AIBU to think it is almost harder to try and do some housework and keep the place reasonably clean with teenagers lolling all over the place during the holidays, than it was when they were babies/toddlers?? I have been to work for a few hours this morning come home to find them all lying around the lounge and bedrooms, beds scruffily made, butter and cups scattered round the kitchen worktops and loads more general mess. They have done a few bits to help but i really want them to GO OUT!!!

i think when they are small you expect to clean up after them so you dont mind as much

loopylou6 · 12/02/2008 14:07

make them clean their own mess, like dmo said, its your job to clean up after them when thye are little, but now they are old enough to clean for themselves, give em a good kick up the backside

dmo · 12/02/2008 14:25

my boys are 10 and 11 and you need to give them set jobs

10yr old: makes own bed, hoovers bedroom 2 times a week, puts own ironing away, puts own washing in wash bin, sweeps front of the house once a week.

11yr old: makes own bed, emptys dishwasher every morning, puts own ironing away, puts own washing in wash bin.

also they both baby wipe the sink after bushing their teeth and baby wipe the toliet if needs be

blossomsmine · 12/02/2008 14:30

Mmmmm....yes....i do see what you mean, they do clean up but i am afraid it is not like MY cleaning up......It isn't that so much anyway, its like when they are little they will all sit and watch cbeebies or something but this lot just mooch about from room to room i want ONE room that is empty and no one in the way...i want too much don't i??
I managed to get one to go somewhere a minute ago and as she shut the front door another one came in the back door LEAVE ME ALONE

Blossomshine, know EXACTLY how you feel.

Yes, they may have jobs, and yes they may help out, BUT unless you have teenagers you cannot know that they never do anything properly, and seem to create clutter and mess just by existing. They are much much harder work than toddlers IMO.

As for mooching from one room to another...know that feeling, and the fact that they NEVER go anywhere unless forced out, as of course they prefer to sit around making a mess !

juuule · 12/02/2008 15:00

Don't you think that once they get past a certain age/size then they are what makes the place look messy

fizzbuzz · 12/02/2008 15:20

Absolutely. We want to sell our house. They are all being farmed out when prospective buyers look round.

We'd never sell it with them making it look a tip

blossomsmine · 12/02/2008 23:25

Oh i am SOOOOOOOOOO glad you know how i feel, i am heaving a sigh of relief that i am not alone feeling this!!!!! You are quite right it is them that make the place look untidy.....!! When we sold our last place everytime i had someone to view i made them all go round their grandparents!! Also you know they just stuff or hide things away when they are made to tidy their rooms, they are just hiding the rubbish
Also, i just don't want to hear the music channel on sky blasting out all the time or neighbours or i don't want to have cleaned the kitchen to find two of them raiding the fridge and making sandwiches.........thanks for letting me moan
Oh and one last thing, the youngest one keeps bringing an extra one round to sleepover....yeah right...really need an extra teenager in the house

Send em up a chimney...

fizzbuzz · 13/02/2008 11:43

Oh God, we have millions overnight, drives me insane.

Why do they come to our house and not their mates?

blossomsmine · 14/02/2008 23:09

at fizzbuzz having millions of extra teenagers! I managed to get rid of all the extra kids tonight! I put my foot down and it has been quite nice and quiet!!!
I tell you what gets me aswell, just a small thing, when they sit on the sofas they move all the cushions and just LEAVE them scattered everywhere, on the floor on the top of the sofa, balancing on the side table....just squashed where ever they fancy....now i know that is not a major crime..............but it drives me MAD.

OP posts:
fizzbuzz · 15/02/2008 20:26

Oh Yeah, cushion heaps, loads of those. Except when they take them all for their mates to sleep on, and then leave them mouldering in their rooms for ever.

Other annoying habits.
Leaving piles of change and bus tickets everywhere, along with all detritus (sp) of their pockets, sweet wrappers etc.
Leaving chocolate bar wrappers everywhere except in bin
"clearing up" and leaving, crumbs, cutlery glasses, salt etc everywhere
Stuffing the bin until it explodes (but never emptying it)
Leaving cans of empty pop/shoes/bags/homework/dvd's/memory sticks/ /coats/hoodies/books/magazines/pe stuff all over the place and then accuse you of losing them
Empty cereal boxes in the cupboard.

have totally wound myself up now!

I also have an 18 month old dd. She is a piece of cake compared to them
