To ask people to READ THE FULL THREAD!!

Lackersknackers · 15/03/2023 12:58

It’s driving me bonkers today how many people are posting without actually having read the opening post and then subsequent follow up posts before they then post something which is either clearly in the opening post or has been dealt with by the original poster later.

If everyone read the ironing posts and follow ups BEFORE posting it would save so much time and some posters would feel less attacked when they’re asking for help!

Apologies but it’s driving me barmy!

Who has time to read the whole thread?

That is why you can select to view just the OP's posts. Why not do that? It gives you a very good idea what has actually been said and where the thread is going. Then you are less likely to make yourself look like a twonk.

smellyflowers · 15/03/2023 13:38

Its not our fault the OP writes one thing in the opening post then later posts something that completely changes it

BlackeyedSusan · 15/03/2023 13:38

Having taken the piss a bit, I agree read the ops posts at least.

What annoys me is when someone makes a mistake (misses the age of a kid in the op)gets corrected, apologises for being a numpty, then there follows 50 posts telling that poster they should have read the thread properly!

LosingMyPancakes · 15/03/2023 13:39

BlackeyedSusan · 15/03/2023 13:32

Because nobody else on a full thread would have thought of it before me, such an original idea...

This is my biggest frustration, people repeating the same question or comment over and over and over AND OVER again. Multiple pages of repeats and very little conversation or useful advice.

FunnysInLaJardin · 15/03/2023 13:39

I haven't RTFT, but YABU

Ironing?

If only people READ their thread before posting!

LostAtTheCrossRoad · 15/03/2023 13:40

YANBU but it's never going to change 🤷🏻‍♀️

Agreed especially when they post updates while I'm still writing my reply to the original post!

Very good point! I stand chastised

mydogisthebest · 15/03/2023 13:44

It drives me mad. I think if you are going to comment then it is rude not to have at least read all the OP's post.

Ideally you would read the whole thread. If you don't have time then don't post.

Also read the OP@s posts properly

jays · 15/03/2023 13:45

Good grief, I see the bottom feeders are out in force today.

This happens all the time then you can’t delete the bastard and it’s sitting there all superseded and redundant. Also annoying when you’ve got a wee joke and someone else gets in while you’re typing, grrrrng

I agree that people should read at least the OP's posts before replying (sometimes threads are just too long to read), but i agree with the above poster too. Updates are fine, but sometimes the OP leaves out vital information in the first post and sends everyone in the wrong direction! Really, if you're opening a thread, double check that you've given all the necessary information.

Couldn’t agree more but people love a bit of performative misunderstanding on here, means they get to at least attempt pull focus into themselves, sadly that’s what it’s all about for a subsection of posters now.

It's especially annoying when there's a poll on it as it's then a useless poll

Nooyoiknooyoik · 15/03/2023 13:50

What ironing posts? I don’t understand.

slashlover · 15/03/2023 13:53

Or at least read the last page or two of replies. There have been threads where the OP has posted about whether to go to A&E where people still reply to that but the thread has moved on to the OP finding out something serious is going on.

Although, I'm more annoyed when the OP makes a typo and everyone decides to ignore their question and instead make shit puns.

RiktheButler · 15/03/2023 13:55

I'm guessing you've been on the Sainsburys thread @Lackersknackers - that's probably the hardest thread I've ever seen!

Abitofalark · 15/03/2023 13:56

You are driven to rage and SHOUTING about people not reading but even if they read your opening post they could be driven to fury by your failure to explain what you mean by ironing posts (I AM FUMING!) But failing to explain is not exactly unusual on here.

People are as they are. What can be done?
SOMETHING MUST BE DONE! I thunder. Has anybody heard? Or heeded? I doubt it.

No, but given how easy it is to use the "see all" function for OP's posts, it is your fault if you decide to comment without looking at what you're commenting on.

strawberry2017 · 15/03/2023 14:04

Tbh I don't always read the full thread- some of them are ridiculously long however I do try to make sure I read all the OP's posts so I know what they are saying!

Rosula · 15/03/2023 14:27

I've been going through the window cleaner thread with ever-rising levels of astonishment at the number of people who blatantly haven't read even the opening post, let alone the OP's subsequent posts; or, if they have, are totally lacking in basic comprehension skills. Interestingly, it's almost invariably the people who blatantly only come onto the thread with one agenda, namely to find a reason to beat up OP, who have the worst basic comprehension skills. And they NEVER have the grace to apologise when they've been shown up as making wild accusations based on a totally ludicrous interpretation of what has been going on.

Not everyone has the time to read very long OP's and subsequent comments.

But they have time to then comment something which might be completely useless/out of date/which as been said a million times already?
