To want to shut off downstairs toilet

Daisydu · 18/03/2023 10:07

It’s next to the kitchen. You have to walk through the kitchen to get to it. I hate it. I’ve tried telling everyone in the house it’s not to be used for no2s because I think it’s bloody gross. But the kids don’t always listen and quite frankly I just don’t want it there anymore. We have a perfectly good bathroom upstairs. 9 people in our house though which does make me question in a bit. We’re renting so can’t get rid of it altogether but we also have zero storage in this house so we could use it for that. What do you guys think? Would I be silly to just shut it off? Honestly the fact it’s next to the kitchen winds me up

Lol I'm sure the cat will be ok

It does sound tough when the loo opens onto kitchen but you definitely need 2 loos.

OhmygodDont · 18/03/2023 14:17

Since when did a cat being outside for 2 hours a day become an issue smh.

People are bonkers.

Yes he needs to go out at certain times because he’s an absolute pain and jumps up at the kids eating their tea ect, so yup he has to go out at times. He’s always in for the night time. Also besides the annoying cat… having the window open on the ground floor is probably also a security issue I would think.

Sounds like you should rehome the cat, he's obviously unwelcome.

Yes tell me about it… 🙄I’m horrible, I’m mistreating him. Im Honestly the worst kind of person. Because a couple times a day he goes outside for a bit so he isn’t jumping up at the kids food. (He’s currently been in all day sat next to the fire loving life) he hasn’t pestered the kids today so he hasn’t had to go out. But yeah he’s so mistreated.

OMG the pearl clutching about a cat left outside hahaha, whats wrong with people its a pet not a baby.
Mine is out for hours, often all night, no cat flap so if hes out when we leave the house he stays out. No issue!

I want to but dh loves him. So do the kids. I don’t hate him, but I find him irritating and just an added stress I don’t need, but I know dh would be gutted to rehome him so he’s gonna stay and put up with being cruelly mistreated when I pop him outside for an hour or 2. I knew, dreadful

People managed for years with 9 people 1 toilet. This toilet per person is a relatively new phenomenon

In the age of chamber pots yes people managed. Do you really think the OP wod be happy eith that as a solution?

OP just get over yourself. It's a toilet, that's what it's for.

Yeah I think that’s what I’m gonna do… I need to get over it and I shall do. With some of the advice on here I’ll have to just get on with it. It’s a minor inconvenience, much like the cat.

@ThinWomansBrain

YABU for shutting your cat outside.
You think it's OK for the cat to be outside all the time? Close off the toilet, use the garden.
Get your cat rehomed instead of mistreating it.

This. ^

@Robin233

And my cats always went out at night - all night - in all weathers. And came in in the morning for breakfast and then slept in 'their' chair in the living room all day.

Weren't LOCKED OUT though were they? Hmm Beyond cruel.

@Daisydu Stop minimising your disdain for your cat. You never mentioned only an hour or two when you first talked about shutting him outside. You also called him annoying, and said you want to rehome him, but your DH won't have it. At least HE cares for the poor cat. Your disliking for him is very clear.

And the poster commenting about people 'pearl clutching' about the mistreatment of the cat can do one. If caring about the bad treatment of an animal makes me a 'pearl clutcher' then so be it! Better than not caring about a PET being booted out in the cold because they are 'annoying.'

AgnesX · 18/03/2023 14:26

Nine people and only one toilet? Bloody hell! If you dislike it that much can you not change the location. You really need an extra loo.

Wow. Sad Your posts just get worse. Poor cat. Sad

OhmygodDont · 18/03/2023 14:27

The cat goes out because other wise it steals people food. It’s honestly not a big deal or mistreatment ffs.

Would you rather the cat steals the kids food that may contain stuff that’s not actually good for them.

OhmygodDont · 18/03/2023 14:27

As I’ve just had to kick fat cat off my dining table actually for stealing left over eggs and cheese ffs. Fucking cats 😂

Aposterhasnoname · 18/03/2023 14:32

Open the window and get some chicken wire over it to keep the cat out. If it’s cold it’ll put people off using it, certainly for any length of time so win win.

Yep this cat eats everything. He jumps on the table and eats off the kids plates, onto the toddlers Highchair.. he’s an actual pain in my ass but I’m the only one in the house that wouldn’t want to keep him so he’s definitely loved, just not by me!

Yesterday I was seriously considering making a sign for dh - Don't do a poo in the downstairs loo!

I’m definitely not minimising lol, I don’t like the cat, shock horror I don’t. But everyone else in my house likes him. He kills all kinds of birds and rodents too and likes to bring them in the house, I guess that’s not an acceptable reason to leave him outside either? I’ll let him in to pop it on the dining room table where the kids eat. And why would I mention an hour or 2 in my op?! It wasn’t actually relevant. I never said he’s put out all the time you made that up yourself 🙄 you actually made it up.

Yeah I'm not sure why everyone has leapt on the cat issue. It's not the Antarctic and cats have plenty of fur. They can live outside quite happily.

BMW6 · 18/03/2023 15:11

I couldn't be without my downstairs loo (in utility room next to kitchen).

I've reached the age where when I need to Go, it means NOW. I wouldn't make it to the upstairs loo in time........

Oust is your friend here OP. Neutralise the smells, don't mask with another. You can get it in a solid block I believe as little kids can't use sprays.

Inject · 18/03/2023 15:36

Toilets near the kitchen and ensuites are disgusting I agree - animals don't do their business near where they sleep and eat and we are meant to be the higher species! However, it's normal these days. In the old days they used to be outside which is much better.

Birthdaygirl1210 · 18/03/2023 15:36

All you need to do is make sure the children don’t use it if they can’t be trusted not to poo in it, madness to not use it for guests or yourself.
my main concern is your cat I’m afraid , you have confirmed you dislike him and would rehome him . His behaviour seems odd ( I’ve had many cats over the years ) is he neutered as this makes a difference to bad behaviour and he seems hungry if constantly stealing food , is he regularly wormed and have flea treatment?

he should have access at all times to his home for warmth and safety.

To the cat owners that have commented that they leave their cats out all night this is not nice and I’ve no idea how you can get in your nice warm bed and not care where your pet is all night .

premicrois · 18/03/2023 15:37

All you need to do is make sure the children don’t use it if they can’t be trusted not to poo in it,

There are 7 children. They should be allowed to poo in the second toilet if they need to. It's weird to be quite so controlling of someone's toilet needs.

Inject · 18/03/2023 15:38

Rent a better house. Also, block it off and hire an outside loo.

If only it was that easy to rent a different house .
