Every time we have a delivery they ring the doorbell two or three times then bang on the door as though they're being chased and their life depends on being let it.

We don't live in a castle, I'm not in the East wing and cannot hear the sodding doorbell.

WIBU to leave a passive aggressive sign to ask that people either knock or ring? (I won't obviously)

Our amazon man bangs the door so hard I always expect to hear next
'Police!! Open the door or I'm kicking it in'

My postman always does a coppers knock I answered one day with do you have a warrant or a parcel 😂 fortunately he has a sense of humour

I think it's really common these days for doorbells not to work. I've lived in so many places where they don't and lots of friends you know you have to phone them instead as the doorbell doesn't work. I think it's good that delivery people are not just gently giving the doorbell a cursory press then scurrying off

Whyx · 16/03/2023 19:51

We often put a sign up saying that the baby is sleeping so just leave parcel and go. Usually get a phone notification from Amazon etc when an item is delivered anyway.

Lilyandroses · 16/03/2023 19:51

I used to work in an office of a delivery company and I think the reason behind drivers doing this is because some people would say they couldn’t hear the door bell or they didn’t hear anyone knocking

But YANBU - it always gives me anxiety when I can hear someone ringing the bell multiple times and knocking as if my house is on fire, only for it to be the Amazon guy 🤣

Noseylittlemoo · 16/03/2023 20:01

When we first moved we didn't realise that unless the front door was locked with a key you could open it from outside and the postman /delivery drivers used to just open it and put the parcels inside! The door opens straight into the living room . We changed the lock straight away as I didn't want random people just walking into my house (even if they were delivering something for me). For a few weeks there was alot of rattling of the handle while they all discovered that coming in was not an option anymore.

I get this too, they ring the doorbell then hammer on the door with about a mili second in-between. I cannot move that fast, even if Chris Hemsworth was knocking at the door, I cannot time travel 😂.
You could try a note but I am not sure they would take the time to read it.

soupey1 · 16/03/2023 20:04

This really winds me up as well, either ring or knock but if you are going to knock don’t try to batter the door down!

gettingolderandgrumpier · 16/03/2023 20:14

I have a ring door bell but delivery people rarely use it . I don’t know do they not like being on camera and think if they don’t ring the bell we can’t see them well yes we can but the fact you don’t ring the bell I don’t know you are there .

I know this is light-hearted but they probably have to wait ages inbetween and get sick of if it

Just in general, sure for us we could be doing anything so we can't instantly be there but I can see why for them it would get annoying

I would have some jokes to say if it happened though

They used to wait for me to answer and keep knocking, but covid seemed to end that for good and now they knock, leave the parcel in the porch and dash off, which is quicker for them and i prefer. I don't have a doorbell so just knocking
