What isn’t essential from this list?

I’ve had a request to only pack the essential things in my child’s nursery bag because they have said that there’s too much in there - I pack a set of spare clothes, nappies and wipes because not fully toilet trained, drinks for the day, hat and gloves if it’s cold and then their coat if they aren’t wearing it as they go in.

What can I actually remove from this bag that isn’t essential because I’m genuinely confused right now…

Don't they get drinks provided? Other than that I can't think of anything. Ask them to clarify.

PlateBilledDuckyPerson · 22/03/2023 18:45

I think you're best off asking them - nothing leaps out from your list.

Rainbowqueeen · 22/03/2023 18:48

I’d say drinks as they should be providing and gloves (depending where you are located).
How many nappies do you put in? Maybe reduce that amount and include a smaller pack of wipes

wheresmyomega3 · 22/03/2023 18:48

ask them? what’s your AIBU?

Frosty1000 · 22/03/2023 18:49

Maybe ditch the drinks as water will always be available. I'd say have coat separate on a peg as well. Otherwise it looks ok to me.

yogaretreat · 22/03/2023 18:49

I probably wouldn't bother with hat and gloves as not sure the staff would have time to put gloves on, unless it's actually freezing!

MichaelAndEagle · 22/03/2023 18:50

Was it definitely not a general message for all parents?

Overthebow · 22/03/2023 18:50

Drinks? Do they not have water she can have there?

Curiosity101 · 22/03/2023 18:50

I also agree that you should ask them for specifics.

My 3.5 year old goes with exactly what you described. Except no nappies/wipes (toilet trained) and just 1 drinks bottle.

StopitSarah · 22/03/2023 18:50

Unless you’re in the far north, hat and gloves are definitely unnecessary. Also “drinks”. Surely the nursery provides water?

yogaretreat · 22/03/2023 18:50

Also I'd assume they just get water at nursery to drink?

BabychamGlass · 22/03/2023 18:51

Ditch the hat & gloves and have the child wear the coat.

Drop the drinks unless nursery stipulate they should be provided. And I guess, look at what (if anything) regularly comes back unused.

GoldZip · 22/03/2023 18:51

Not sure about drinks. Is he having them?

Coat separately to go on hook.

Okunevo · 22/03/2023 18:52

Hat and gloves, I'd say only necessary when it's below 5 degrees. Coat shouldn't be needed much longer.

mynameiscalypso · 22/03/2023 18:52

Can they keep nappies and wipes there? I don't pack them for DS every day, just leave a pack with them. I also don't provide any food or drinks. DS has a bag on his peg with a spare set of clothes that live at nursery and then he just wears his coat.

Okunevo · 22/03/2023 18:53

By drinks, do you mean water bottles? Can't they refill the one bottle?

liveforsummer · 22/03/2023 18:53

Drinks (plural) don't sound necessary. Coat should be carried in if not worn I guess.

DanceMonster · 22/03/2023 18:54

Was it just aimed at you or was it a general message? Also won’t one water bottle do? They can refill it.

OhHeyBabe · 22/03/2023 18:57

They should go in wearing their coat and hat & gloves if cold in the morning. Otherwise leave the hat/gloves at home. 1 water bottle, 1 full set of spare clothes and the nappies and wipes. I'd be clarifying with them if they asked you specifically. Otherwise I'd ignore as probably aimed at other parents

SingleMumofOne95 · 22/03/2023 18:57

It was a message just for us, regarding the drinks she only drinks certain drinks so I send them in for her but she does have a bottle for water that she keeps there but good point about the hats and gloves - I’ll take them out!

If they are wearing nappies then ditch the spare clothes or ditch the nappies and keep the spare clothes, surely both aren't needed? Most schools and nursery's have some spares in case of emergency.

Ditch the goves and get some on a string to thread through the coat.

Bit weird of them to request this, is the bag too small so it's all falling out or is it taking up too much space? Do they expect your dc to get stuff out of the bag?

OhHeyBabe · 22/03/2023 19:02

You can't remove nappies and wipes unless you pay for those within your fees so yours are unnecessary?

Clarify if she needs a drinks bottle. Maybe nursery provide all water/milk.

Spare clothes are obviously necessary for messy or water play/accidents so have 1 full set.

Coat is also obviously necessary.

Is the bag huge and too big for what you actually need to put in?

SingleMumofOne95 · 22/03/2023 19:05

She doesn’t like it when her clothes get wet or muddy etc and has sensory issues hence the spare clothes as before they sent her home in clothes that weren’t appropriate (think shorts and socks in freezing cold weather).

Nappies and wipes aren’t provided and she only drinks certain drinks. The bag is a normal size and everything fits in nicely, but it’s literally a case of leaving the bag on her peg all day so it’s not like someone is having to carry it around etc. I think I might ask them to keep the stuff there and if they say no because of space etc then I’ll just keep the bag as it is

liveforsummer · 22/03/2023 19:06

Can you leave a bill of the drinks there rather than squeeze some in her bag every day?
