i live down the road from a school and during the school rush parents park everywhere it normally worse in the afternoon at 3pm

I work from home and usually park in the visitor pay outside my house so my partner can park on the driveway he gets home 3.30-4pm

however recently people have been parking on my driveway last week I caught someone pulling in knocked on their window and they argued with me saying they need to pick up their child eventually they did move but moved to where they were just half way blocking my drive way and halfway blocking my neighbor so no one could access it!

I didn’t bother confront them again but in future I’m just thinking to block them in… is that too petty

I have reported it to the school but all they’ve said is they’ve already asked parents not to block residents in so I’m not sure what else to do.

(if I did block anyone in it would only be for 30 minutes to cause a bit of stress and a lesson learned)

It's probably quite stressful and annoying for them that there is absolutely nowhere else left to park other than outside your house at that moment

I remember having to pick up DD from nursery then DS from school it was a logistical nightmare and very stressful finding places to park as I couldn't get there any earlier

If there are spaces nearby within easy normal walking distance then by all means block them in

But if not then there's no point blocking them in is there as it's out if everyone's hands

@Applepiesmum Get on to the council and the school about having a School Street. They're designed to stop things like this happening. School Street

Put a chain across your drive. Do you have a dropped kerb?

So you used to dump your car on people's drives?

@TheChoiceIsYours

Visitor bays are for all visitors. School drop off included

Of course they're not. They belong to the housing estate usually. We have visitors parking for our flats. The car park is private land belonging to the flats. Our service charge pays for the upkeep.

YANBU. The house I grew up in was next to a school and the amount of people who parked on and over my parents driveway was nuts, my mum got so fed up one time she had a car towed as the car was there waaay past school pick up...word got out and the parking on and over the drive soon stopped!

fitzwilliamdarcy · 23/03/2023 16:11

@Ireallydohope Your post does read like you think it’s ok for mums to park on people’s property as long as they have jobs or can’t park on the street. That’s really entitled.

OK, what do you suggest I do? I don't have a long commute as I live 4 miles from my office but I work in an area with poor public transport and the two routes I could cycle aren't safe - a lonely unlit towpath or a badly lit busy, winding road with no footpath.

I think we should all go and live with QuertyGirl and work fewer hours. Because the economy really needs the entire population to all reduce their hours.

BlueDressGreenShoes · 23/03/2023 16:14

Doooo iiiiiit!

My son goes to school in a small village and we have to drive as too far to walk, as do many other families.

If you'll excuse my language a lot of the parents park like utter twats and it drives me bonkers. Blocking pavements, blocking other cars in, parking on corners, etc. Luckily no drives to block nearby but I wouldn't put it past the worst of them. The school frequently puts reminders in the newsletter but some people are just almighty cocks and think they're more important than everyone else.

Oh and idling engines too. All the fucking time. Right by where small kids are walking. Why?!

Please do block them in OP and teach the cheeky fuckers a lesson. Lazy sods.

Someone here did say eventually someone would admit to this.
Cant believe not only did they admit to it but they tried to justify it too. 🤯🤯

That reminds me of a parent ( school nearby, rural area ) letting their kid pee up against my outbuilding after driving down my drive, because he needed somewhere private 😳

A friend’s school ended up implementing different pick up times. Infants at 3.15 and juniors at 3.30 because of the parking issue. If you had both ages you picked up at 3.30. She said it worked well as long as the first group picked up and went and the second group didn’t arrive early.

Mumof1hopingfor2nd · 23/03/2023 16:21

You need to ne vstegul because if you park in front of your drive you may be commiting a parking offence ie if its a dropped curb and the person who is on your driveway can arrange to have your car towed at your expense they ate trespassing but it's a civil matter not criminal

Most people stand around chatting for a good 30minutes.
How did the school get them to go

I would just park over your drive so no one can park there at school run time.

No point in this..

person 1 parks on their own drive
Person 2 - parks over the drive if no spaces and once school run is done - park in a space.

No need to 'hog a space' - to stop others using it -

School parents are very CF's to use your drive - in that case I would block them in.

BillyNotQuiteNoMates · 23/03/2023 16:27

Get a group of strong friends to come round and pick up and turn any cars on your driveway sideways!

pookiebottom · 23/03/2023 16:30

@Applepiesmum why are you contacting the school? What do you expect them to do about it?

pookiebottom · 23/03/2023 16:31

drpet49 · 23/03/2023 10:51

The entitlement, how dare someone park on your driveway. That is outrageous. I’d block them and also shame them on local Facebook groups.

Then you'd probably end up with a brick through your living room window after a few days.

AdoraBell · 23/03/2023 16:35

I would move your car before the school run and park in front of your drive. Leave it there all day and move it when DP gets home.

Or do the £5 for ten minutes sign as suggested.

TwirlyGalaxy · 23/03/2023 16:38

God the parking wars at my children's school are like this, I feel sorry for the houses opposite. There's PCSOs now back and forth because the parking situation has become bloody dangerous (one driver drove over someone's foot trying to park get in a space first). Worst part is there is sufficient parking you just have to walk 5 mins from your car to the school, but nope people would rather block driveways/ park on zig zags instead.

I'd park my car across my driveway to deter people from parking there, I don't care how late I am for pick up you can't just park on someone's property, the entitlement.

England😂🤣

QuertyGirl · 23/03/2023 16:43

@Itsneverwhatitseems

Actually, fewer working hours would do the economy the world of good

Squamata · 23/03/2023 16:43

Missing the point but do on you need two cars in your household if you work from home anyway?

pookiebottom · 23/03/2023 16:44

This is England 😂
