To think Mother’s Day is commercialised bulls**t?

I just don’t get it. I realise mothers want to feel valued and appreciated, but this focus on this one day, the ‘hallmark’ quality of it all, is just so off putting. I think of all the women who are despairing in their struggle to become mothers, and those who have lost their own mother, and I just think the whole thing is pretty tacky. A bit like Valentines day.

and I’m a mother and my mother is around etc

The saddest thing I find about Mother's Day is how it highlights just how shit and thoughtless a lot of women's husband/partner are and why i'm glad to be single.

Lots of threads already this morning from disappointed women saying how crap their partner is for not doing anything and how they've had to basically arrange their own day. It's utterly depressing.

Totally agree. Same category as Valentine's Day for me. Effort like this should be throughout the year, not just one day 🤷🏼‍♀️

Best of both worlds here… love and recognition and effort throughout the year, then ‘extra’ on Mother’s Day (and Valentine’s Day) 😊

Gosh. I always think a card and a bunch of flowers to thank one's mother once a year is just respectful and decent. I thought it was traditionally the first Sunday when the weather was good enough for young people working away from home to get back there to see their parents.
