I'm in a deep sleep.
Cosy, warm, happy.
I hear a clicking sound.
CLICK! CLACK! CLICK! CLACK!
I rouse from my sleep.
Panicked, worried.
I look around.
The lamp is dimly lit.
There's a child standing over me.
He's smiling.
CLICK! CLACK! CLICK!

It's my 3yo waking me up at 4am with some castanets he's found in his toy box in his bedroom. But don't worry, he runs out and gets a maraca so I can join him in his noise making.
Gosh, I'm tired!
Anyone else got some little ones that refuse to sleep till an acceptable time?
Between 4am and 5am is normal in this house, but the castanets are new today.

😂😂😂 nooooooo. Not the 4am castanets

Alliolly · 23/03/2023 05:00

My 4yo is usually a good sleeper. Not today.

Today he woke up at 4am - well rested, thirsty and hungry apparently 🤷🏻‍♀️ He's currently sitting in my bed eating toast and apples while I'm shushing at the stirring baby and keeping all my fingers and toes crossed at least she stays asleep

@TheWitchersWife There are worse instruments to be woken with I guess 😅😂

My almost 2.5yo DS is going through another period of rough sleep after a couple of months of decent sleep. This last 2 weeks I’ve had split nights with 3 hour wakes 😬 and very early rises! Yesterday morning he shouted on me (still contained in a cot lol) and when I walked into his room (4.10am) he informed me that it was daytime so he needed to get up and have a banana. He didn’t want to eat it yet though - just hold it while I read him every book he owns 🙈

This is normal toddler up time

But don't worry, you will get your own back when they are teens

moleeye · 23/03/2023 05:23

My 4 year old got up at 430am to give me a cuddle and ask to come in my bed

He's now fallen asleep, snoring his head off with his knees shoved in my back and his arm on my head....his dad has already grumbled about the lack of sleep but he is also now snoring in the bed

I need to get up in 30 mins....

bert3400 · 23/03/2023 05:28

That is funny and OP, several years ago my DS then 3 set up his play organ and microphone at the end of our bed ... 4am renditions of fuck knows was blasted out.

@TheWitchersWife your child sounds so adorable, I almost want to join in the band

Moredarkchocolateplease · 23/03/2023 05:47

I now have teens. And I also have HRT which has given me back sleep I lost pre children.

And then the fecking labrador woke me up at 2am because he is too scared to push the study door open (which was ajar) because he wanted to change his bed and sleep on the study armchair.

So I had to get up and push it open for him and then give him permission to get on the armchair!!!!!

TheWitchersWife · 23/03/2023 05:52

My 3yo is my 2nd child. So unfortunately I am very used to the very early wake ups. But I normally get one of them sliding in bed with me for a cuddle, the castanets was a new one this morning 🤣

🤣🤣🤣 That sounds adorable!

When dd was almost 2 she woke me up in the middle of the night by standing over the bed (floor bed) and loudly eating an apple. She'd also found my long necklace and was wearing it around her neck. We added a bolt onto the inside of our bedroom door after that so she couldn't escape again!

I also woke up one morning to find ds6 asleep on the couch with ddog who looked highly unimpressed with his new bedmate.
