Going to work with covid..

Woke up with a tickly throat, I've never had covid but my dad is positive so I tested. positive. I'm due at work soon and it's important. But I work with someone who is currently 20 weeks pregnant.
It would be wrong to still go wouldn't it? Or will it be ok if I wear a mask?

@x2boys you do realise that it's better to have a skint month than contribute to someone else's ill health or death, right?

Hochjochhospiz · 17/03/2023 09:18

Stay at home.
And as others have said, what on earth is the point of testing and then ignoring the result.

x2boys · 17/03/2023 09:14

So you expect people to put their families wells being in jeopardy ?we are three years into.transgenic now ,not everybody has savings and understanding emp!over,s if they did in sure they would be delighted to.stay at home .

Over causing significant physical harm or even death to others yes absolutely I do. I'm guessing nobody you know died from covid or has long covid as I feel you would feel very different.

flutterbyebaby · 17/03/2023 09:24

My sons work told them not to bother testing and still go in, bloody ridiculous

gogohmm · 17/03/2023 09:25

But people here remember it drs depend on your employer. Dsd was told you come in or no pay, she ignored them as stayed off for 3 days, they sacked her because she should not have stayed off (dr wouldn't give a sick note as under a week). She had only been there 2 months, staff were coughing and sneezing all the time.

Not everyone has the luxury of being able to stay at home and I don't judge those who can't afford to be sick

SavBlancTonight · 17/03/2023 09:30

I see you haven't gone in, good. But just to say I'm horrified you even thought about it. I will never understand why people go into work when they are harbouring an infection that is contagious - covid or otherwise. I am self employed. I've had Covid twice in the last year and both times have completely flattened me. Luckily, I didn't lose work because I get paid for deliverables rather than time, but I have had to kill myself to catch up and have really struggled to recover as a result.

When you have covid, stay home please. Ditto if you have flu or some other disease. It might not impact you but it sure as hell impacts other people.

Beautiful3 · 17/03/2023 09:30

Well you guess wrong ,I also have a CEV,husband and now son ,but still some people can't afford to go sick they just can't that's the reality now.

Beautiful3 · 17/03/2023 09:31

People have already been vaccinated for it.

MrsH497 · 17/03/2023 09:31

I'm just going to say having had covid while in my 3rd trimester it wasn't pleasant. Also even "mild" coughs and colds to some can be very serious. My 1 year old catches every cough it turns to bronchiolitis and this time she got pneumonia as well and was admitted to hospital with incredibly low oxygen levels. Money is far less important than her health and life

But you didn't lose work and got paid that's the difference ,how hard is it for you to grasp.that many people won't get paid and may lose their jobs???
I'll never understand why people can't understand that not everybody is in the same fortunate position as themselves
🙄

But that's your situation of course health is the most important thing my oldest son has just spent three weeks in critical care
but he also needs a stable home to come home too not one that his parents risk losing he also needs his dad to be in employment ,so money is quite important.

All my months are skint ,you do realise some people are living month to month and barely keeping their heads above water???🙄

SavBlancTonight · 17/03/2023 09:41

@x2boys To be honest, I simplified it slightly. I did lose a bit as I had to pay other people to do the work and couldn't take on a few extra bits, but it wasn't a massive financial hit (it could have been though), which is why I didn't make a big deal about it. But it's been hell. both times.

I get it, if you're really going to lose money by going to work with Covid, then perhaps you have no choice and I can sympathise even if I'm not super wild about it.

But trust me, I know a LOT of people who work in nice reliable salaried jobs with sick pay who STILL choose to go into the office with Covid and it infuriates me.

MrsH497 · 17/03/2023 09:42

@x2boys the consultant has said the increase (dramatic) in respiratory illnesses which younger children and babies cannot deal with is directly related to covid/lockdowns/not being exposed as well so I do accept it's a double edged sword. I do hope your little one is ok

Of course money for a stable home is important but I personally wouldn't ever go to work knowingly with flu/covid/d&v anything highly transmissible it's just unfair and inconsiderate to others when you don't know how it may affect them. But that is my personal opinion and of course everyone is entitled to their own x

MrsH497 · 17/03/2023 09:44

@x2boys also just to add having covid while in 3rd trimester is or certainly was at the time (December 21) considered more risky. I felt awful (on top of Hypermesis) I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Tellyaddict123 · 17/03/2023 09:44

I lost my baby due to complications with covid…

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/03/2023 09:44

Of course you stay at home.

Even if your job was at risk?
because I'm sure most people don't want to.go.to.work with covid ,but if they risk losing their job ,what choice do.they have?

Dinoswearunderpants · 17/03/2023 09:46

What's your works sick policy? I would tell work you have covid and be led by them. If you feel unwell, then call in sick. If you are felling ok, and work are fine with you attending, then go in.

People go into work with cold and all sorts, we can't continue to put our lives on hold.

I lost my baby due to complications with covid…

I am so, so sorry Flowers

Namechanger355 · 17/03/2023 09:53

Pls dont

i got covid whilst pregnant in second trimester - luckily I was unwell but not floored. But I then needed an additional scan to check it hadn’t impacted my child’s birth weight - so honestly it was really horrible getting it at a time when I was already immunosuppressed and vulnerable

also I had every booster going - we all know the risks for pregnant women who aren’t vaccinated

Lollygaggle · 17/03/2023 09:53

I have long covid, caught covid a few months ago, spent time in hospital. Have had all the vaccinations .
I am/was self employed and have had to give up the job I loved . I have been living off my small savings and because I have savings and was self employed recieve only a small amount of help from the state.
Some of the damage I have is permanent and life changing.

Every time I isolated I lost a lot of money , being self employed , but having worked on test and trace I was all too aware of the deaths, illness and consequences of peoples selfish actions.

working in test and trace demonstrated both the best of people (90 year old on their own barely able to breath but "doesn't want to bother anyone" ) and the worst ( people refusing to isolate ,people asking can the law stop them still having their cleaners come to their home , people refusing to isolate because they have a holiday booked and feel fine etc) .

I worked in healthcare in possibly the highest risk profession and still people come to appointments knowing they are positive . Not only does it affect us but also our vulnerable relatives to whom we may pass, unknowingly, what we get at work. Many of my ex colleagues are carers for very vulnerable relatives.

I will never know who it was that passed me the virus that has so radically changed my and my families life. I just hope it wasn't someone who put their own interests above someone's life. Money is tight , try living off £76 a week ESA before putting money above people's health.

MrsH497 · 17/03/2023 09:54

@x2boys my job is very strict with sickness before we get disciplined probably more so than most. But no if I felt unwell I wouldn't go in and spread the germs knowingly.

There's a difference as well between knowingly spreading germs and bugs and being too unwell to go in.
If work want to discipline me they can, I would fight it, I personally as I said if I felt unwell with transmissible illnesses wouldn't knowingly go in.

I caught covid through people going to work with "a sore throat/headache/cough" when it was peak covid. They gave it to my husband and very quickly I caught it.
