Tummy troubles - sorry if TMI

Not looking for a diagnosis, just wondering if anyone has had similar symptoms. Had a phone consult with GP who helpfully suggested IBS 🙄

About a week or so ago I had a horrible gripey gnawing pain in my stomach. Felt like it could be acid and actually one omeprazole did help it a lot. But before taking that there was waves of pain and I also felt very very sick.

Since then I've had a lot of bloating lower down in my bowels and also (sorry tmi) the most disgusting sulphur farts. I feel like I'm constantly gassy and it's vile.

I had a clear colonoscopy about 4 years ago because I was having a bit of blood from my bum (aren't I a delight) but that was put down to piles that I've had since childbirth. I think due to the recent ish colonoscopy and my age (mid 30s) the doctors don't think it can be anything serious but diverticulitis runs in my family and I just feel grotty a lot of the time lately.

I don't have the best diet. Caffeine, processed food, lots of white carbs. But I've never had these symptoms before. Bowel habits are irregular. I can go days without anything and then one day where I'm on the toilet loads.

Does this just sound like general IBS or could it be more? Could stomach acid create issues in the bowel too?

Did it start suddenly last week? Because my toddler started with awful rotten egg smelling wind last weekend which progressed into 24 hours of diarrhoea, then no poo at all for a few days, couple of days of normal poo and then the diarrhoea cake back. I think it's a bug that's going round.

@BoatsAndHoes yeah the painful acid/gnawing stomach pain started last week and since then I've just felt so grotty with bloating and wind. No diarrhoea as such but I'm finding that on the days I go, I go about 4 times. Then nothing for a few days then the same again.

Was a 2 week bug I think.

I've had similar with proper full blown flu symptoms too. Stomach still isn't right although improving in as much as I don't feel sick now. Properly knocked me for six.

This isn't advice to follow instead of going to the doctors etc.. but look into a FODMAP diet for IBS and see if it helps.

I've had that many issues with my stomach over the years that I no longer really recognise what's a temporary bug and what's an actual condition. I've also got quite severe anxiety that affects my gut badly too. I thought after I had a clear colonoscopy I would be reassured but that was 4 nearly 5 years ago and I just keep worrying something might be up. Doctors aren't interested they just say IBS.

Not been off the loo this morning but feel a bit better now so hopefully it is a bug and it's just working it's way through.
