To think the Tories are clever?

They are introducing a massive pension tax cuts for their rich mates in the city, and selling it by claiming that it might also persuade a few rich NHS consultants to delay their retirement to their second homes in France for a couple of years.
And who is paying for this? Why you & me, of course, because our basic rate & higher rate tax allowances are being frozen until 2028. This is actually a massive income tax increase for ordinary working people, of course. And the media have fallen for their spin.
That’s smart politics…

I have no idea whether or not they're clever but they know what a woman is, which is more than can be said for Labour, the Lib Dems or the Greens. And that's a pretty low bar.

Yes, they certainly do know what a woman is when they are punching them in the face.

roarfeckingroarr · 16/03/2023 20:17

Allowing people to save more of the money they earn for their pensions is not the same as taking money away from other people.

Inthedarkagain · 16/03/2023 20:21

Not clever, just cuntish.

They need to know what a woman is, in order to fuck women over the way they do.

Allmyghosts · 16/03/2023 20:23

The tories are nothing if not machiavellian. I could never vote for them, I'd be a turkey voting for Christmas. Tbh same with Labour ATM. I will apply for a voting pass thing just to spoil my vote, I'm only going to do that because I know the tories want me disenfranchised and defeated, fuck the smug cunts.

First reply. That must be the quickest they know what a women is yet.

Allmyghosts · 16/03/2023 20:29

My own mother was a Thatcher fan, a wc parent of 5 girls with an unwavering work ethic who admired her no turning back shit. I wonder what she would think these days.

I know the trans issue is important but actually it's not an excuse to screw us all over. The Tories don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves.

Oh but they know what a women is. Don't be so gullible.

This

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2023 20:31

StepHigh · 16/03/2023 19:54

Exactly this. People on very high incomes can only put £10k a year into a pension from April (up from £4k).

NHS consultants tend to have large pensions because of the NHS pension scheme, which means they’re not super-high earners (still high though, obviously) but have very high employer pension contributions.

This makes sense. It’s good they get the reward but it does highlight how good the pension is overall.

Allmyghosts · 16/03/2023 20:34

Does anyone on earth actually begrudge consultants earning shit tons tho? I mean that's a steep hill to climb, surely they should be adequately recompensed.

Not only do the Tories know what a woman is, they got Brexit done, I could never vote for But Jeremy Corbyn, you know Keir had a Beer too and did Sue Gray investigate him, of course not because she was always working for the Labour party, and of course the Tories are taking control of our borders by paying the French 1/2 a billion pounds and telling asylum seekers they are very naughty and illegal.
I will definetely be voting for them.

MsJinks · 16/03/2023 20:41

The only reason Tories ‘know what a woman is’ is to make sure they don’t hand out any more equality type rights anywhere - they’ve got a tough enough job ahead removing the rights folk already have without making that pile even bigger.

No and I’d add that building up private practice is good too. It’s a hard slog, competitive and the reward is deserved.

Nellodee · 16/03/2023 20:42

I don’t know how clever they are, but they certainly think us peasants are fucking stupid.

ShandaLear · 16/03/2023 20:43

LOL NO. Have you seen the state of the country? It’s a clusterfucking mess.

mumda · 16/03/2023 20:44

Either it's only the mega rich and we pay doctors too much .. or it's not just the mega rich?

bubbles2023 · 16/03/2023 20:46

For the doctor issue alone I'm happy with the increase in pension contributions cap. I don't care what anyone else has on their pension.

latetothefisting · 16/03/2023 21:21

I doubt I will ever come anywhere near the previous pension tax threshold but tbh I can't think that getting rid of it is a terrible thing to do. If someone earns enough to reach it they will likely already have been higher rate tax payers (as you'd struggle to accrue £1million in pension as a basic rate taxpayer) and will still be taxed on the pension, either when they spend it during their retirement (as VAT) or in inheritance tax when they pass it on to their kids.

Apart from which saving into a private pension is a financially responsible thing to do compared to expecting the government to fund your old age so people shouldn't be penalised for it. So taxing them again when they will have already paid in more than most to the economy is a bit unfair.

Freezing the basic rate and higher rate allowance is shit though

smileladiesplease · 16/03/2023 23:59

Nope hopeless.

Can't vote Labour as mysogynistic

Who to vote for

GettingThereCharleyBear · 17/03/2023 00:01

They don't give a fuck if those women and their children freeze and starve though.

Wontbringlulu · 17/03/2023 02:03

Pythonhyphen · 16/03/2023 19:35

Consultants leaving is a huge issue for a workforce already suffering with huge shortages. Personally I don't care if it means x person will also benefit if it means we might retain these much needed staff for a bit longer. To add these 'mega rich' HCPs would be even richer abroad, pension is something that makes staying in this country even a little bit appealing in the shit show that is the NHS and their real term pay cuts year on year.

Exactly.

When I worked for the NHS I lost a third of my salary every month in stoppages - NI, tax, superannuation.
Keeping these people in work puts more into the economy and when they finally retire they will be contributing to the economy again.

The "second homes in France" argument is spurious.

You still have to pay tax on UK income to HMRC when living abroad.

If people choose to move abroad to live when they retire, they will pay Capital Gains Tax when they sell the UK home. This stands at 28% at present.

If they have a second property in France and decide to sell it and stay in UK they will pay CGT into the French economy. That rate is 19%.

So I doubt many people will be rushing to buy a French chateau any time soon.🙂

Emotionalstorm · 17/03/2023 02:08

I don't care about the tax reliefs that they're giving to their mates. I don't think it's material in the scheme of things. At least the Tories can tell what a woman is and are the only party we can trust to protect women's rights.
