buy my neighbour on the left side … the hoodie is next to mine but on the other street so the back of this house is parallel with my garden … so what are the planning rules here ?

would the council be able to tell me ?

I have no idea, but a diagram might help someone understand what you mean. Some councils do have someone you can discuss potential plans with, so check their website or call and ask.

Meant to say, we have just added a small, corner extension whilst renovating a derelict property. For building control/signs off etc, we chose to pay an independent company rather than go via the council. Many of the inspectors were ex- council, so knew the local rules, but were very relaxed and had more availability and flexibility on visits- something the council didn't.
