Is he asking me on a date?

Hi all! In need of a bit of advise and a bit embarrassed to ask real life friends about this.

so was working with this guy for maybe 6-9 months (entirely remote, never met in person but would chat on teams)

he quit a month ago and at the same time he quit he added me on social media. We've chatted a few times on social media since then, and he's said a few times he misses talking to me at work

anyway, was having a conversation yesterday and he sent a message that said "so, when are you going to invite me out for a drink"

os he asking me on a date? Or asking me to ask him on a date lol or would you assume he just wants to catch up purely platonic?

sorry this sounds so teenage but I've been out the game for a while so could use some advise!

I would say he definitely wants a date.
Do you?

NeverTalksToStrangers2 · 18/03/2023 19:13

Yes. He wants to go out with you.

MissingMoominMamma · 18/03/2023 19:15

If you want to go out with him, reply, ”I was going to ask you the same thing 😉.”

Then please come back and tell us how your date went! 😃

ItsHitTheFanNow · 18/03/2023 19:17

Definitely a date. Hope you like him that way!

Ksisusbshau · 18/03/2023 19:17

Okay thank you l, I was worrying that I was being big headed assuming it was a date and not just a friendly catch up!

He wants to go on a date, but is prompting you to ask.. i'd jokingly throw it back to him if you want to go, but dont want to be the one to ask i.e 'would you say yes' / 'you ask first' type thing

BayandBlonde · 18/03/2023 19:19

Date or friendly catch up doesn't matter. Go, have a fab time and update us afterwards Smile

Bookridden · 18/03/2023 19:43

OP, how did you respond in the end?

This, definitely this! I imagine it'd be a date but if you're keen then it's an excuse for a nice time if nothing else! Good luck!

Newusernameaug · 18/03/2023 19:55

Yea he’s asking…. But personally I’d find that a massive turn off! I’d want someone to ask me out, not ask me to ask them out?!

Ksisusbshau · 18/03/2023 20:08

So I went back and basically said "I wasn't aware I was meant to be asking you for a drink" in a cheeky kind of tone and he came back and said he did want to take me out so watch this space!

Oh I love it!!

Yes, sounds like he's dropping a huge hint and testing the ice. It's a bit odd to respond hours later though to this....if I liked him I'd be responding with "Ow, drinks! LWhat did you have in mind?" If he wants to ask you out see that he does.
