Head made a heartfelt and impassioned plea for parents not to use the small residential street outside for parking but rather to use the very close main road. As we were leaving I was nearly run down by a Mum driving whilst texting on her phone who had only one working light on her car- she had just set off from her space on the small residential road, having left the same meeting - the Head and the School can't deal with stupid self-obsessed people

idonttalkaboutthat · 23/03/2023 12:04

@TheChoiceIsYours

Visitor bays are for all visitors. School drop off included

That rather depends on the development in which the Visitor Parking space is located surely? There are a number of development round me that are on private roads, ie not adopted by the council, and that have Visitor Parking spaces which are definitely not for school drop-off because the school is not on the private road. The spaces are for those visiting people who live in those developments. There are also not for the permanent use of residents! None of us know the situation in the OPs area though, but it’s misleading to claim that visitor spaces are always for all visitors.

You need to ne vstegul because if you park in front of your drive you may be commiting a parking offence ie if its a dropped curb and the person who is on your driveway can arrange to have your car towed at your expense they ate trespassing but it's a civil matter not criminal

So you’re suggesting that someone can park on your driveway (trespass) and then have you towed for parking in front of your own driveway on a dropped pavement ? I agree that the law states if there is a car on the driveway then you can’t park on a dropped pavement, but I don’t think you’d find anyone in authority to enforce it after finding out that the person parked there wasn’t the home owner, but some CF parked on private property without permission !!

I have successfully had someone moved at school run time. I’m in a wheelchair and came home to find someone parked across my driveway. Drove up and explained I had to get into my drive to get the wheelchair out as it wasn’t safe to do so on the road, and they still refused to move. I drove round the side roads as there’s usually one or two PCSO’s patrolling at afternoon school run. Got one to have a word and the car was moved pronto - never came back. Can’t believe the entitlement of some people - if she’d backed up to let me onto the drive I’d have been quite happy for her to move back once I was in, but she was rude and stubborn, so I had no problem having her moved on. Why do parents think they are above the law and can do as they please at school run, no matter the consequences to anyone else ? It’s baffling.
