financially capable but choose to live with family, friends or girlfriends until they kick him out, why would anybody want this life.

but he’s got a nice car expensive clothes but wouldn’t buy or rent and uses all excuses in the book. This is my ex boyfriend, he’s on £80000 a year. Any one dealt with this kind of person

No experience but he sounds like a freeloading knob!

onepieceoflollipop · 18/03/2023 18:04

I had an ex who was a little like this. He was much less wealthy tbh. Officially he lodged with a friend but he would stay wherever the circumstances were more favourable. E.g. my house where he would guilt trip me into having the heating and fire on full, pay for all food, do his laundry. I was young and naive.

i guess if you are not officially living somewhere, tedious things like housework and maintenance and clearing up after yourself don’t have to trouble you much.

Kassiopeia · 18/03/2023 18:10

I notice you said 'ex'.

Could he be commitment-phobic, even to the point of not committing to a rental contract or mortgage?

Just what is he doing with his £80K?

premicrois · 18/03/2023 18:12

What kind of dealing are you having with him? He is your ex!

JamSandle · 18/03/2023 18:13

Well if he wants to why not?

sunglassesonthetable · 18/03/2023 20:08

Well if he wants to why not?

You KNOW this is unusual. Have you ever met anyone like this?

OP needs input. Chocolate Teapot comes to mind.

To be fair, that is the input. OP is his ex girlfriend, so she doesnt need to be bothered by it now, hes not trying to live with her

Its fairly unusual but dependent on age, some people really are drifters, they cant settle, they dont want to sign up to contracts, loans, leases etc (mind you one assumes he did that to get cars etc)

sunglassesonthetable · 18/03/2023 20:18

He's her Ex so she can't think about his unusual situation and ponder it?

Tbh I find that irrelevant.

Never heard of anyone who maintains a lifestyle in that way.

AmyJahabee · 18/03/2023 23:03

He’s my ex I dumped him one of the reasons of his unstableness and he would happily want to live in my house and when we fall out he would go to his mum.by the time we break up his mum doesn’t want him in the house, and now he is living with his friend. I couldn’t get my head round why he wouldn’t commit to rent or buy. At the end I realise he was using me for a place to stay.

I ask as I have never come across people with this behaviour

So, what is the AIBU?

LakeTiticaca · 18/03/2023 23:31

Does he make any financial contributions to the people he dosses with?
If not he'll eventually run out of mugs to feed and house him and might even start dipping into his 80k salary!!

Annoyingwurringnoise · 18/03/2023 23:41

He does it because he can. The main thing here is that he’s an ex. Well done for getting rid.

ShagratandGorbag4ever · 19/03/2023 00:01

Disappointed. I thought this was going to be about cybernomads living in camper vans.

Kpo58 · 19/03/2023 00:01

Maybe he does it so he doesn't have to pay for rent/mortgage, council tax, electric, water, gas, house insurance, maintenance, repairs, etc?

XenoBitch · 19/03/2023 00:04

He must have an address registered somewhere.. for this £80k salary to go into.

😆😆 Must be the wine but I found this hilarious. Admittedly I was half expecting it to be the latest family on Ben Fogles Life in the Wild programme

Drakmo · 19/03/2023 00:13

Sounds like Ted Bundy
