He thinks there’s spirits in the house

Recently we’ve had everything go wrong in the house…lots of things…washing machine nearly blew up, television has needed repairing twice, lights going, fuses going, internet not working, things breaking etc etc.
It has been really strange, but Dh said to me this morning that it’s said it’s a sign of spirits causing havoc, I’ve heard this too but have never taken it seriously. Dh isn’t normally like this, feeling quite freaked out now
Is this a true thing 🤷🏻‍♀️
Aibu to wish he hadn’t said this?

*There are spirits in the house

We've got an old bottle of unopened vodka under the stairs

IneedcoffeeinanIV · 19/03/2023 22:16

Buy some sage asap.

Kidding, but I had a weird thing last week. The doors in my house are all wooden and do occasionally creak or open if it's windy except the front room door, that could only open if it's physically opened.

Last weekend the kids were away with grandparents and the living room door shot open twice within 20 minutes. Freaked me out so bad, just felt uncomfortable.

Praying your house is just a bit broken and not haunted (praying for that for myself too 😊)

CheeseMeltCracker · 19/03/2023 22:17

Sounds like the house needs re-wiring. I can be a bit woo and that comment would freak me out. I’m sorry all this has happened to you! Is it just the two of you?

Kerfuffler · 19/03/2023 22:17

Get your electrics checked.

EmmaEmerald · 19/03/2023 22:17

OP, in my experience, one thing goes wrong and then you get a few more domestics going wrong.

sorry coffee but your door story has weirded me out.

Uurrjb · 19/03/2023 22:19

New fuse box or complete rewiring

but these things always come in bundles (house/car disasters=huge expense)

Honestly it was terrifying. First time it happened I made DP go round the house with me as I was certain someone must have broken in. Second time I just curled up into a ball and tried not to cry. My friend says her friend has a 'ghost' and someone's visits other people she knows so just tell him to go away and he will. No harm so said 'Go away' and it hasn't happened since Hmm

Todaywasagoodday · 19/03/2023 22:27

I say it’s electrics too, but he said it’s not 🤷🏻‍♀️I think it’s just a coincidence and it’s true that things like that always seem to go wrong at once. He thinks it’s a close family member of his, but why would they be wanting to cause us all this money and stress 🙈

Try an electrician before getting an exorcist. Seriously.

Grumpyunleashed · 19/03/2023 22:43

@Todaywasagoodday

From personal experience I have had lesser version of a similar sounding issue a few years ago. Oddly I did not contact an exorcist.
Basically whilst having some electrical work done they told me that there was too much power being supplied to my home & that if left uncorrected it could cause all sorts of electric malfunctions & blow outs. The electrician told us that they cannot by law touch the power supply for my home beyond the house consumer unit & that it was a power supply company issue.

I contacted my electricity supplier. They referred me to the electrical network company whose lines carry the actual electricity into my home. They attended promptly and checked the levels of electricity being piped into our home at the nearby transformer unit. Apparently the settings were fractionally wrong thus feeding an imbalanced supply. The attending engineer rebalanced the settings at no charge to us and we have never had a reoccurrence of the issue.

Perhaps this will help.

MonumentalLentil · 19/03/2023 22:44

I often had a plumber round to fix various pipes, taps etc. He always had a cup of tea and we would stand either end of the kitchen. If he ever stood the end by the hot water dispenser it would stop working the next day.
I kept replacing them, and after 3 or 4 I changed plumbers and it stopped happening.
It was weird.
I now have circuit breakers in the sockets just in case.

MonumentalLentil · 19/03/2023 22:48

As a matter of interest, do you know the history of the house/plot?
It might make you feel better as suggested above, to use sage. Or open the windows and light a white candle and and ask the spirit to leave. (In each room).

Also get the electrics checked but just cover all bases.

IncessantNameChanger · 19/03/2023 22:53

I have lots of strange things happen in our house. Our ex tennants me it was haunted 100%. I find acknowledging the weird stuff out loud helps. We talk about it openly ( not in front of young kids but acknowledged everything they see and hear). And that makes it calm down. Whether that's because talking is logical or we acknowledge our 'tennant' I don't know. No one feels scared. That's the main thing. I suspect our wiring is a bit shot but it's been recently signed off. Doesn't explain my 15 year old hearing someone jumping on My bed or my ten year seeing someone but as long as I still this is happy welcoming space it's OK. It sounds mad as I don't belive much in woo, but I have always talked to my house.

IncessantNameChanger · 19/03/2023 22:55

Our house is built on chapel grounds btw. I must ask my neighbours if they experience anything.

Drakmo · 19/03/2023 22:57

Electricity is the same as ghosts really.

You can't see it but it can kill you.

AffIt · 19/03/2023 22:58

As PPs have said, please get an experienced and qualified electrician to look at your internal wiring ASAP.

Unlike ghosts, electricity both exists and can kill you.

Of course you haven’t got ‘spirits’, OP. You’ve got electrical issues.

How does he know it’s not the electrics if he hasn’t had them checked? Is he saying this because he’s too stingy to get an electrician round? I mean if Great Uncle Cedric wanted to communicate with you, surely there are better things to say than “I’m breaking your telly and washing machine you bastards. Take that”.
Come on, just get an electrical check. Electrical faults are dangerous and you don’t want to be fannying around wittering on about spirits until there’s a house fire or someone gets an electric shock.

Todaywasagoodday · 19/03/2023 23:20

It’s not just electrical things though, it’s all sorts breaking

Everything you listed in your OP is electrical. Surely it’s more likely you need a rewire than that your house is infested with malevolent ghosts fucking with your appliances?

Todaywasagoodday · 19/03/2023 23:20

Yeah but the electrics is the one that could kill you. Just get them checked out FGS.

Tourmalines · 19/03/2023 23:36

not sure what you want to hear , seems like your husband is convincing you of spirits . Well , not in my book . That’s a whole load of humble jumble nonsense.

Todaywasagoodday · 19/03/2023 23:20

Everything in your OP except “things breaking” is electrical. But you seem determined to go along with your husband’s nonsense about spirits. It really would be very foolish not to get the electrics checked for your safety, but it’s your choice. Just keep paying for new TVs then.
Does DH have an explanation for why his dead relative is trying to communicate with him by impersonating an electrical fault?

mumda · 20/03/2023 00:16

Get an electrician in .
