AIBU to ask, is there a generally acceptable time to call someone at home? I am rubbish at texting and never want to interrupt people in their busy lives, is there a generally acceptable time to call someone in the evening? Like an ‘open to callers’ type time?

It's not really about a good time to call across the board, everyone is different.

You may not like messaging, but lots of people don't like phone calls.

Is it something difficult/urgent/emotional, that requires a call?

I'd always prefer being asked when is a good time to call, as I likely wouldn't answer otherwise.

In the evening if I'm eating dinner/having a bath/watching a film I wouldn't answer the phone in the middle of it unless it was my mum in which case I'd know it was urgent as she rarely calls and prefers to text.
