Woke up with a tickly throat, I've never had covid but my dad is positive so I tested. positive. I'm due at work soon and it's important. But I work with someone who is currently 20 weeks pregnant.
It would be wrong to still go wouldn't it? Or will it be ok if I wear a mask?

YABU stay home

Zuyi · 17/03/2023 06:30

Of course stay home!

PrincessToad · 17/03/2023 06:30

You need to stay at home. Please don't put the pregnant lady at risk.

GoodChat · 17/03/2023 06:31

This isn't even a question. Do not go.

historygeek · 17/03/2023 06:32

Why test if you are not going to stay at home?!

FrozenTodger · 17/03/2023 06:32

My colleague came in with Covid, passing it off as a cold. I caught it, and was extremely fucked off and upset. And tbh scared- I had at least a year of brain fog and have ongoing periods of fatigue after getting it the first time (pre vaccines). Don't do it if you can avoid it please.

BeeBB · 17/03/2023 06:33

Don’t go in and spread it to her and others who may have a sick or vulnerable relative at home.

discobrain · 17/03/2023 06:33

You have to ask?! Stay at home!

MintJulia · 17/03/2023 06:37

After three years of people being extremely ill or dying, you STILL don't know the answer....

Stay at home.

ThePoshUns · 17/03/2023 06:45

Ffs don't be so selfish. Stay at home.

youshouldnthaveasked · 17/03/2023 06:48

I agree with have to live with it now, can you stay away from your colleague? Can you do the job from home?

red78hot · 17/03/2023 06:48

Fgs stay home, I had covid before pregnancy and it was just a fever for a couple of days.
When I was 26wk pregnant someone at work, visibly very ill with a "cold" ( she wouldn't test) came in and passed it to me. It floored me and I was off work for a week , mainly laid on the sofa too ill to move.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/03/2023 06:49

Don't go in!

I got Covid in early Feb. The chain of infection that I am aware of is 12 people, across the N of England including an 80 year old cancer patient who tested positive for 3 weeks and then spent a further 2 weeks in bed with a temperature so high she was hallucinating, and a child (6 ish) who was hospitalised. The 80 year old was my mum- I'd got to the point of thinking about where I was going to scatter her ashes.

Covid can feel like a cold but it can be an absolute kicker - and you can't tell how it will affect you. I hadn't had time off for sickness for over a decade, I'm fit ish and only just over 50 - Covid put me in bed for 4 days.

Pleaee don't go anywhere near immunosuppressed people, including your pregnant colleague.

FiveShelties · 17/03/2023 06:50

Surely it is more important that your pregnant colleague stays well.

Bananabreadandcupofcoffeethanks · 17/03/2023 06:52

How long are people taking to get sick after exposure to covid now, does anyone know? My colleague has gone down with it and we were last together on Tuesday when he was visibly unwell...

OP I definitely don't think you should go!

coffeewithmilk · 17/03/2023 06:54

My friend caught covid from someone when she was pregnant and became very very unwell and her baby had to be delivered a lot earlier than planned

I would absolutely fucking hate you if you were my colleague and thought putting me, a pregnant woman at risk was ok because you had some work to do.

Please stay at home

Bella37 · 17/03/2023 06:56

It’s sad if your going to loose money by not going in these difficult times but I had covid and it absolutely floored me and took weeks to recover from, I would totally not go in to work if I was you and I hope you recover soon.

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/03/2023 06:56

Stay at home.

ShimmeringShirts · 17/03/2023 06:59

The guidelines are still stay home if you have physical symptoms is it not?

rainbowsunicorns · 17/03/2023 06:59

Yeah I'm probably going to lose over £200. I've said I won't be in today. Beside the obvious of not wanting to pass it on I'm feeling worse as the morning is going on. Thanks everyone xx

FiftyNotNifty · 17/03/2023 07:00

I stayed off when I had covid recently and it went down like a lead balloon as currently our guidelines are that you should be in unless you are too ill to do so.

Malbecormerlot · 17/03/2023 07:00

Depends how you feel and what your company policy is tbh. My work asks you to stay off for 5 days (but doesn't pay you) my dh is if your well enough to work you go in.
No rules over isolating now, if you can afford to think of others please do but if it is going to cause hardship losing money and your able I'd go to work but try and keep my distance.

Lefteyetwitch · 17/03/2023 07:01

I wouldn't lose that much money if I was able to go in. Not in this economy.

Wrongsideofpennines · 17/03/2023 07:02

Stay at home. What's the point in testing if you're not going to even bother.

People are still getting it and it's still costing lives. I know someone recently who had to delay their chemo because they had it. What if there is another colleague who has an immunosuppressed partner or relative they care for and they end up passing it on. How could you even cope with knowing you could have avoided that.

Fromage · 17/03/2023 07:02

Please don't go to work. Please. Even with a mask. You might not feel too ill, you might feel well enough to work but that's not the point.

We could all tell you devasting stories about what covid has done to us and people we know - but you know this. And you could be one of those people, there's no way of knowing, I hope you're one of the lucky ones.

Please stay home until you are no longer infectious.

I hope you and your dad get well soon.
